Hotel berhampiran Agrigento Centrale, Agrigento

Villa Athena has been the top hotel in Agrigento and one of the well-known luxury hotels in Sicily for decades. We could not get a reservation there on our first trip to Sicily, but this spring we were able to stay for 2 nights. The location is as amazing as pictures and website show - you can look our your window or sit in the garden with a full-on view of the Temples. Absolutely stunning. Having said that, location and view are only one part of the hotel experience. Our room (temple view) was extremely small, but very well-maintained; the bathroom was decent-sized and totally modern. Still, it was the smallest room we've had anywhere in Europe in a long time, let alone for a 5-star hotel. Since we were there before summer, breakfast and dinner were served in a totally indoor space without any view and decorated in an ultra-modern style, which left us a little cold. And while the front desk staff were very welcoming, the restaurant staff did not add much to our experience -- on the first morning, we were ignored (for ordering coffee or seeing a menu) until we called someone over and we never got a single smile from anyone. We were so surprised that I mentioned it - quietly - to the front desk person. It actually made us decide to have dinner elsewhere. On the second morning, the breakfast staff was friendlier, but I have to say that it colored our opinion of the hotel. We were happy to have finally stayed at the Villa, but if I were to return to Agrigento, I'd seek out an alternative. If the Villa advertises itself as a 5-star experience and charges accordingly, it needs to deliver. We'd be willing to stay in less luxury but with warmer, more personal service.

Truly wonderful B&B! The place is stylish and very comfortable. Barbara, the host/owner, is incredibly welcoming and gracious and helpful. The view from our home looked over the entire valley of the temples. The room itself was great. Comfortable. The bathroom, and especially the shower, was amazing. The balcony view of the valley was special. All quite perfect. Stay at the place if you can!! And the breakfast was as good as we have ever had at a B&B with a huge variety of local food from savory to sweet. All freshly prepared.

Io e la mia compagna ci siamo voluti regalare un viaggio in Sicilia, tappe Palermo, Agrigento e Catania. Ad Agrigento era impossibile non andar a vedere la Valle dei Templi, allora abbiamo scelto questo hotel, siamo rimasti entusiasti su tutti i punti, la struttura è eccellente ma forse le persone che ci lavorano lo sono di più, gentilissime ed estremamente cordiali. Hanno saputo rispondere con competenza a qualsiasi domanda e poi la cena, che dire, ottima, non mi immaginavo che il ristorante di un hotel fosse così! La cura nelle pietanze servite è sicuramente da 10, hanno un cuoco o cuoca oltre ogni aspettativa, ripeto non solo nel cucinare, ma nel servire, nel consigliare, nel raccontare e spiegare le pietanze, il tutto non si limitava a degli ottimi cibi ma era condito anche da quel sapere che i gentilissimi camerieri hanno saputo raccontare a dei semplici commensali. Stayed with a tour group. First impressions were good-really ornate smart lobby area but sadly went downhill quite quickly. Spiral staircase not very practical for a hotel when everyone comes with luggage. Beds too soft & squeaked badly. Soundproofing wasn't anywhere near good enough for the standard of hotel. Ordered to sit at specific tables at breakfast but not told about this on check in. Some items were not being replenished very quickly at breakfast & wasn't easy to see where to find what you wanted. Hotel on a busy road in an industrial area. Lidl supermarket next door, one pizzeria down the street, another is advertised but wasn't open when we looked. Otherwise very limited facilities in the immediate area. Evening meals are served at the hotel but no pizzas and menu choices there were had higher prices than any other places we ate in Sicily so didn't bother. Dinner service doesn't open until 7.30. Shame did not get to use the pool but was glad to only be staying one night. Would not recommend.

Arrived on a Sunday at 1.00 p.m. No bar, no food available. However room was ready but nothing in mini bar to eat. Bar didn't open until 3.00 p.m. Only serves drinks, crisps and ice creams. Restaurant didn't open until 7.30p.m. Lunch not available any day at resort. Room alright and bed comfortable. Hot water supply very erratic. Bathroom fittings not great. Had to ask for kettle, mugs and spoons to make coffees/teas. Housekeeping team good and cheerful. Breakfast deadly, totally lacking in imagination. Resort restaurant served good food but wonder when the menu was last reviewed/changed. Waiting staff warm and friendly in the main. Pool area good and pool itself not heated but in the hot weather that was not a problem. Adequate sunbeds, chairs and umbrellas. Excellent beach close by resort. A car is a must as places to eat in immediate vicinity of resort scarce. Also one will be needed to explore and there's lots to do and see. Key thing to know is that Sicily is the biggest island in the Mediterranean ( about the same size as Wales) so getting across to say Siracusa or Taormina is a three hour drive there and then back

We stayed at the hotel first week of November coming to the end of season in Minori and booked before reading into the hotel as we found a good deal. It’s worth knowing before booking that the hotel does not have parking available and our parking costs equated to approx 100 euros for the week which we did not anticipate. Additionally the use of the pool was not available due to the time of the year which was frustrating as the temperatures were still as high as 22/23 degrees. Furthermore, the room was hot and the air conditioning units do not work after November, we were simply told to open the balcony doors for fresh air. It should be noted that the noise of the traffic outside the hotel even out of peak season made it feel like i was sleeping on an F1 track. The plug sockets were irritatingly situated in the room, only 2 available which was awkward when trying to charge phones and no where near the bed when relaxing. The hotel was spotlessly clean, with fresh bedding and towels every day - the housekeepers do a fantastic job there. All the staff were very pleasant and welcoming, I just wish we visited Minori in the summer to appreciate the hotel fully.

We had a large room and bathroom, everything was spotlessly clean and looked as if it had been decorated yesterday. Our host was so friendly to pick us up after we had phoned him for help since we had lost our way in the historic centre of Agrigento. Guests are kindly requested to fill in a form fortheir breakfast wishes. Breakfast is served in on a tray in a large kitchen opposite the guests' rooms; fresh coffee and tea are provided by the landlady. The landlord had parked our car in front of the b&b so that we did not have to pay for parking space elsewhere. We felt really welcome; you are treated almost like family by this very sympathetic couple.
