We just came back from a 5 night stay here, including The Level. The greeting when we arrived from staff was fabulous, informative and friendly. Our room was nice, a little dated, but did the job - we had a wrap around balcony which was wonderful. Good air con and powerful shower. There was no extractor fan (or it just wasn't working) in bathroom so mirror took ages to clear and was the only one to do makeup in. It was also not a very well cleaned mirror. Mini shaving mirror light didn't work. Shower gel, shampoo etc was lovely. We did notice that our dirty cups did not get taken out of the room by the cleaner which was a bit annoying. We were all inclusive and had no issues or complaints here. Food was yummy and plentiful, waiters were fairly attentive. I did notice a lot of the wine glasses unfortunately weren't very clean (same for The Level). It would be nice if there was a drinks dispenser machine rather than glass bottles from an eco friendly point of view. We did not have any trouble with getting sun loungers on any of the days. Entertainment was really good and again the staff/entertainers were super friendly. The snacks and drinks at The Level were a great addition. Great to have a separate area to get breakfast in the morning as the main food hall seemed quite hectic at this time. WiFi great all around hotel and gardens. The pool area is one of the best I've been to. Only complaint here is The Level part of outside is grass so can get a bit muddy. I would say that this hotel (communal areas and rooms) is in need of an update/general touch up in places as it is starting to look tired (scuffs on walls, rust on shower pole, watermarks on walls etc). This, of course, did not make our holiday any less enjoyable but just worth noting. I would definitely say this is NOT a 4 star or luxury hotel - I would not rate this more than 3. When we left, we had to check out at 5am - we didn't know whether to check out at the level or main reception. When we enquired the day before, the lovely lady at The Level let us know it would be main reception and offered us a picnic breakfast to be ready for us the next day. Unfortunately in the morning it was not there and the guy on reception had no record of it. Other than this mishap, couldn't ask for more staff wise. Did not like that greyhound racing was advertised in the lifts due to the cruelty and abandonment of the dogs related to this. It is worth noting that other reviews have stated that Brits get treated as second class citizens here, in NO WAY did we experience this. The highlights of this hotel would have to be the amazing and friendly staff, and the fabulous pool. Downsides were upkeep of the hotel and overall cleanliness. This said, we would definitely be back again but would hope for a more refreshed and upkept hotel and room.

This is a Warning about the times chosen to eat half board at Hotel Melina. We've just returned from a weeks stay based on half board. We chose to have Breakfast and Dinner instead of Breakfast and Lunch. Breakfast wasn't bad , very average for Spain but it was the food quality and selection on the Evening Dinner that let us down. The first meal on the Sunday seemed to be pretty good but then it went down hill. You could tell that some of the food was recycled dishes from Lunch, the soup was limited and not an attractive option. We were usually one of the first into the Dining room ( due to late and starving) which didn't open UNTIL 8pm. Not Good. It was only on the Thursday that we decided to have a sneak into the LUNCHTIME session to see what was served up on that sitting as against our Dinner Menu. We found a BIG difference in the Selection and quality on offer at Lunch. Things like Paella (my favourite) Corn on the Cob, Better items on offer including a big better choice of Soups and Quantity all which we never had on our Dinner Menu. We felt we had been mugged by the food on offer on our Evening Dinner dining menu. So our Warning is DON'T CHOOSE THE 8PM DINING you get a much better choice and selection on the LUNCHTIME menu. Plus 8pm is a bit too late to have to wait for your Evening dinner but its a very Spanishy traditional Hotel which probably accounts for the late situ. As far as the hotel itself is concerned, it was brilliant. Spotlessly clean, great staff, lovely room, quiet position, comfy beds, convenient location.
Sol Pelicanos Ocas

We stayed as a family of 4 in the ocas building for a week at the end of June. I was really worried after reading so many negative reviews before we came. I’m hoping this review will help other families find out the info I was looking for. The room had no balcony, which having 2 small children I don’t mind so much, but there was hardly anywhere to dry off the towels and swim stuff for the 4 of us and the room constantly smelt damp due to the wet clothes. Inflatables and toys are allowed in the ocas pool but not the pelicanos. Anytime you need to go to reception the queue takes forever, there is not enough members of staff on for the size of the hotel. Breakfast is fine but dinner is terrible. I’m not fussy and was hoping the bad reviews were from fussy eaters but they were spot on. It’s the same thing nearly every night and things were either under or over cooked. Make sure you get wristbands when you check in, we weren’t given any and I was refused to buy a bottle of water at the pool bar for my kids because I didn’t have a wristband on. No idea why they didn’t give us them at first, had to go through waiting in the reception queue again to get them. The hotel is very noise, doors are really heavy and make such a bang when people just let them shut. The best thing about the hotel is the entertainment team. They were all lovely young people and my kids enjoyed taking part in the activities. There was lots on day and night. That’s the only reason I have given it the 3 stars.

Where to start, We arrived late at night and very tired. Bad points: First off, you have a good 5 minute walk from the drop off point to the hotel entrance. This could be problem for some with the cobbles and uneven surfaces, especially with heavy luggage. There were 3 of us ladies sharing a room. The room we were given was absolutely tiny. Three beds had been squeezed into a tiny double room. So there was absolutely nowhere to stand in the room to get ready without getting in somebody else's way (good job we are good friends!) We were told the next day, when we asked if there were any larger rooms available, that the room was given to us, as we had booked through an Agency (On the Beach) and not direct. Made us feel a bit like 2nd class citizens. And the holiday was not cheap! The shower attachment was broken on arrival. (But promptly fixed once we notified the Reception.) Breakfast was ok, nothing special. Our tiny balcony (no room for chair or anything, more like a Juliette ) was dirty and had bird poo on it. It looked straight into somebody's kitchen and an alley below. So not a pleasant space at all. I am not sure how we missed it, probably as we had looked at lots of hotels, but there is no pool or Jacuzzi on the sun terrace. This was a major disappointment for us, but not the hotels fault. You had to pay to use the safe in the room. Reception staff not very welcoming or helpful (apart from one named Diana who we met on our last day). Good points: Fabulous location - right in the centre of the old town and close to the beach Comfortable beds Room was very clean (not balcony as mentioned above) Bathroom was a good size with a hot shower

Arrived at 11am room not ready until 2pm. Don’t understand why early flights are available if you can’t check in on arrival. Left luggage in an unlocked luggage room. Once in room it was great. 8th floor and could see the sea. Air con worked fine and beds were so comfortable. Shower wasn’t very powerful and the temperature didn’t seem to regulate very well. For a hotel on the ***** there was no noise in the room when you shut the doors which meant you got a good nights sleep. We were all inclusive and the food was really nice. Can’t fault it at all. Bar area was a nice place to have a couple of drinks before heading out for the evening. All hotel guests were chatty and friendly. The pool is shallow which suited me as I normally only dip in and out to cool off. The pool area could be lovely but the sun loungers really let it down. They are old, saggy, dirty and worn out. Most dip in the middle and you feel like you’re gonna fall through. When looking down from the balcony it looks tatty and all the sun-beds are stained compared to the ambassador opposite it’s a real let down as there pool area is stunning. New loungers would make a massive difference. I think I would stay again as I like this area of Benidorm but they definitely need to sort the sun-beds out.

Transfers do not drop at hotel you will be dropped at montemar if you are having a coach, taxi will get to the hotel just fine. Check in was quick and easy, door card situation is a tad confusing as it is a QR fob with directions on how to lock and unlock written on every door, was not sure if door was locked while in the room as when you pulled the door from inside it open regardless how many times you turned the lock. First impressions of the room were for a cheap price you can’t complain, it’s very dated but has everything you need. Beds were comfortable but very loud if you moved about. (room 309 made this issue slightly more amplified several times) The bathroom was quite dark only one light working in there, shower over bath with good water pressure and easily adjustable temperature. The bath was low so easy to get in and out of however no plug so you couldn’t have a bath if you wanted to. There is a small lift to all floors which is good, I was on the second floor the stairs were a quicker option for me personally but the lift ideal for PRM. There was some building work on one of the days in the restaurant which was quite loud but understandable it’s off season so can expect maintenance to be carried out. Staff were friendly, they will come help you with the door situation if you are confused. I stayed room only didn’t try any food or drinks at the hotel as there are plenty of restaurants and bars close by. Small balcony on the rooms at the front with 2 chairs no table or ash tray if you smoke. Plenty of storage and hangers there is a safe in the room. No fridge in room which would be the only room amenity I would add. Small tv on the wall I think only Spanish channels I didn’t really take time to watch it only had the radio on while getting ready. For what I paid (£25pn) I cannot complain about anything other than the noises from the room above but I’m pretty sure wherever you were in the hotel you would have been able to hear this. Ideal for a cheap last minute short break.
