Harbin Taiping International Airport is modern, spacious, and well-organised, offering a smooth arrival experience for Malaysian travellers visiting China’s famous Ice City. The moment you exit the terminal, the crisp, icy air is unmistakable—far colder than Malaysia’s tropical warmth, yet refreshing in its own unique way. Despite the language barrier many travellers expect in northern China, English signage is clearly displayed throughout the airport, making it easy to navigate even on your first visit.

After a long journey, all you want is a comfortable and straightforward trip into the city. No complicated processes, no confusion, and definitely no dragging heavy suitcases through crowded stations. Fortunately, getting from Harbin Taiping International Airport to Harbin city centre is uncomplicated and traveller-friendly. Whether you are visiting for the first time or returning for the Ice and Snow Festival, reliable transport options are readily available to ensure a smooth start to your winter adventure.

✈️ Airports in Harbin

Harbin serves as the gateway to the northeastern region of China and plays a vital role in connecting Heilongjiang Province with the rest of the country. The main airport for international and domestic travellers is Harbin Taiping International Airport (HRB).

Why Harbin’s Airport Matters

Harbin Taiping International Airport handles a significant number of passengers each year, especially during the winter peak when visitors arrive for the world-famous Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival. Prior to the pandemic, passenger traffic grew steadily as Harbin became more popular among international travellers.

The airport serves as an important hub for airlines such as China Southern Airlines, Air China, and Sichuan Airlines. Its strong network of domestic routes makes it easy for Malaysian travellers to connect through cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, or Shenzhen before continuing onward to Harbin.

Strategically located in Daoli District, the airport links Harbin with key cities across northeastern China. Its position supports regional development and provides smooth access for both business visitors and tourists. The airport is also well connected to the city via shuttle buses, taxis, private transfers, and ride-hailing services.

Harbin Taiping International Airport is continuously upgrading its facilities to support growing tourism demand. Travellers will find a clean, modern terminal equipped with automated check-in counters, efficient immigration processing, and convenient transportation links. Despite the extreme winter conditions outside, the terminal remains warm, comfortable, and traveller-friendly, ensuring a pleasant arrival experience for international visitors.

This hotel boasts an excellent location, right by the Songhua River. The front desk staff were incredibly warm and helpful, carrying our luggage to the room. They even upgraded us to a family room, which was much more spacious. We also received a complimentary afternoon tea and were allowed a late check-out. After checking out, we could still relax in the lobby lounge, which was a nice touch. The service here is truly thoughtful and human-centric. Highly recommend this hotel!

This hotel, over a century old, boasts a rich historical ambiance with its Tsarist Russian court design. The lobby is resplendent and dazzling, featuring crystal chandeliers, oil paintings, wine cabinets, and an ornate wrought-iron garden, all showcasing the luxury of the Russian aristocracy. I even donned a 19th-century outfit to experience what it felt like to be a Countess. The hotel service was impeccable. Upon check-in, someone immediately guided us on a tour and provided explanations, including a ride in the century-old elevator. Our luggage was delivered directly to our room, and they were incredibly accommodating, helping us take photos in the court costumes without any hesitation. When we checked out, they even brought our bags to the car – truly doorstep service, highly commendable! This is a highly recommended hotel that is well worth experiencing.

This is an old hotel with very cramped rooms, especially the bathroom, where two people can barely turn around when opening and closing the door. The bedding was nice though. Breakfast was plentiful, and the pickled cabbage buns were incredibly delicious! We all agreed it was the best breakfast among all the hotels we stayed at on this trip. The location is super convenient; turn left out of the hotel and walk three or four minutes to Shanghai Road Metro Station, making it easy to get to Zhongjie Street and Chinese Baroque. The only downside is that the facilities are quite old.

As the only hotel in Harbin that can truly be called a bit luxurious, it generally lives up to its reputation. The location, rooms, service, and amenities are all quite good. Bottled water is provided upon request, and the lotus decoration at the entrance is also very unique. The decor style is more simple and bright, a stark contrast to the Ritz-Carlton Tianjin where I stayed a few days ago – both are good in their own way. However, getting in and out of the hotel isn't very convenient, especially if you want to cross the road to the Songhua River. You have to navigate a really awkward traffic light intersection; the red light is very long, and even when it's green, there are cars turning right at high speed, which makes you quite nervous. The city view rooms have a poor outlook, filled with crowded, matchbox-like buildings with hardly any greenery. There's only one stool and one armchair in the room, which isn't very convenient. There's also a heating vent on the windowsill, so I was hesitant to put my phone there for fear of it falling off.

Whenever I visit Harbin, I always stay at the New Paris Hotel, and each time the experience is excellent, a perfect score! Its location is superb, right next to the metro, making travel incredibly convenient. The front desk service is warm, professional, and responsive. The rooms are exceptionally clean, with impeccable hygiene. The in-room facilities are complete, well-maintained, and the rooms themselves are spacious and quiet with good lighting. It's suitable for both leisure and business stays, highly recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

A hotel with great character! It's only a 2-minute walk from Central Avenue, so the location is superb! It's clean and hygienic. There are supermarkets and restaurants nearby, which is very convenient! Whether you eat downstairs or order takeout, it's easy. There's no separate shower area, only a bathtub, which might be inconvenient for elderly people with mobility issues. It would be even better if they didn't use Ice Dew bottled water 😃. Breakfast is the same every day!

The hotel is generally good, with an excellent location very close to Central Street and convenient amenities nearby. However, the downside is that the rooms are too small, old, and have poor soundproofing. The service is good. The polar bear specimen in the lobby is a nice, original touch.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Five-star review We chose this Mercure hotel for our trip to Harbin, and our overall experience was excellent. The hotel's location is quite convenient; it's easy to catch a taxi right outside to various attractions. The room was very clean, with no strange odors, and the bed was super comfortable. It was also quiet at night, which was great for us traveling with a child. The front desk staff were very friendly, and both check-in and check-out were quick. They were also prompt in responding to any questions or issues we had. The water pressure and temperature in the bathroom were good, and all the facilities were in perfect working order. The common areas were also tastefully decorated, making it very relaxing to return to the hotel after a long day of traveling. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay for our family trip, and the value for money was good. We would definitely prioritize staying here again on our next visit to Harbin. Highly recommended!

I came to Harbin with friends and chose this hotel. The price was reasonable and the front desk service was good; they patiently answered all my questions. The only downside is that the entrance is a bit hard to spot. This hotel is very popular, so reservations are necessary. There are shopping malls and various restaurants downstairs, making it a paradise for food lovers. It's not far from the Northeast Tiger Park and Sun Island Polar Aquarium, and ride-hailing services are very convenient. We stayed on the 22nd floor, and the staff were very welcoming, promptly cleaning our room. Their smiles were very helpful! A very pleasant stay; Harbin is great!

Exceeded expectations, highly recommended! Next time I come to Harbin, I'll definitely stay for more nights. Before arriving in Harbin, when booking a hotel, besides location and facilities, my main concern was whether there was a pool for kids. After much deliberation among several star-rated hotels, I finally chose Shangri-La Songbei. It turned out to be the absolute best decision of our Harbin-Yichun trip. The most surprising thing? It has to be the hotel's window view! We gasped the moment we entered the room – it was simply stunning! How could there be such a large window, such a beautiful view of the Songhua River, and such a perfect hotel? This scene made us never want to leave the room; just quietly sitting by the window and enjoying the scenery was enough. Next, let's talk about the hotel's service, which was also top-notch! We had an early flight back to Beijing on our departure day. We had booked a room with breakfast, but since we had to leave by 6 AM, we wouldn't be able to enjoy it. So, when checking in, I asked the front desk if there was a solution. The hotel offered a incredibly thoughtful plan: they prepared simple packed meals for us to take away. When we checked out, I saw three bags for the three of us, and each bag contained three packed containers with fruits, pastries, eggs, sausages, and more – it was so comprehensive! Who wouldn't love such a considerate hotel? Finally, one more thing: there aren't many dining options near the hotel. There's only one dumpling restaurant across the road. We navigated there, walked around for a long time, and just as we were about to give up, we discovered a hidden gem of a restaurant nearby called 'Dufu Smoked & Sauced Dumpling Longjiang Cuisine.' I highly recommend this restaurant too! The dishes are diverse, delicious, and affordably priced. It's truly a treasure! I'm already planning to replicate this experience with Shangri-La Songbei and Dufu Restaurant on my next trip to Harbin – I'm so excited to plan my next Harbin itinerary just for them! 😘

Overall, my experience was just okay. No one from the staff called us before check-in. And they followed up right after check-out! The air conditioning in the room was leaking and making strange noises. The shower pressure was weak, and the shower head wasn't stable. The pool facilities were outdated; my child cut their hand twice on the old tiles.
