Les Lilas de Bellefontaine

This two bedroom, two bathroom cottage is absolutely delightful. It’s welcoming, spacious, comfortable and very well equipped. It’s set in a beautiful, private and very relaxing garden. Catherine and Serge are the most wonderful hosts who prepare an amazing breakfast with the freshest of croissants, bread, yoghurt, delicious home made jams, fresh eggs laid by their own chickens and so much more! Everything was perfect!

This B&B is exactly as advertised, only better. Located in an old (1800's) stone building, the facility has been recently and very tastefully renovated. There are two full bedrooms - one on the ground floor and another upstairs, as well as a bathroom on each level. There's another room with a single bed upstairs, so the place can comfortably accommodate 5 people. The back door opens onto a HUGE garden, that was very popular with our 3-year-old granddaughter. Onsite parking is available, and easily accommodates two cars. The WiFi was free and worked just like we were at home. Serge and Catherine, the owners, live next door, and are just plain super - incredibly friendly and eager to share tips and information on the local area, and help in any way they can. After meeting our granddaughter, they brought her some playthings they keep for their own grandchildren. On our last day there, they even volunteered to take us and our baggage to the train station, which was incredibly helpful. For an extra fee, Serge and Catherine offer to provide a homemade French breakfast. Their breakfast is really incredible - both delicious and a work of art. I can't recommend it highly enough. They even went out of their way to accommodate our son's gluten allergy. Overall, I just can't say enough good about our experience here. Arrival and departure were simple, and our stay was about as perfect as it could get. Both the facility and the owners are absolutely 5-star. I can really only think of one possible caution. As mentioned, it's an old stone building, and the layout leaves little room for the stairs to the upper level. The stairs are new and modern, but the stairway is necessarily narrow and open, with a couple of turns. That was no problem for us, but people with limited mobility might find navigating the stairs to be difficult.

When you book a place you never know how good it’s going to be, you can only go by the reviews you read. We were 4 ageing bikers so fancied a bit of comfort for a base to stay. This place sounded perfect so book it we did. Well it turned out to be magnificent in every respect, the accommodation was awesome, and separate to the main house to so totally private. The breakfast was awesome and all home made, and as for Catherine and Serge the owners, well I can’t say enough on what such lovely human beings there are. They as people made our stay just that bit more special. Hand on heart we just felt like part of the family and it was sad to say goodbye to them when we left. Will miss them, Steve.

The house was fantastic. Really well equipped with everything that we needed. Catherine and Serge were great hosts - they gave us a great welcome and helped us out when our car broke down. The house was lovely and cool. There was a lot of space and the garden was lovely to sit and relax in. The house was a short walk into the centre of Bayeux but was lovely and quiet. A great house, a great welcome and a great host. Thanks for letting us use the house for this short time.

What wonderful people, place is awesome beautiful gardens. We were there from r 4 days toured beaches my st michel they provide gated parking. Best place to stay in Bayeux walk to everything in town. Would stay again

What can I say. The accommodation is excellent in an excellent location just a few minutes walk from the town centre. Catherine and Serge's breakfasts are excellent (and home cooked), and Catherine and Serge are the best hosts you could wish for. We were made to feel extremely welcome and felt like part of the family. What a great stay and what great gem of a place to find. Many thanks Catherine and Serge. We miss you already x.

Catherine and Serge's place is located perfectly in Bayeux. Short walk to the tapestry and the cathedral. Also ideal for going further afield to visit Caen, D-Day beaches, castles only 30 minutes away! Easy and safe off street parking. The cottage itself is full of historical touches, lovingly restored with a great kitchen and bathrooms. We mostly ate out or brought in as many bakeries and restaurants are only a short walk. The kitchen was thoughtfully supplied if we wanted to cook dinner. Catherine has gracefully given us a new sponge, plenty of capsules to run the dishwasher... something other hosts don't always think of. The garden was so lovely to come home and enjoy with a glass of cider after a day of sightseeing! Our kids loved bathing in the claw footed tub with the canopy. Catherine and Serge were very responsive to any communication. I can't think of a more gracious and cheerful host. We highly recommend Lilas de Bellefontaine!
