Best Things to Do in Kuching for Your Perfect Getaway | Trip.com

Gambar Profil Penulis

My first thoughts of Kuching were of lush greenery, serene river views, and the unique charm of Sarawak’s capital city. Kuching, with its blend of colonial architecture, local heritage, and laid-back atmosphere, feels like a peaceful retreat compared to the fast pace of Kuala Lumpur. Life here moves slower, and it's easy to unwind—whether you're taking a leisurely walk along the Kuching Waterfront or exploring the quiet lanes of Carpenter Street, there’s a calming rhythm to the city.

Malaysians will enjoy the local shopping experience, from traditional handicraft shops to weekend markets offering Sarawak souvenirs and unique finds. The food scene is a true highlight—think hearty laksa, crispy midin belacan, and fresh seafood that suits every taste and budget. If you’re looking to relax, Kuching also offers wellness options, including massage parlours and day spas. Wondering where to stay in Kuching? You’ll find everything from affordable guesthouses to boutique hotels with plenty of character.

🌅 Stroll Along the Kuching Waterfront at Sunset

Kuching Waterfront

As the golden sun began to dip below the horizon, I found myself walking along the Kuching Waterfront, mesmerised by the warm hues dancing across the calm Sarawak River. A soft breeze brushed against my skin, carrying the smell of satay grilling from nearby food stalls. The rhythmic sound of water lapping against the embankment mixed with the distant beat of a street musician’s drum. I paused to watch children laughing by the fountains while couples captured moments beneath the glowing Darul Hana Bridge. With every step, I felt more connected to the city’s gentle charm. The view of the grand State Legislative Assembly building lit up the skyline—majestic, calm, and unforgettable.

First time booking this hotel and it's a good stay for a night as the room is quite small to me but for solo travellers probably ok with this kind of room. Unfortunately, the photos on the site didn’t match our expectations. As a first timer booking here, it wasn’t so good. This one room suite is fine for a 1 night stay but it is very small/tight to move. In the details there’s stated dining room/washing machine but the room was super tiny that the original facilities are already packed. Wifi didn’t work the whole night. The staff was quick to check but after that it still didn’t work so end up having to buy data to do work which was the reason for staying the night. The room was a bit dusty when i came too. There is no free parking for 1 night stay as told when checking in, so limited access card given (no access to parking space). Would probably not book this type of room again next time. A bit too below expectation. Would definitely ask more questions before booking next time, cannot trust photos given blindly.

The hotel is old, and only one elevator works, so getting up and down is a bit slow. The corridors and rooms smell damp. I booked a room for three people, but the amenities provided were always for two people. Fortunately, the staff were quick to respond when reminded. However, during our four-day, three-night stay, we consistently had to remind the staff. There was an air-conditioning problem on the first night, but the next day we received a new room with functioning air conditioning.

For that price point good deal . Clean hotel. Newly renovated hotel. Hotel car park provided. Basement car park is tight. Not for big suv. For sedan is ok. Roadside car park available. Definitely not dedicated since other hotel guests doesn't care about the plate number. 5 min walk to 24 hours laundry shop. Front desk is good. Most important the breakfast laksa is surprisingly good . Will use this hotel again on my next Kuching trip
