Barry Island

I stayed here in February, and I knew this would be the only hotel I would stay in when I came down to Barry, it’s in the perfect location, it’s a 15-20 minute walk to the beach and also has a great coffee shop next door (academyespressobar) and then good sheds over the road that has loads of great places to eat, so it’s really in best location you could ask for.

Worn out rooms, building very tired looking. Noisy and uncomfortable bed along with no shower means definitely wouldn’t recommend

Decent location with on site parking. Check in was available from 3pm and staff were on hand for late night arrive (we arrived about 9.30pm). Clean and comfortable room but it didn't have any windows that would open which we thought was strange. There was a cool air filter system but no way of getting fresh air into the room. Corridors were incredibly hot and stuffy because of this. We stayed 2 nights and requested to have our room serviced the first morning of our stay which was not done. We didn't appreciate having to go to reception to ask for clean towels, mugs and refreshments especially after we'd put our door hanger out asking for a room service. We then were also left with the wet towels from the day before. Its a good location, close to Barry seafront, the room was spacious and the bed was comfortable but we'd have appreciated more consideration from the staff.

On arrival the litter in the car park and at tge front of the hotel made it look scruffy and lacking in someone taking responsibility for keeping the hotel looking its best. Staff friendly and helpful but no apology or offer of refund when the Cable TV system was down most of the day, all evening and the next morning. The WiFi not great unless you pay the £5 a day extra which in this day and age is a joke! The room was clean and tidy main bed comfy but single bed not quite as good. As we were staying 3 nights it would have been nice to have a waterfront room with a view as room was claustrophobic which for 1 night would have been OK but not for 3. We had evening meal on night of arrival and wish we hadn't bothered. Took over 45 minutes to recieve a cremated veg lasagna and a barely adequate mixed grill with rubbery chips. This put us off breakfast so didn't eat at the hotel again. The hotel is OK and situated conveniently for us for visiting family. Sleep quality was OK but noise from room above on last night kept me awake but that's not the fault of the hotel.

I arrived on Sunday evening following a 6 hour drive, so I was ready for a relaxing drink. Checked in around 9pm and went next door to the Brewers Fayre, the doors were locked. I appreciate that it would be too late for a meal but shutting the bar, really? The room was hot and stuffy and the air conditioning didn't work, this and the fact that the windows do open made for an uncomfortable night. I asked for scrambled eggs on toast for my breakfast to be advised you have to make your own toast, when I pointed out that the toast would be cold by the time the eggs arrived or vice versa it fell on deaf ears. The following night I was advised by a guest who had just checked in (not a member of staff) that the WiFi was down and the televisions were not working. Whilst the hotel is one of Premiers older buildings and a bit tired, there really isn't any excuse for things just not working

Friendly and helpful staff. Room was clean and tidy and had ample space for my family to not fall.over each other. Perfect location.

The outside areas of the hotel very untidy including broken glass in car park not cleared in the 3 nights we stayed there rooms very hot unable to open windows and in effective air con WIFI waste of time 2mpbs

Birthday weekend the only problem was there was a build up of dust behind the television as I am a domestic cleaner me self but apart frm that was brilliant staff was nice would recommend the breakfast next door at the brewers fair friendly ppl lots to do dwn there all within walking distance

We stayed here a couple of nights whilst visiting Barry . The staff were very friendly on arrival ,our room was very good for what we wanted , clean with a comfortable bed. The hotel is in a great location , only a 15 min walk to Island. The breakfast which is next door at the pub was very good too, the pub is a nice addition next door- lovely to sit out with a drink when the suns shining! The only problem i had was how stuffy the hotel was , i'm not a fan of not being able to open a window , not even slightly! But all in all a great stay in a great location.
