Hotel Medieval

This is an old army barracks that has been renovated with much attention to detail and attempt to create the impression of an old medieval castle. Our room was huge. Breakfast was a lavish spread and enough for a castle full of people. Unfortunately there did not seem to be many guests around and we imagined the hotel would feel very different with more people in evidence. No internet.

Such a nice hotel! Located in the medieval fortress, very clean, very comfortable bed and pillows, quality furniture, we loved our stay there. Maybe breakfast can be improved a little, but overall we were impressed.

The hotel has a wonderful setting, in the citadel, with picturesque buildings surrounding it and Roman ruins next door. The hotel itself feels a little like a palace or grand residence: you enter through an arch into a large tranquil courtyard, there’s a pretty fountain and it’s easy to sit here and relax. The hotel entrance and reception also feels very grand, walk a little further and there is a billiard room. The bedrooms were fine, but not great, especially in very hot weather - there was air conditioning (stand-alone a/c unit in the bedrooms) but it was really noisy and it didn’t seem to cool the room much at all. The rooms were a good size and the bathrooms were nice, but the corridors and furniture in the bedrooms were dark, heavy, without offering any sense of luxury or any personal touches. The food and drinks from the restaurant were good and service was good too. The breakfast was really average, quite disappointing really. There were some strange cold meat items (breaded chicken pieces and mushrooms stuffed with meat), there was some bread and cake - all very so-so.

Good: spacious rooms. Nice views. Friendly staff. Bad!! : No Aircon. STAY AWAY FROM THEIR FOOD! It's ridiculously lousy. The fish we ordered (dorada and salmon) were both dry when it finally arrived. The tomato-cucumber salad was not available since there apparently were no cucumber - so we asked to mix the tomato with some green salad instead. What we got was a bowl of half-old brownish iceberg salad with two (2) slices of tomato. Waiting time was long. Some plates were filthy, salt/pepper set was really greasy as well. Oh, forgot that my husband found a piece of plastic in his food. Breakfast was as bad! Juice of the processed sugary thin kind in two versions. Cold egg/sausage pans. 3 kinds of ham/salami. 1 kind of jam. Everything cold and looking as if from day before. Little selection. Dirty spots on the table cloth, an ant running over it. All of it in a not-airconditioned room without the option to go outside in the shade somewhere. This hotel seems to be dying which is a shame because the settings/surroundings are magnificent. Resumé: go there if you like historic buildings and views, like to sweat and don't care for food. NOT 5 ***** AT ALL!!

Mi esposa y yo nos hospedamos en este hotel por una noche entre el 20 y el 21 de junio. Quedamos muy contentos con la experiencia. Por alguna razón no nos habíamos hecho las mejores expectativas. Rápidamente nos dimos cuenta del error y nos enamoramos del hotel. Muy bien situado en el corazón de la ciudad y en un edificio muy especial, parece que fue cuartel militar alguna vez. Tiene un amplio patio interior con una fuente de agua donde hay hasta tortugas, y un bonito restaurante. La recepción el día en que llegamos fue muy atenta, la más amable de los 7 hoteles que visitamos en nuestras vacaciones en Rumanía. La habitación era muy grande y señorial con dos rincones con mesa y sillones, muebles varios para diferentes usos. Un baño grande con bañera gigante, ideal para quién acostumbra bañarse en estos artilugios. Suficientes tomacorrientes para recargar todos los electrónicos. El desayuno se sirve en un comedor todo elegante con un patio exterior lleno de césped. Y por si esto fuera poco, la tarifa fue más que razonable. ¿Fallas? Hace mucha falta un escritorio para el computador portátil. Tuve que usar como escritorio improvisado algún mueble no muy apto lo que resultó incómodo. Pero salvo por eso fue una estancia para recordar con agrado.

Posizione invidiabile, nel cuore di Alba Iulia; camere spaziose così come il bagno; parcheggio gratuito di fronte all’albergo; personale gentile (da queste parti non è scontato). Questi i pro. Iniziamo con i contro: premetto che ho scelto una camera mansardata (che costa meno) e questo può aver influito sulla qualità dei servizi. Camera e bagno privi di prese (per caricare il cellulare occorre staccare la spina della luce del comodino, in bagno impossibile attaccare alcunché perché non ci sono prese), Wi-Fi inesistente, impossibilità di chiudere la finestra (sia perché rotta sia perché priva di tende: immaginate la luce del mattino!), condizionatore molto rumoroso, colazione un po’ carente per un cinque stelle. Insomma, nel complesso, soggiorno molto al di sotto delle aspettative. Spero siano difetti solo delle camere mansardate che - lo ribadisco - hanno un prezzo inferiore.
