The Red Lion Inn Alnmouth

Was promoted as 5-star on their website, but not at all worth the price we paid and definitely not 5-star. Room was nice, comfortable and clean but the service was very dismissive and unfriendly, both on arrival, in the bar and at breakfast service. The breakfast was particularly disappointing and poor quality - certainly not the “local Northumberland” produce that was advertised. Sadly, I will not be recommending this to friends and family.

"Not a great experience! I’ve been going to this pub off and on my whole adult life and no matter who was running it, the service and friendly welcome has always been great. A couple of days ago my friend and I visited and I pressed the bell on the bar, which you are invited to do if there are no staff around. A somber lady with a Scottish accent, came out in a very abrupt manner and instead of welcoming us she simply said “What do you want”? We were given our drinks, but I’m afraid her manner, coupled with my friend being charged £12 for a large glass of Chardonnay, put us off, so we drank up and went to another establishment in the village. The barmaid and attitude did nothing for the otherwise good reputation of this establishment."

A gem of a place with a truly authentic atmosphere and one of our favourite places in the area. Ben, Georgie and the team are always super welcoming and the food is simply delicious. We will definitely be returning for pizzas and ice cream in the beautiful garden in the summer!

We had a glorious time staying at the Red Lion. Ben, Georgie & the Team provide a wonderful welcome and the accommodation was high end. The room we stayed in was exquisitely furnished and no detail was spared. The bathroom was fantastic, as were the toiletries provided. The bed was super and everything together made us so relaxed for our stay. We highly recommend eating the in the restaurant in the evening and the breakfast is not to be missed!!! We can't wait to go back!

just returned from a great 2 nights at the Red Lion - hosts are most excellent and very friendly as are all the staff - really really good. Food was excellent - portions most generous and breakfast was tremendous - bacon was great - please make sure you are hungry; you will need little lunch in my view if you can tackle the full English with toast!! We had room #1 - very nice indeed looking over the front street and the church very comfortable bed, tea and coffee and bottled water - all really well thought out and presented with every respect - thank you to Georgie and Ben and the staff - our stay was everything we hoped for - sincerely grateful. Very enjoyable overnight stay. Room was warm and clean with comfortable king size bed. Quality linen, toiletries, tea/coffee/biscuits and water. Had an evening meal which was delicious and given a complimentary bottle of wine as we were celebrating our anniversary which was a lovely touch. Full English breakfast was fab with high quality local produce and all the usual extras of fruit juice, cereal, toast, coffee/tea and preserves etc. Staff were friendly, attentive and hardworking. Would definitely stay again. Thank you. 👍

We ate dinner at The Red Lion on two occasions during our stay in Alnmouth. The welcome received and quality of the food was excellent! All the staff we encountered were consistently friendly and cheerful. We can highly recommend a visit to this lovely place and.... you must sample the Bailey's cheesecake....it is the best ever!!

We returned for our annual visit to Alnmouth (a 3 day break in July 22) and stayed in the Red Lion as we do every visit. We again stayed in room 2, facing the church (we missed the bell chimes not working this time), which is a large spacious room, with a nice sized ensuite. As usual it was like we had never been away the staff were as lovely and helpful as ever and the breakfasts wonderful fresh and plentiful. It was also nice to be back inside the pub for a beer, as on our last 2 visits the bar area was closed due to covid. The pub has a large beer garden, which from the raise deck has great views over the estuary and is great for relaxing with a few drinks in the sunshine (which did shine a bit on this trip). Thanks again to Georgie and the team for looking after us and we will be returning again next summer. We would certainly recommend the Red Lion as a place to stay if you are visiting the area.

Called in at the Red Lion for lunch today and it is definitely the place to go if you're visiting Alnmouth. Had a bar lunch on our visit, my son and I both ordered the homemade burger and I have to say it was outstanding! The burger itself was fantastic - tender and cooked to perfection, the chips were great and the coleslaw was crisp and absolutely packed full of flavour! Generous portions and well priced and the atmosphere was amazing, I would 100% recommend and will definitely be visiting again soon!
