I had previously quarantined for 10 days at Holiday Inn Express Beijing Temple of Heaven which is much smaller but more modern (HDMI plug/play ready TV, ethernet, furniture etc) and with many bilingual staff. I came to this branch after I booked online, and some advice for international travelers here. Unless you are VIP with a bilingual PA you gonna have to take some responsibility, meaning it's standard to know that EVERY hotel needs to know your date of entry into country and see a valid visa page on your passport. Just get them ready with a post-it to show the reception staff so checking in is not a nigh**are! Also I stayed here during the Health Check App requirement, and there was COVID testing literally 100 yards from hotel!
Although this hotel is kinda old, with furniture and fittings looking a little tacky, there is a exhibition of fine black and white photographs throughout the floor, pictures are of the 'ethnic groups' (see photo) — someone said it was kinda paternalistic national geographic, but at least it's not like those euro world fair 'savage on display' photos.
Now the rooms! Well the Standard Queen room I booked online was not the room I got going by the pictures, and I then booked a Superior room which came with mini fridge, sofa, table/laptop desk [see photo]. Although the rooms were a let down after staying at Beijing Temple Heaven branch, this larger holiday inn has great views on the hotel deck (see photo).
Finally there was some weird 'nightlife' going on in the vicinity, I say this because at night I would go on a walkabout and my spider sense was definitely tingling, it may be connected to the Kara Night Club see photo. But I still felt safe as it's tourist part of Beijing.
