We booked this knowing it was not in the Centro area of the city. We wanted peace and quiet. The hotel itself is dated but clean and the views are wonderful. The pool was somewhat dirty and there were many missing tiles on the bottom which made us pass on that to avoid cut feet. Our first night we were blown out of bed at 3:15 which so much noise, yelling, screaming, slamming doors and people outside out door on cell phones. We learned that 2 tour busses arrived and it was a large, loud group checking in. Breakfast was confusing with the large group in house but once served it was ok, however we did not understand what was and was not included so we were charged for our ”free breakfast”. We carried on, went out for the day and returned around 3 for a nap and once again the group came back from their tour of the day and the hotel was loud and napping was not an option. We packed up, forfeited out second paid night and left for a hotel in Centro which proved to be so much nicer and quieter even right on one of the plazas. Lesson learned.

Kind of bizarre hotel. Good beds, wonderful towels, but I'm not sure I'd stay there again because not once in the four days were were there did we have warm water. I asked about it at the front desk every single day but nothing ever happened, and they never said anything about how that was really unusual and maybe there's a problem, so my guess it's always like that. Also, if you are arriving by car, parking is paid (for 3 nights, we ended up paying 420 pesos). The biggest thing if arriving by car is that you will need to carry your luggage down a LOT of stairs (and then back up at check-out). I was kind of surprised the hotel didn't seem to have anyone that can help, as some people would really really struggle with it. Some reviewers mentioned ”having to walk up the hill to the parking lot” but my husband and I imagined we would drop our luggage off and then walk just ourselves, we had no idea we would be carrying all our luggage through a crowded tourist area, down 3 crowded flights of stairs, through a hotel and up and down several other flights of stairs (some are smaller than a normal flight, and some are normal sized flights). Anyway, the beds are very good and the funicular is really fun but this place is best for someone who packs light and isn't staying for long, because of the cold water.

Trying to get to the hotel was a little confusing due to the tunnels and a police officer blocking the main road to get to the hotel, but eventually we got there. There is no valet but you can park your car on the left side real quick and go inside to let them know you’ve arrived and they will park your car for you. We got greeted by a wonderful, very well spoken bilingual woman named Aileen. She was so helpful and informative. It was a huge plus for us to have someone speak English since my American boyfriend didn’t know Spanish. The rooms were extremely clean and had all the amenities that we needed for our stay. If you forgot something at home, they most likely had it. We loved that the hotel was RIGHT in the middle of the city. Everything is walking distance. Now for the cons… We booked 3 massages and the spa room only fit 1. I would have wanted to at least have had a couples massage but they accommodated it in our room. It wasn’t as relaxing as we would have wanted it. The masseuses did a great job tho. There was also an extremely loud noise coming from the room upstairs, it seemed like someone was moving/building furniture. It woke us up at 8 am and the noise got worse thru out the morning we couldn’t go back to sleep. Besides those things I would definitely recommend this hotel and I would have my family stay there again!
Hotelito "Casa Dionisio"

A 3-4 minute ascent up for the walk and steps to this spotlessly clean, comfortable boutique hotel makes the views from the rooms, balconies and upper terrace every bit worthwhile. (Staying downtown does not provide the same experience as the mountains and city can only be experienced from the higher viewpoint). Each room, with en-suite bathroom is different, thoughtfully enhanced with hand carved furniture and Mexican tiles. The manager of the hotel can arrange fantastic in house massages upon request and you can bring a bottle of your own preference up to the terrace in the evening to relax and enjoy the city views. Back down the walk it is only a minute stroll to Jardin Union plaza and Teatro Juarez. This vibrant centre of Guanaquato city is cultural, musical, safe and welcoming. Wonderful walking, dining and historical experiences. Vibrant, yet with a relaxed flow, Guanaquato city is well deserved of its World Heritage Site designation. Our stays at Casa Dionisio have always been comfortable and enjoyable. For those not able to carry bags/luggage up the hill, advise the hotel in advance to make arrangements for help. Casa Dionisio is quite the hidden gem.

Clean, comfortable, simple rooms in local neighborhood. Beds are comfortable and shower is hot. The host is extremely helpful and the breakfast on the terrace is lovely. This is not an ordinary hotel but a converted house on top of one of the hills of Guanajuato. It is a steep walk up and down. The 2 flights of circular stairs to the terrace are not for everyone but once you are there the views are spectacular.
Edelmira Hotel Boutique

The Edelmira is a great choice for a visit to Guanajuato. It is an upscale hotel in a great central location.....steps from everything, including one of the nicest tree-lined and compact parks in Mexico. Staff is fabulous. Henrique was always able to point us in the right direction during our 3 days there. Breakfast was modestly priced and one of the great values left in travel. Great selections and everything was perfectly presented and delicious.....Eggs, chilaquiles, and awesome French toast. Our upgraded room upstairs was great....spacious, clean, blackout shutters....like a top tier business class hotel, but with abundant charm. Overall, a just great place to stay in Guanajuato.
