Cross border travel between Johor and Singapore is an essential daily routine for thousands of commuters, students, and travellers. For many years, the Johor Singapore Causeway has experienced heavy congestion, especially during peak hours and public holidays. To improve connectivity and reduce traffic pressure, both governments have introduced a modern rail solution that aims to make border crossings faster and more efficient.

At present, cross border train services are operated by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTM) through the Shuttle Tebrau service between Johor Bahru Sentral and Woodlands Train Checkpoint. Once the RTS Link begins operations, which is targeted for December 2026, it will become the main rail connection between Malaysia and Singapore, replacing the existing KTM shuttle service.

How to Travel from JB to Singapore by KTM Shuttle Tebrau

The Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTM) Shuttle Tebrau is currently the fastest train option between Johor Bahru and Singapore. Below is an updated step by step guide for Malaysian travellers.

Step 1: Book Your Ticket Online

Purchase your KTM Shuttle Tebrau ticket online through the official KTM website or mobile app.

Tickets from Johor Bahru Sentral to Woodlands Train Checkpoint cost RM 5 one way and $5 (From SG)

It is strongly recommended to book in advance because tickets sell out quickly, especially during weekends, public holidays, and peak commuting hours. Over the counter purchases are limited and often unavailable on busy days.

Step 2: Arrive at JB Sentral

Travel to JB Sentral by Grab, taxi, or local bus. If you are coming from other parts of Johor Bahru, you may take a bus from Larkin Sentral to JB Sentral.

Arrive at least 30 to 45 minutes before your departure time.

Step 3: Proceed to Gate A

Inside JB Sentral, head to Gate A, which is the departure gate for the KTM Shuttle Tebrau service.

The boarding gate opens 30 minutes before departure and closes 10 minutes before the train leaves. Late passengers will not be allowed to board.

Step 4: Complete Malaysian Immigration Clearance

After passing the boarding gate, prepare your passport. Your passport acts as your boarding pass and will be scanned at the Automated Control Gate.

Proceed downstairs via the escalator for immigration clearance. You may use either:

  • Manual immigration counters
  • Automated e gates, if eligible

Step 5: Board the Train to Singapore

After clearing immigration, wait at the designated waiting area until boarding begins.

Once announced, proceed to the platform and board the train.

The train ride across the Causeway takes approximately five minutes.

Step 6: Clear Singapore Immigration

Upon arrival at Woodlands Train Checkpoint, disembark and follow the signs to the immigration hall.

Complete Singapore immigration clearance at either the manual counters or automated gates.

Step 7: Continue Your Journey in Singapore

After immigration clearance, proceed via the overhead bridge to access:

  • Taxi stand
  • Connecting transport options

You may then continue to your destination within Singapore.

Came here for a night with my kid.Hotel is very near to the checkpoint.I got here around 4pm so it wasn’t crowded.Super smooth check in.I did request on the spot for a complimentary upgrade but was told they’re unable to do that.Maybe that’s something they can work on.I was given a later check out at 12.30pm so it’s not too bad.Room was amazing and clean.The toilet has a bidet so it’s a plus point!We were on the 29th floor.Staff were friendly.The breakfast buffet spread was good too.I loved the pastries.Swimming pool was empty when I brought my son so it was really good and I feel the size of the pool is perfect.It isn’t small.Overall it’s a pleasant stay and I’ll come back again!

Jumbo Seafood is also in ION Orchard, and the food came out quickly. It tasted even better than the Jumbo Seafood in Shanghai!

The breakfast spread was extensive, with a great variety of both Western and Asian options, all of which tasted delicious. Overall, everything from the environment and facilities to the service was impeccable. It was a very enjoyable and memorable stay. Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! It's so good, I have to say it three times! I booked a Bay View King Room, and before arriving, I was a bit worried after reading some reviews. But it turned out to be truly outstanding! The room was clean. For the same price, you can't compare it to what you'd get back home, but this is Singapore! The hygiene, convenient transportation, and surrounding environment are all top-notch, absolutely superb! It's right next to Funan Mall! Across the street are St Andrew's Cathedral and a museum. It's a maximum 15-minute walk to Merlion Park (900 meters from the hotel), 5 minutes to the Old Hill Street Police Station building, Clarke Quay, 15 minutes to Fort Canning Park's Tree Tunnel, 20 minutes to various museums and Chinatown. Plus, it's only a 3-minute walk to City Hall MRT station – incredibly convenient! Ya Kun Kaya Toast is right inside Funan Mall, and Song Fa Bak Kut Teh is directly opposite the Old Hill Street Police Station, so convenient! The hotel service was also excellent. On check-in day, we met a guy who spoke Chinese, and he arranged a room for us directly facing Marina Bay Sands – absolutely beautiful! Next time I visit Singapore, I'll definitely stay at Wyndham again! P.S.: The colorful building in picture 3 is right behind the hotel. If you keep walking in that direction, you'll find the Fort Canning Park Tree Tunnel!

We were able to check in early which is a plus. The hotel is right outside MRT Lavender exit B. There are a lot of food shops around. Arab Street is within walking distance. They can change towels everyday but bedding every 2 days, didn't change slippers, a minus. There's a bus stop nearby also. They have a small gym and a swimming pool with no lifeguards. The outdoor swimming pool also isn't too strict unlike other hotels where you'd be required to wear proper swimming attire and head cap. As it says in the notice, swim at your own risk. We didn't avail of the breakfast buffet but they are offering 15SGD per person. Across the hotel is a toast Box where you can have traditional Kaya Toast and Kopi. It is a good place to stay if you only want to sleep after a full day of going around. The room has windows overlooking the pool but can't be opened. It also reeks of ammonia. There was little effort to explore alternative solutions or offer reassurance, which made the process more stressful than it needed to be. In a hospitality setting, a bit of understanding and problem-solving goes a long way, and this was noticeably lacking. That said, once past the check-in issue, the rest of the stay was relatively smooth. The facilities were decent, and housekeeping maintained a good standard throughout. Overall, Studio M delivers well on comfort, design, and location, but the service experience—particularly at the front desk—could benefit from a more guest-centric approach. It’s a great place to stay if everything goes according to plan, but if you run into any hiccups, be prepared for a by-the-book response rather than a flexible one.

The view from outside was also very good. There's a pool on the 2nd floor, but I didn't have time to use it. The hotel had a lot of guests and felt lively. The only downsides were the lack of disposable slippers and the inconvenient shower gel/shampoo, which you'd need to bring yourself. However, there was tea and coffee, and you could boil your own water. The cleaning staff, especially the gentlemen, were very nice and polite, and the room was kept very clean! Overall, I'd definitely recommend it. You can book with confidence.

The room was great, and the location was excellent. It was convenient to take public transportation from the MRT, and it wasn't a long walk either. The beach was right across the road, perfect for swimming, with plenty of showers and foot-washing stations. The hotel also had a fantastic pool, about 100 meters long and 20 meters wide, plus a hot spring for soaking – truly comprehensive facilities! Getting to Universal Studios and the Ocean Park was also very convenient. The only downsides I can mention are that being by the sea, the room was a bit damp and there were some small ants, but nothing else. We even saw some wild animals!

I was back here after a while..there were some small changes here and there. Yes..keep it up for improvements! I requested for checking out at 1.00pm the next day and told the staff to take note so that their other staff would be aware as well. They said that it would be noted in the system. However, I still received a call just before 12 noon but I did not answer it as I was in the bathroom. Hmmm..oh well.. All else were acceptable for a short stay. Thank you.
