Kasbah Tizzarouine

A very nicely designed hotel with a beautiful swimming pool area. The rooms are furnished and decorated in a stylish but understated Moroccan tradition. The staff are kind, welcoming and helpful (as so often in Morocco). My quibbles are small but occasionally discomforting, and in a good hotel, one would not expect these inconveniences. 1. No water glasses in the rooms, not even tooth mugs. 2. The air-conditioning was either broken or deliberately fixed at 24 degrees - not very cool, and quite muggy in an enclosed space. 3. There was no internet anywhere save at reception. If you are in need of space, comfort and service, I recommend this Kasbah. If you want internet 24/7, go elsewhere.

We stayed for one night as part of a tour, we were a little apprehensive given previous comments but we were pleasantly surprised. The bed was comfortable and the shower decent. The view off the cliff was very nice, contrast of mountains and lush green art below. We walked down the hill approx 800m-1km and ate hour in a rooftop restaurant but I understand evening buffet was available at the hotel. Breakfast was ‘OK’ and in a buffet spread, it filled me up and consisted mainly of bread / cereal and cake. For me the location and view was the best part of the stay and for this I would say I enjoyed the stay.

Gearriveerd in hotel Kasbah Tizzarouin, een groot complex aan de rand van het stadje Boumalne Dadès (ca. 12.000 inwoners, voornamelijk Berbers). Het hotel is gebouwd tegen een uitloper van het Atlasgebergte, met uitzicht op de Dadès Vallei, daarachter begint de Hoge Atlas. De vallei is dichtbegroeid en langgerekt. Kasbah Tizzarouin is zo te zien in de 70-er of 80-er jaren gebouwd, dus niet erg oud. Zwembad aanwezig, ook geschikt voor kinderen. De kamers bevinden zich op terrassen op twee of drie niveau's. Onze kamer is een soort imitatiegrot. Piepklein en met rijk gedecoreerd meubilair, in Berberstijl. Veel bling-bling, goudbeslag, imitatie halfedelstenen. Ruime badkamer, tenminste zo groot als de kamer zelf. Voor de kamer een terras met uitzicht op de vallei en het Atlas-gebergte. De badkamer is typisch Marokkaans, dwz alles hangt los, wc-pot schommelt, douchekop verkalkt .. zoals in de rest van Afrika heeft men weinig gevoel voor onderhoud. Gammel tuinmeubilair. Maaltijden "voedzaam maar eenvoudig". Ondanks de leeftijd van het hotel hangt hier ook al de sfeer van vergane glorie. Maar best prettig voor één of twee nachten. Betrekkelijk dicht bij het stadje, waar echter wenig te beleven is.
