I stayed at this hotel for two nights and was very satisfied with everything. The room was spacious, the bedding was comfortable, and the environment was pleasant, truly giving a 'facing the sea, with spring blossoms' vibe. The only thing I was unhappy with was the salesperson at the gift shop next to the lobby on the first floor. I bought a bunch of fridge magnets, and after paying, I asked if they had a gift bag, even offering to pay for it. The Malaysian saleswoman wearing a headscarf suddenly yelled at me, meaning they don't provide gift bags and told me to get out quickly. She really yelled, which was a bit baffling and not a polite tone at all. She clearly wasn't friendly to Chinese people. One star for this attendant. Since the shop is inside the hotel, I consider it bad service. It instantly ruined my mood.

Had a wonderful stay at Hard Rock Hotel Penang! The facilities were excellent, and the service was great. All the staff were friendly and helpful, especially the housekeeping team. They were very attentive, always willing to help, and responded quickly whenever we needed assistance. The sea and pool views were absolutely beautiful and made our stay even more enjoyable. The kids had so much fun and truly enjoyed their time here. Overall, we had a fantastic experience and will definitely come back again! Highly recommended! 🤘🌊🏊♂️

The hotel's public areas are quite good, much better than Parkroyal. It felt very clean walking around inside, especially compared to the dusty streets outside, it was definitely a pleasant contrast. However, by the time I arrived to check in, it was already 3:40 PM. After completing the check-in process, the South Asian front desk attendant said there were no rooms available and I'd have to wait. When I asked how long, he couldn't give a clear answer, and when I asked if it could be done within half an hour, he still said he wasn't sure. I pointed out that the check-in time was 3 PM and not having a room was unreasonable. There was no apology or offer of compensation either. They just directed me to the lounge, where there were some small pastries and desserts (very limited selection), and they didn't even pour a glass of water. My flight was delayed by an hour, and then the Grab ride took another five or six hours, so I was extremely tired. Not being able to check in was really infuriating. While walking around the public area, I suddenly thought of contacting the platform's customer service. The customer service representative understood the situation and immediately helped resolve it. Less than two minutes after I returned to the lounge from contacting customer service, the front desk informed me that a room was available. Thank you, Trip.com customer service representative! Still, I'm quite speechless about the hotel's conduct. Moreover, when we entered, there was another pair of Chinese ladies waiting there, and when we left, it seemed they still hadn't been attended to. (I wonder if it's just a coincidence that only Chinese guests were made to wait, or if it was intentional.)

I had a really wonderful stay at this hotel. The room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, and everything was exactly as expected. The location was also very convenient, with plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. The staff were friendly, helpful, and always willing to assist whenever needed. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay here. The atmosphere was pleasant, the service was great, and I felt very comfortable throughout my stay. Excellent resort and service overall, but beware of the concierge's personal tours!: overall, our stay at DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Penang was top-notch. The rooms, amenities, location, and staff service were all A+ grade. Hilton maintains its high standards, and we were thoroughly enjoying our trip—until we interacted with the concierge service. Unfortunately, the concierge technically misled us into taking a personal/private trip. It ended up costing us a huge amount of extra money in damages/demurrage, which felt like a personal scam/cheating. It was completely unprofessional and left a very bitter taste on an otherwise perfect vacation. The Hilton management seriously needs to monitor and be extremely cautious about their concierge team's activities and recommendations. Guests should be very careful when taking tour advice or booking transport/trips directly through the concierge here. Aside from this concierge incident, everything else at the hotel was excellent. But because of this issue, I urge both future guests and management to stay vigilant.

The room has two bedrooms and one living room. The sofa in the living room can be used as a bed. It can accommodate up to 6 people. The landlord will inform you of the accommodation details by email, and you can call the housekeeper on the same day. She will arrange check-in and parking at the door, and take you to the room to introduce the details. A deposit of 100RM is required for each key and access card. You need to swipe the card to enter the building and enter and exit the beach. The security is very good. The room has complete tableware, and you can cook simple meals. There is also an oven. There is a washing machine, but no dryer. Summer clothes will dry in a short time. There are many hangers, and you should bring your own laundry detergent. There are no extra towels for the swimming pool and beach downstairs. The sand on the beach at the door is slightly rough. It will be finer and less crowded after passing the long embankment to the west. There are basically no shells to pick up on the beach. The night market along the street is very lively, and it is like an empty city during the day.

The location of By the Sea is fantastic. Situated right next to the beach, it also offers a well-equipped gym and a clean outdoor swimming pool, making it a great place to relax. The apartment we booked was spacious and had everything we needed for a comfortable self-catering stay. However, the first thing we noticed on entering was a strong smell of mould, which was also present inside many of the cupboards. We understand that the property is located right by the beach in a tropical climate, so some humidity is unavoidable, but this could have been improved with better housekeeping and more attention to freshness. There were also a few maintenance and housekeeping issues. The sofa bed in the living room was broken, and we had to wash some of the bedding ourselves. The sofa bed had simply been covered with a sheet rather than the cover being properly cleaned. The mop bucket and vacuum cleaner were also broken, but to the management’s credit, they replaced both promptly after we reported the issues. Overall, we felt we got good value for money. With some improvements to general housekeeping and routine maintenance, this would be an excellent place to stay. The superb beachfront location, spacious apartment and management mean we would still happily recommend By the Sea to anyone looking for a self-catering apartment in Batu Ferringhi.

This was my second stay at VELAMUNDI, and the experience was just as great. The bathroom was very clean, and the flush was powerful. The kitchen also had coffee, either freshly brewed or for making your own local specialty coffee. There are laundry facilities on the first floor. There was nothing particularly inconvenient during my stay. The room was still very clean, and the service was excellent. The host even recommended delicious restaurants and interesting places to visit nearby, and we got to eat at a beautiful sea-view restaurant! They even remembered to offer us some delicious chicken before we left, which we ate. I'm truly grateful! I will definitely choose VELAMUNDI again next time I visit!

We had a great stay here! The view was amazing, the apartment was clean and all the facilities were well-equipped, including an iron, microwave, water heater and more. We especially appreciated that they provided a qiblat direction and prayer mat for Muslim guest. The only minor concern was that the towels didn’t smell very fresh. Other than that, everything was perfect. We would definitely come back again!

5-star hotel, but unfortunately the service was far from 5-star. We arrived for check-in at around 3:30 PM, only to be told that our room was not ready and that we had to wait another 30 minutes. For a 5-star hotel, I would expect the room to be ready by the stated check-in time. The staff also did not properly explain or guide us regarding the location of the available facilities. More importantly, some staff members did not handle guests in a professional or attentive manner. Overall, the service and guest experience did not meet the standards I would expect from a 5-star hotel. There is definitely room for improvement, especially in staff professionalism, communication, and guest service.

I really love the room. The bed was very comfortable with the nice pillows. Duvet cover is lovely with the hotel detailing on them. Well done management. The bathroom is big with separate wet bathroom. Toilet came with bidet and automatic wash machine control system. Breakfast buffet was really good spread and kudos to the f&b team with their amazing hospitality and services. Special shoutout to the staff Hattame for his great hospitality and service. Good ambiance too. Rooftop pool was small but it’s clean and overlooking the airport. There’s a lifeguard and staff around. On the other hand i was very disappointed with the cleanliness at the coffee counter in the room. Total disaster for such a brand new hotel. The dust are so thick on the fridge and all over the coffee cabinet. So disappointing and disgusting. Housekeeping manager or management should check on their staff works. Kettle was not clean properly and there is a left over water in the kettle, obviously not clean from the previous guests. Totally unacceptable for so call 5* hotel. Front desk staff was not friendly and gave me a fake smile and I was not feeling welcome at all. One of the female staff wearing worn out shoes and making so much noise while she moving around the reception which i find so annoying and what a poor grooming and service standard for a hotel. She not even smile at me while I was there at the counter for the check in. Overall I was happy with the comfort of the room and parking area was very convenient for me. Hopefully the management take note of my feedback and hope for the improvement of my next visit otherwise will be my last visit. Thank you.

Stayed here again after my previous visit in 2024. There have been some improvements since then, especially the swimming pool, which has been upgraded and looks nice. However, the cleanliness of the pool water still needs improvement. From the surface it looks clean and blue, but underneath, the water and pool area look quite dirty. The room was good overall, but the pillow was quite hard for my liking. The air-conditioning is centralized, and the room was still quite warm even when I set it to high. The café is currently closed for renovation and has been moved/replaced with a temporary café on the 1st floor. Hopefully, the renovation will bring further improvements, and I’m looking forward to seeing the completed changes on my next visit. Overall, it was a decent stay, but there are still a few areas that could be improved, especially the pool cleanliness and air-conditioning.

Good value for money hotel. I used Grab for all my transportation, so convenience wasn't an issue, and transport in Ipoh is very affordable. The hotel and room were beautiful and quiet, which I really liked. The staff were very friendly and deserve praise. The USB and Type-C outlets here are a great feature, as hotels in Kuala Lumpur and Penang didn't have them, which was very inconvenient.

This is an old hotel, and it's my second time staying here. My first experience was okay, but this time it wasn't very good. As soon as I walked into the room, there was an indescribable smell. It smelled like someone had applied coconut oil to a sweaty body, a scent that made me uncomfortable. I originally thought about changing rooms, but then I figured it was only for one night, so I decided not to and just opened the window to air it out. Later, I found the source of the smell was coming from the chair. I covered the chair with a towel and waited for about 3 hours until the smell slowly dissipated before closing the window. I hope the hotel's housekeeping can pay more attention to this. I can tolerate artificial fragrances, but body odor is really unacceptable; it felt like there was a dead body in the room.

The room facilities were old and the soundproofing was poor. The gap under the door was quite large; after turning off the lights, the light coming through the door gap was bright enough to serve as a nightlight. The toilet in the room was faulty; it wouldn't stop flushing immediately and would automatically refill after emptying, which was a bit noisy. The location was decent, with plenty of food options and the night market not far away. The Chinese-American lady who checked me in provided excellent service.

I booked a deluxe twin room and was assigned to the 9th floor. I was able to check in as early as 1 PM upon arrival. Given the super convenient location for exploring and dining, the conditions across the board were quite acceptable. I didn't encounter the cleanliness and power outlet issues mentioned in many reviews—perhaps the rooms on the higher floors have been recently renovated. The view from the 12th-floor restaurant is simply stunning; the ambiance definitely outweighs the food.

A decent stay with the basic amenities provided. We booked both a twin room and a queen room, and the reception was kind enough to arrange both rooms on the same floor upon request. There was no housekeeping during our 2-night stay, but water and soap were provided when we asked. The hotel is currently undergoing major renovation, so guests have to access the hotel via the annex block, where the parking is located. This wasn’t a major issue, although you’ll need to switch between two lifts whenever entering or leaving the hotel. On the plus side, the location is convenient for getting to many of Ipoh’s major sightseeing spots, making it a practical choice if you’re mainly looking for a well-located place to stay.

Perfect hotel for a short stay. Comfortable, clean, and convenient, especially if you’re looking for a place to stay for a night and enjoy a fine dining experience without having to go far. Valet parking is available at RM20 per night, which is quite reasonable. Breakfast was decent and had a good variety. The hotel has two elevators, so there was hardly any waiting time. Overall, the room was comfortable and the whole stay felt pleasant and hassle-free. Definitely a good choice for a one-night stay, especially for a business trip or a quick getaway.

I stayed here for a solo 2-day, 1-night trip. I love the Bali vibe, and the moment I saw it on a travel site, I knew this was the place and booked it. The interior definitely exuded that Balinese atmosphere, which was lovely. What I particularly liked was the spacious bathtub. With cushions to support your back and a ceiling about 3 meters high, it was a very open and relaxing space where I could unwind. Also, after check-out, they held my bag for me, and while I was killing time, the reception staff offered me lemongrass water. I was so touched by their thoughtfulness. Thank you! On the other hand, there were a few disappointing points. There was a leak in the bathroom, poor TV connection, no conditioner in the bathroom, and no salt or pepper on the dining table during breakfast (I think it would be more efficient if they confirmed the room number with guests, then seated them, confirmed their order, and then prepared the food). The reception area was hot, and because it's outdoors, there were inevitably insects that sometimes landed on the food. Some of these issues were promptly addressed by the maintenance team, and they even prepared two types of breakfast for me. The location, being a bit away from the city center, was quiet and peaceful, which was nice.

My booking confirmation stated a 2 PM check-in, but when we arrived at the front desk, we were told the room wasn't ready and we'd have to wait until 3 PM. Fine, we waited until 3 PM, paid the RM 20 deposit, and went to the room, only to find it hadn't been cleaned yet 🫠. We informed the front desk, and they immediately arranged for a different room (the front desk staff were friendly to customers). The room we got had older facilities (but still functional). The power supply was a bit quirky; inserting the card didn't seem to make a difference (you had to manually flip a switch to tell if there was power or not 🥲). The light on the vanity mirror didn't work when turned on. (The hairdryer was cleverly hidden in a drawer!) 🤣 The TV reception wasn't strong; it was quite snowy and only had 2-3 channels (thankfully, 8TV was one of them). There was a window with a slight view of the outside, and the king-sized bed was very large (as we chose the king-size option). The sheets, pillows, and mattress softness were acceptable. The air conditioning was cold enough but a bit noisy. The mini-bar area was well-equipped with a kettle, two cups, tea bags, coffee, two bottles of mineral water, and a mini-fridge 👍, which was very convenient and great. The toilet and shower: It would be better if this could be separated into wet and dry areas, as the toilet and shower are right next to each other. When you shower, even with the curtain drawn, the water still flows to the area next to the toilet, leaving the entire floor wet. You have to be careful not to slip 💢. The drain had a slight odor, but the water pressure in both the shower and sink was good, with hot and cold water available, and a large mirror above the sink. The inconvenient part was that there was no shelf or holder for soap, shower gel, or shampoo in the shower area, so you had to walk to the sink to grab them 🫠. This definitely needs improvement. The room space: It's suitable for two people to move around, quite large and spacious, not cramped at all. Amenities provided were thoughtful: a mini-fridge, kettle, desk, wardrobe, shoe cabinet, hairdryer, and two trash cans (one in the bathroom and one in the room). Toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, and even a bag for dirty laundry were provided. Regarding cleanliness, I found it acceptable. I always bring my own disinfectant and disposable sheets because I'm paranoid about unclean beds (it gives me peace of mind). One more thing to note: if you have valuables, remember to keep them secure. Even though I didn't request cleaning, they came in to tidy up, change fresh towels, trash bags, sheets, and replenish mineral water. (Perhaps daily cleaning is included in their service; I'm not sure, as I stayed for three days). Parking: The hotel has its own private parking lot right in front of the hotel, but spaces are limited, first-come, first-served. If you go out for dinner or sightseeing and return too late, there won won't be many spots left. (I always made sure to return before 7 PM and usually only found 1-2 spots left) 😂
