Hotel dei Capitani is situated on the edge of Montalcino (only a 5 min walk from the centre) with spectacular views of the valley below. Rooms are quite small but provide wonderful views, a comfy bed and a well equipped bathroom. A good selection of cereals, pastries, etc were provided for breakfast on the terrace overlooking miles of Brunello vineyards below. There are some excellent restaurants in Montalcino so we didn't have dinner in the restaurant.

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights recently and had a great time. The rooms were clean yet rustic and ours had an outdoor terrace with a private seating area. Breakfast was supurb with a great selection and exceptional service. Unfortunately, the restaurant was advised to be closed permanently, which is a shame. The lounge was great and we did enjoy some post dinner wine outside under the stars. Service was exceptional. The sound at night is very tranquil with only the odd car going down the road in front of the hotel. The views from the hotel into the valley are exceptional during the daytime. This hotel does need a car though as the closest places to go for dinner are in Montalcino. While not more than a 5 min drive, it would be a lengthy walk with some steep elevations. Parking in Montalcino was easy so long as you don’t mind a short walk. Majority of public parking is outside of the city walls. I would highly recommend this cute boutique hotel. Great value, great service, and an overall great experience.

Actually an amazing property location with outstanding views, sensitive restoration and additions to an ancient castle. Sets up high 5 star expectations. The reality is a disappointing. The biggest problem is the on site food service for lunch, dinner and room service. The prices for mediocre cuisine and disappointing selections are extraordinary. I had dinner the first night with my wife and both ordered 1 course plus wine which resulted in a 300 euro bill. Room service prices are equally extraordinary. I had subsequent dinners at exquisite local little trattorias for 50 to 60 euros with great menus and service. The other real challenge is the hotel provides no transportation and transportation they arrange is also beyond extraordinarily expensive. We enjoyed the setting but the property is under resourced, too isolated with a poor food service.

Went here for a VIP tour. The tour start with a lunch in their taverna. The food was amazing. We had a full four course meal with a ”cheese ball” starter, pasta as prima and veal as secondi with icrecream for desert. We have a great sampling of the vines from Banfi with the meal and great service. After the meal we went on a tour of the Banfi winery and ended up with a tasting. Our guide Paul did a fantastic job. This is a major brunello provider that goes back to 15th century with beautiful views. We loved the experience.
