Easy to get to from the airport, we just hopped on the #6 city bus, and there is a bus stop right in front of the property. City busses are clean, and cheap, I think it was about 5€ or so, and takes about 35 mins. Check in was really smooth. The place is spotless, customer service is very good, they upgraded us to a small bungalow right next to the beach. We were taken by golf cart which was nice. Accommodation was clean, and new, nice bed, decent bathroom, it's a little small, but has a shower, no tub. Really nice deck area to have coffee and listen to the ocean. The room has a small fridge, a safe, decent closet space, a small couch, queen sized bed, large TV, and great wifi. Actually wifi was available everywhere on site. We opted for the breakfast package, which was actually very nice. Buffet style, but literally dozens of options. Fresh fruits, breads, cheeses, yogurts, cereals, many many hot dishes, you will not go hungry. We also had one formal sit down fancy dinner which was also very nice. We didn't really use any of the on-site facilities, but we did hang out at the pool for a few hours one day. Even though it seems like there was a lot of people there were still a lot of loungers available. Pool looked really nice, only a few people used it. Beach area also has loungers and umbrella for free use. Really nice sandy and shallow beach, great for kids, but it does get windy, so keep that in mind. Impressive amount of smokers manage to keep a steady supply of cigarette butts in the sand at all beaches we visited. Kind of gross, but this seems like a European thing? Can't say we have seen this in other places. I would easily reco.mend this place due to the fact that it was really clean, food was nice, easy to get to, lots of off site dining, gift shopping, bakeries, grocery stores, and car rental places within a 10 minute walk.
Malena Hotel & Suites - Adults Only by Omilos Hotels

Stayed here for 7 days in June 2024, as part of a Jet2 UK package. We had a suite with private pool. The suite was well appointed, with a comfortable continental/double bed, two chaise longue, two desks, three chairs and an outdoor daybed. The room also included two large screen televisions, two air-con units, a fridge, nespresso machine, safe, and a 15ft-ish infinity pool. The room was clean, the furniture in good condition and the air-con very good. The pool was slightly exposed to the hotel driveway but was at a height so bathers weren't overlooked. The safe had no key (which wasn't needed) and the apartment above had a jacuzzi above our bedroom so there was some noise from the water-pump cycling 24-hours a day, otherwise the room was very good. In our experience, the room matched the pictures we had seen before booking. The hotel complex was a pleasant mix of apartments set in a garden, surrounding a communal pool and bar/restaurant area. It was very quiet when we visited and there were always tables and sun loungers available. As advertised, the hotel is adults-only, and when we visited, seemed to be generally populated by adult couples of all ages. We booked on a half-board basis and had breakfast and dinner on several occasions. Breakfast was a continental-style buffet, with occasional Greek additions (loukoumades etc), and was fair to good quality. The coffee machine was not very good so we stuck to using the nespresso machine in our room. Dinner was a five course themed menu, each night based on a region of Greece. This was impressive for a small hotel and we particularly enjoyed the salads. The service at the hotel however, was a bit off. It felt like it was an entirely new team and that they were finding their feet. There was no order to dinner service, with different tables being served at different times and some dishes arriving twice. Drinks taking 15 minutes to arrive, cutlery not being changed after each course (indeed, we were told ”you keep your fork”, after finishing our starters) and a strange, nervous energy noticed amongst the staff. Not a massive problem, but very weird nonetheless, particulalry as the hotel was so quiet. Other reviewers have mentioned the location. The hotel is on a busy road, across the street from a coffee shop and very close to a large dual-carriageway, so there is significant outside noise. There is a sports stadium (and when we visited, a circus), an excellent supermarket, a chemist and a decent beach nearby. However, Amoudara is not a resort area, it is a mixed residential/commerical area and your expectations should take that into account. The hotel is surrounded by scrubland with sidewalks etc in poor condition and there are limited restaurants & attractions nearby. Overall, a decent hotel with some quirks, possibly our experience was due to the early season and new staff bedding in. I would strongly recommend pre-arranging private transfers and/or a hire car if you choose to stay here.

For the price, this is a fantastic hotel. Right on the water with beautiful views, located near the highway and close to (but not in) Heraklion. Renovated recently so everything is still in good condition. The food at the restaurant was very good and also the most affordable of our entire trip in Greece. Seriously, our whole dinner was the same price as coffee and croissants at the airport. The only downside is that parking was overcrowded on the weekend when all the locals came to the beach. Given the low prices, I highly highly recommend getting an ocean-view room. Ask for the third or fourth floor because our second story view partially looked out into the restaurant.
Out of the Blue Resort & Spa

I spent a week at the Out of the Blue Resort and Spa in August with my partner. I want to be fair and honest with my review. Pros: Incredibly friendly and hard working staff overall Lovely setting and beautiful grounds Good Air Conditioning in the bedroom Plentiful water supplied for your room, also juice and pepsi Cons; The hotel has clearly seen better days. The maintenance and the upkeep of fixtures and fittings is very poor and certainly not what you would expect at a reputed 5 star resort. Cleaning - very hit and miss. One day I returned to my ”cleaned” room where my duvet had been thrown over the bed, and our pillows still showed our head imprint from the night before. Bathrooms given a cursory clean but stains on the furniture, shower incrusted with calcium deposits which made it difficult to turn on. Food: The buffet is a bun fight so do not expect a quiet relaxing environment. The food is plentiful but with very little flavour and general bland. Whilst I understand its difficult to cater for all tastes.... it feels like flavour is the price paid. A La Carte: These restaurants you have to pre book but availability is difficult. We arrived late at night and downloaded the hotel app to book. One restaurant was instantly unavailable for our whole stay. We were able to book to others on our penultimate and our last nights. Sadly again the food was bland and most of the elements you could see in the buffet restaurant. The one saving grace for dining in these is that they are calm and relaxed. The beach: The hotel has a private beach which is lovely - but we only got to enjoy it once. This is because from 7am all the beds are taken by guest towels. There are signs on the beach and by the pools that these cannot be reserved and yet it happened everyday. As a guest you dont want the anxiety of trying to move towels and then dealing with disgruntled guests. Not conducive to a relaxing holiday. The staff should enforce the no reserving policy, however they dont. There are ”life guards” sitting around the pools and on the beach that could do this rather than chatting to other staff or on their phones all day. Overall I would give this experience a poor 3 star experience rather than the 5 star I was expecting when I booked. This was my third visit to Crete and sadly it was the poorest experience. Again I want to reiterate that overall the staff are very friendly and hard working. However I would not return to this resort again.

The hotel is spotless, very clean. Rooms are serviced every day. The food is a bit hit and miss although there is always something to eat. Loads of choice. I can be fussy so that’s me, definitely always something good to eat. Reception staff were very welcoming and helpful. The hotel could definitely do more evening entertainment just to break up the evenings. The pool bar area for me is the gem in the crown. Very friendly staff. Eleni and Atalanta are super friendly and do the hotel a fantastic service. Would be nice if all the other staff were as friendly and welcoming as the pool bar staff. Overall great place to stay, the beach is a five minute walk and there are loungers for free if you buy a drink. Lotos beach bar All in all a great holiday and I would come back.

A wonderful stay with the most helpful staff . The rooms are modern and comfortable. The bed was so comfortable. Tea, coffee and nespresso machine in the room , a small fridge and safe and plates and cutlery provided in the room. Can even cook on the portable cook top. Not that you need to , a few minutes walk away is the supermarket and a few tavernas . You can also use the facilities from the sister hotel Enorme Teatro like pool, bar and beach beds , umbrella sets . Parking is also available outside . Our helpful Staff Vasili and Chara were most friendly and took care of all our requirements. Also the location is convenient to bus stop if you don’t have a car. Heraklion is around a 20 min bus ride for 1.5 euro one way .
