Best Things to Do in Kuching for Your Perfect Getaway | Trip.com

Gambar Profil Penulis

My first thoughts of Kuching were of lush greenery, serene river views, and the unique charm of Sarawak’s capital city. Kuching, with its blend of colonial architecture, local heritage, and laid-back atmosphere, feels like a peaceful retreat compared to the fast pace of Kuala Lumpur. Life here moves slower, and it's easy to unwind—whether you're taking a leisurely walk along the Kuching Waterfront or exploring the quiet lanes of Carpenter Street, there’s a calming rhythm to the city.

Malaysians will enjoy the local shopping experience, from traditional handicraft shops to weekend markets offering Sarawak souvenirs and unique finds. The food scene is a true highlight—think hearty laksa, crispy midin belacan, and fresh seafood that suits every taste and budget. If you’re looking to relax, Kuching also offers wellness options, including massage parlours and day spas. Wondering where to stay in Kuching? You’ll find everything from affordable guesthouses to boutique hotels with plenty of character.

🌅 Stroll Along the Kuching Waterfront at Sunset

I paused to watch children laughing by the fountains while couples captured moments beneath the glowing Darul Hana Bridge. With every step, I felt more connected to the city’s gentle charm. The view of the grand State Legislative Assembly building lit up the skyline—majestic, calm, and unforgettable.

Everything was fine, no major issues. But was expecting a bit more for a RM1500 per night stay, eg more attentive and coordinated staff, larger breakfast spread, bathroom drains that didn't smell. Not comparable with other hotels in this price point. Porters were not well informed of facility operating hours. maître d' at restaurant was inconspicuous, walked in and several staff just stared at us, felt awkward and unwelcoming. Food at breakfast was pretty average, not bad, but could do with a more premium touch.

Had a pleasant stay at the hotel. The rooms were spacious, clean, and comfortable, offering good value for money. The hotel is convenient located near the airport and connected to a shopping mall, making it easy to access food and essential. Breakfast was enjoyable with good variety of options, and the staff were generally friendly and helpful. However, there was a blackout during my stay that lasted more than 30 minutes, and it appeared that there was no backup generator available. Fortunately, it occurred in the early morning when there was some natural light. It would have been more challenging if it had happened at night. This is an area the hotel need to look into. Overall, still a comfortable stay, but improvements in this aspect would enhance the experience further.

You can easily walk to the Kuching Waterfront, the Cat Statues, Chinatown, and numerous restaurants and cafes. Whether you're traveling for leisure or business, it's a huge time-saver – you can complete most of your itinerary just by walking. 🛏️ **Comfortable and Spacious Rooms** The room size was larger than expected, with a sensible layout, comfortable beds, and excellent air conditioning. Some room types offer city or river views, which are beautiful at night, perfect for relaxing. The overall hygiene was good, making it a great value-for-money option. 🧹 **Service and Facilities** The front desk service was efficient, and both check-in and check-out were smooth. The hotel provides essential facilities like elevators, Wi-Fi, and breakfast service, which are perfectly adequate for daily needs. 🍽️ **Breakfast and Surroundings** The breakfast is a simple affair, but it's enough to kickstart your day. This is a classic older hotel. The biggest highlight is definitely the great views and relaxing atmosphere, especially the balcony area which is very comfortable and offers excellent scenery. We stayed in a triple room. The room itself felt quite old, and the facilities clearly showed their age. As for cleanliness, it was a case of 'looks okay on the surface, but the details are lacking.' For instance, there were some less-than-clean marks on the sheets, and while the towels had clearly been washed, their dark color wasn't ideal. The bathroom's cleanliness was also just average; not overtly dirty, but not meticulously clean either. Overall, the hotel's strong points are its views and location. However, there's room for improvement regarding the room's hardware and the detailed cleanliness. It's best suited for guests who prioritize scenic views and are less sensitive about the age of the accommodations.

While the room wasn't huge, it had all the essential amenities and the location was excellent. There were plenty of dining options nearby, making it super convenient for both getting around and eating out. The only downside was the inconsistent hot water supply; it wasn't hot enough and quickly turned cold, which really impacted my shower experience. I hope they can improve their hot water system.

I stayed here for a few nights and had a generally acceptable experience. The room itself was a bit old and dated. However, looking past the dated decor, the overall stay was okay. The room was kept clean, the bed was comfortable enough for a good night's sleep, and all the basic amenities worked without any major issues. The staff were friendly, and the location was quite convenient. If you are looking for a modern, luxury experience, this might not be the place for you. But if you just need a functional, reasonably priced place to crash for a couple of days, it gets the job done. It's nothing fancy, but overall ok.

Unfortunately, the photos on the site didn’t match our expectations. As a first timer booking here, it wasn’t so good. This one room suite is fine for a 1 night stay but it is very small/tight to move. In the details there’s stated dining room/washing machine but the room was super tiny that the original facilities are already packed. Wifi didn’t work the whole night. The staff was quick to check but after that it still didn’t work so end up having to buy data to do work which was the reason for staying the night. The room was a bit dusty when i came too. There is no free parking for 1 night stay as told when checking in, so limited access card given (no access to parking space). Would probably not book this type of room again next time. A bit too below expectation. Would definitely ask more questions before booking next time, cannot trust photos given blindly.

The hotel sits right in the heart of Kuching city centre, which made it super convenient for exploring. It's about a 5-minute drive (or a short Grab ride) to the iconic Sarawak River Promenade and waterfront area, where you'd want to catch the sunset views, street food, and evening vibes. Nearby attractions like South City Park, Sarawak Orchid Garden, and Jalan Padungan (famous for its street art and cafes) were all within easy walking or quick ride distance. Grab drivers were plentiful outside the hotel, and it felt central without being right in the noisy tourist core—perfect balance.

Lobby is too crowded, small and no waiting sofa or desk. Propose to have a waiting area, with desk then the guest can read the newspaper while awaiting for friends to pick up or awaiting grab driver. The nearby restaurant is too far, we have to go to mall for dining during rainy days.
