A joyous place to stay for so many reasons: a nature-filled location where the wildlife is at your feet: monkeys, stunning land and sea birds, the occasional frog, sloth, lizards/baselisks. Nearby is Corcovado National Park where you might get lucky and see a puma but at the very least coatimundis, white-lipped peccaries, an anteater, humming birds and many others; the snorkelling out at Caño island is spectacular (sharks, turtles, a host of colourful fish). But back to the hotel: the friendliest of hosts; good, generous food at all meals (you pre-order for the day); comfy if not glam rooms with fans (no A/C) and a dining area open to the beautiful views out to sea, edged by beautiful planting (the gardens and beautifully tended). Guests are invited to ‘hors d’oevres’ for drinks and a delish daily plate of nibbles where they exchange highlights of their day with each other, then dinner at communal tables makes for a convivial atmosphere and conversation with travellers from around the world (or you can dine at yr own table). Several birthdays were charmingly celebrated with staff and guests singing, plus cake. There’s free kayaking, sunset boating (where we encountered dolphins cavorting!) and a really chilled vibe overall. You’re not too far from the little village of Drake Bay, and there are beaches to walk to (along trails that can be a little demanding). Loved the vibe at this place, highly recommend
