This hotel has been open for over 20 years, so the facilities are a bit old and the soundproofing isn't great. However, the location is absolutely fantastic – you can walk to all sorts of dining, drinking, and entertainment options. The sunset from the ocean view rooms is also beautiful. Right outside, there's a vibrant food stall and BBQ market with a great atmosphere. The staff's service and attitude are excellent.

Hyatt never disappoints. Even though the hotel is quite old, it's very well-maintained, and the service is excellent – warm and efficient. The location is superb; you can walk to Jesselton Point and many highly-rated restaurants. Suria Sabah shopping mall is right next door, which is great for shopping. It has nothing but pros; it would be even better if the room furniture could be updated!

Thank you for providing an all-in-one environment for busy professionals like me. A place where I can work, meeting old friends, and at the same time allow my 3 boys to enjoy themselves safely. The availability of both a swimming pool and a small beach, with lifeguards on duty, gave me peace of mind throughout the day. the room was also clean and convinient for us also to enjoy beautiful morning sunrise. I was able to continue my work comfortably, spending time reading and writing on my laptop by the pool, surrounded by beautiful seaside scenery while watching my son playing. The experience was further enhanced by the availability of good food at the restaurant despite busy with customer, waitress e.g Ms Shamira and all were very helpful. Added with relaxing drinks in the evening while listening to live band performances, and quiet moments of healing by the beach, resting on the sofa with the sound of the sea. The staff were friendly and helpful, e.g Mr Alex and the team, who made our stay even more pleasant. Hopefully, we will have the opportunity to come again.

The room was quite old, but luckily I had read other reviews before checking in, so I was prepared. We were notified in advance that the hotel rooms were under renovation, but strangely, there was hammering every night. It wouldn't stop until we called customer service (dial 3 on the phone) to complain. The latest it went on was until 12 AM, which was unbearable. Yet, the next day, it was the same; if we didn't call, the hammering continued. This 'wait for the other shoe to drop' management style is truly incomprehensible. The breakfast had a wide variety, but the taste was awful. The service staff, however, were friendly, especially during the busy check-out rush around noon, with countless bags. The front desk and concierge had ample staff who were proactive in helping guests store luggage, making the flow very smooth. There are hardly any dining options nearby, so we ate at the Shang Palace Chinese restaurant several times. The food was okay, just okay. The plain rice was inedible; stick to fried rice or stir-fried rice noodles. The beach and pool were nice, and the beautiful sunsets and coconut groves were unforgettable. In the lobby, I met another couple from Shanghai who were complaining about a formaldehyde smell in their room and requesting a room change, but it seemed their issue wasn't resolved.

There's quite a difference between Marriott hotels in China and abroad. The only reason I'm giving a higher score is for the sea view. Facilities: I stayed in a sea-view room, and yes, you could see the sea, but it was only on the 9th floor, so not very high up. I'm not sure if there were other options I wasn't offered. It was a double room, but they only provided one toothbrush cup and then claimed they had no spares. Seriously, only one toothbrush cup? I tried to shower around 9 PM, and the water was freezing cold; it just wouldn't heat up. I ended up shivering through it. I tried again during the day, and the water temperature was fine then. Cleanliness: There were obvious stains on the floor, even though it was tiled, it certainly wasn't clean. Environment: The only good thing was its proximity to the sea; you could see the ocean right away. Service: Thinking back to the lack of extra toothbrush cups, the service really wasn't great. Also, they don't provide any amenities for children here.

The overall experience was okay. The soundproofing is extremely poor. You can hear every single sound from upstairs, downstairs, the hallway, and outside the window clearly and constantly inside the room. Service: On the first day, we arrived punctually at 3 PM to check in, only to be told that our room wasn't ready. We had to wait for nearly 20-30 minutes without any compensation or explanation. They also refused our request for a late check-out, which made the entire trip start off on a very unpleasant note.

Thanks to the Sheraton Hotel staff, who provided a pleasant and healing experience on our first visit to Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, our mother-daughter trip was comfortable and happy. The male and female main managers helped us carry our luggage, opened doors for us, helped us open car doors, pointed out Grab locations, and greeted us. The main chef's special raksha was even more delicious than the raksha restaurants popular with Koreans. The fluent Korean-speaking female staff member who diligently served us warm tea every morning. The table servers and the breakfast manager who made small talk with us. The room cleaning maids. Thank you to everyone for their kindness and hospitality. I had a good rest and returned home. Be happy!

Stayed for 3 days and 2 nights. The unit is suitable for two couples, a small family, or a group of four. The location is near town, which is very convenient. The owner is easy to communicate with. There is no deposit required upon check-in, and the check-in process is simple—just follow the given instructions. Check-out is also easy; just leave the key in the mailbox. The unit has 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a small living room with a TV, and a small kitchen. A refrigerator is provided. The water heater works well, and there are 3 air conditioners. The TV has Netflix available, but you need to use your own account. The lift is fast and not crowded. For reference: Parking is paid parking — approximately RM3 for the first 2 hours, then RM1 for subsequent hours, up to a maximum of RM15 per day. There is no washing machine in the unit, but a laundry is available on the ground floor. Guests have access to the swimming pool. For Muslim guests: no sejadah (prayer mat) is provided, so please bring your own. Note: Hopefully, the owner can continue maintaining the unit to be more Muslim-friendly, as we would love to stay here again in the future. Thank you.

For a 4-star international chain like Mercure, this hotel was surprisingly old and basic. The room we booked had no view, facing an internal space, and it felt quite dated overall. The bathroom and toilet were very small, and the bathroom door had large gaps around it, which meant the outside area got very wet after showering. There was also no face towel provided, only bath towels. The room itself looked old, although the bed was clean and comfortable. Soundproofing wasn’t great either, we could clearly hear noise from outside the room. On the positive side, the staff were generally nice and helpful. And the location was good for taking day tours from the ferry terminal - just a few mins walk. Maybe rooms with views are nicer, but unfortunately ours didn’t meet expectations for a 4-star Mercure.

The breakfast food was quite tasty, but the variety was a bit limited. Also, even though we stayed at the hotel, we had to pay for parking ourselves. We stayed here after checking out from Marriot, because of its location, near to the Jetty and next to the Suria mall. We checked in the family room, which is very big. However, the hotel is a bit old, and some of the rooms are not clean. BUT, they immediately rectify the error by changing the room, made a sincere apology, even upgraded the room. This happened not to my room, but to my sibling. They actually wanted to check out and change another hotel, but they promptly rectify the problem and in the end, my sibling is happy with the new room. The location of this hotel is really great, with a good mall next to it, also a saefood restaurant not so far from it. My kids enjoyed the pool at the hotel very much.

For a twin room without windows, there are actually two doors: • First, the main door to the unit (which has three rooms inside) • Then the second door is the door to your actual room (Room 1/2/3) So far, the room was super comfy, clean, and complete with the amenities. 👍🏻👏🏻 Thank you, Promenade Service Apartment — definitely will repeat my stay here next time! ☺️💖 P/S: Sorry, I didn’t take any pictures during my stay (it was just an update for my mom 🙏🏻)

The room was quite clean. It's within walking distance to Gaya Street, Suria Sabah, and other places, as it's located in the city center. Kota Kinabalu is small, so every taxi ride seems to pass by the hotel, and it's very close to the Hilton. We checked in around midnight on the 17th, and the front desk lady was incredibly gentle and kind, providing very professional and warm service. The hotel facilities are a bit old, and the lobby had a peculiar smell, like durian or something similar, which wasn't very pleasant. However, the rooms facing the mountain were very quiet, and I slept really well. Overall, it's worth recommending, and I hope they can provide bottled water in the future.

    • insect repellent
    • You can also bring some snacks or drinks if you want to picnic on the beach, but make sure to dispose of your trash properly.

What to avoid

  • Tanjung Aru Beach is a safe and friendly place, but there are some things that you should avoid doing or encountering there. For example, you should avoid swimming too far from the shore or during high tide, as there may be strong currents or jellyfish. You should also avoid leaving your belongings unattended or exposing them to theft or damage. You should also avoid littering or damaging the beach or its environment, as this will affect its beauty and sustainability.
