Situated right next to the State Opera in Vienna, the Heidi Horten Collection is a private museum that reflects Horten's passion for great art on an international scale. Over decades, she has amassed an impressive selection of several hundred paintings, sculptures, and graphic works that provide an in-depth overview of how art has developed in the 20th and 21st centuries. The collection includes artists such as Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Joan Miró, Max Pechstein, Carl Hofer, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Paul Klee, René Magritte, Fernand Léger, Niki de Saint Phalle, Egon Schiele, Lucio Fontana, Jean Dubuffet, Lucian Freud, Francis Bacon, Yves Klein, and Georg Baselitz. Exhibitions Information We <3 - Masterpieces from the Heidi Horten Collection Exhibition period: : 2023-11-24 ~ 2024-08-25 The exhibition features a selection of high-caliber artworks from the Heidi Horten Collection, curated in three thematic categories that represent the collection's principal content areas: Expressionism, especially in its German variant; art from the 1960s and 1970s, with a specific emphasis on U.S., Italian, and German positions and painting and sculpture in the field of tension between figuration and abstraction. Visitors of the museum will play a significant role in the exhibition concept. They will have the opportunity to select around twenty artworks from the collection, either on-site or through social media, which will then then be permanently displayed in a special area of the museum. We <3 is inherently linked to the WOW! exhibition that took place in 2018. Heidi Goëss-Horten decided to build a museum to permanently house the collection, to making it accessible to a broader audience and creating an art experience for anyone to enjoy.
