Gavimar Cala Gran Hotel and Apartments

Booked this hotel with a couple of friends, we all had our own rooms the price we paid we thought was very good. We were all inclusive, which worked well. The rooms are were exactly what you would expect from a 3 star hotel in Majorca, basic, but clean and functional. They were cleaned and tidied every day. We thought the idea of a chip in your wristband for your room key was a clever idea, you could never get locked out of your room. You also swiped your wristband when entering the restaurant and when being given alcohol from the bars. The food again was what you would expect form a 3 star, all acceptable and we thought there was plenty of choice. There are 3 pools at this hotel, but one has been shut for a long time and the other 2 are quite small and all week we never managed to get a lounger around the pool which we assumed was the main pool by the entertainment area. We always used the pool by the grassed area. Evening entertainment was good fun on a couple of evenings when the staff did the quiz, It was a right good laugh, the entertainment staff work so hard. As do all the staff that work here, big shout out to kelly at the main bar, always a smile and friendly, and to Daniel at the pool bar. (buenos dias mi amigo como estas) I feel sometimes people expect a 5 star hotel for 3 star prices, you get what you pay for in my opinion. we liked the hotel being close to the beach, which is literally a 5 min walk through the underpass.. We enjoyed our week here, even though the weather was not brilliant. Would we stay again? Maybe one day.

Shocked by the poor state of the apartments - shabby, dated, many areas mould in bathrooms, unsafe consumer unit, broken plug, broken furniture. Site is generally run down. Most of the food is poor too. Ok it's 3 star but is basic safety and cleanliness too much to ask?! One star for the comfy beds for 4 of us. The "sofa bed" is a wooden unit with a cushion on it. A woeful lack of investment by the owners. Surprised Jet2 et al are risking their reputation by sending clinets to this group. Requested a transfer on arrival. This was hugely stressful. It took many phone calls, messages, and tenacity. Move came at a financial cost too, and took until day 5 of a 10 day holiday.

We are currently on our last night here and after reading the reviews I was quite worried about coming. If you have got a cheap package deal then this hotel is fine. The location is perfect, a two minute walk from the beach and you are right on the town which has lovely restaurants and bars. The room we were put in was very basic and had a funny smell. The room itself is very small however for 4 nights it was fine. The breakfast was very poor there a quite a few different options but the quality is bad. Lunch was the same, serving the same options each day, the snack bar was reasonable serving good burgers and chips. The range of drinks and ice creams was good. However, we did choose to eat out two evenings of our stay due to the poor quality of food for our evening meal. There are two pools and the entertainment team were excellent with a range of activities on during the day and evening. They would get a 5 star rating. Sun loungers and space by the pool is also an issue. Cala d’or itself was stunning and the location is excellent however please do not expect a 4 star holiday staying here.

Just returned from a great week at the Gavimar Cala Gran. Location is fantastic as beach and main ***** a brief walk away. Food was great, very clean and bed changed etc every day. Great entertainment in the evening and always got a sun bed when we wanted. Rooms a bit small and €40 plus for a safe and local taxes a bit steep but on the whole loved it.

We have just returned from our 3rd stay here as a family of 3 our daughter is currently 10. The location is fab, right on the beach and also in the town so you can visit the shops, bars, kids areas etc too. The staff really make the hotel what it is, we were delighted to still see sunny in the restaurant and the same staff on reception and in the bar area. They are hardworking, lovely and really take the time to talk to you and make your holiday special. The entertainment team were amazing, they put on a variety of activities in the day for adults and kids to take part in.Our daughter did most of them and had a great time trying out new things. In the evening they put on the kids disco which all the kids enjoyed and then their was something different on each night, the staff worked really hard to make sure all guests were included and to make each one such fun that you couldn’t help but join in. Thank you Even when they see you in resort and weren’t working they would make an effort to have a chat . The beach is beautiful with a small shop, bars and toilets located around it too, but it does get very busy. The town has a variety of shops, restaurants and bars and there is a kids area with trampolines & inflatables in the evening. The train that runs around the island is a lovely way to have a look around and see the harbour. The food was really good, we all eat different sorts of foods and always left full, there’s a good variety out everyday and it’s much better now the restaurant also does lunch, but you can get constant snacks at the pool bar anyway. There’s a good choice of drinks in the all inclusive, the euro for a cup which you get back is fine but can be a bit of pain sometimes and the ques in the bars in the evenings could be quite big, but the staff were lovely and would teach my daughter some new Spanish words each evening, which she loved. The rooms are quite basic but are clean and have everything you need, we had a sea view which was lovely. All the areas in the hotel are clean and tidy. The only thing was that we had tea and coffee making facilities but no where to put any milk so could do with a small fridge, the air conditioning also wasn’t the best. It is quite a noisy hotel with lots going on, our balcony was also over the smoking area so people were often out there making noise till quite late and then staff out cleaning early on. Also one of the pools was closed and by the look of it had been closed for a while so that did mean that some days, if you weren’t in the early morning que you couldn’t sit by either of the other 2 pools, no one seems to know why it was closed. Also the pools are now fenced off in an evening, which is great but the one at the pool bar where all the entertainment is, is left open with all the children running around it in an evening which was a concern for me when my daughter was smaller. 6 of us came for a girls holiday and we loved it! Being a young group we did worry we may cause disturbance to others after reading reviews, but we found that the staff and other customers didn’t mind at all, and we were welcomed warmly! we could have music on in the rooms and stayed up late with no complaints. We aren’t a rowdy group but not quiet either! Large hotel with loads of pools with only one of which was not open due to it being near the dining hall. Entertainment team were absolutely amazing, even though we are all older teens, we really enjoyed the sports activities and also the helpfulness of the entertainment staff! Shout out to Alexander, Niels, Zoe and Aitor! They have lots of activities from early morning till late evening and catered for all ages, and the staff were so friendly and accommodating! The rooms were clean and had more than enough space, we booked studio rooms for three people in each one and we were comfortable, the air conditioning wasn’t the best however, the reception offered fans for us! Reception staff were incredibly helpful as well as bar staff, especially the lady on the pool bar (forgot her name) and the lifeguards, especially the blonde lady! The pool can get busy, however, there’s more than enough sunbeds, just as long as you can find a space to place them! One thing to mention is the child’s pool is saltwater, but not as salty is the sea. Food wasn’t the worst, but could be improved, we have a nut allergy and a vegetarian in our party and found that things were not labelled correctly, so both had to skip out on quite a few dishes that they may have been able to eat if labelled correctly. A pizza labelled four cheese did have meat in it, and deserts were not labelled for nuts, but other than that the food was okay, but we do understand it is a three star hotel! The all inclusive drinks were great! The six drink limit isn’t in the area which was a nice surprise! You can only get two drinks at a time, but it wasn’t really much of a problem as the bars are close to the pools! All inclusive drinks and at 11, but you can still buy drinks after. Cups are a euro but you do get that back when you hand it in at the end, and the dining hall has glasses! Staff in the dining room did get annoyed at us for moving a table inside but was easily fixed, however, don’t move the tables inside as you will get dirty looks from the staff. There is other the options for lunch, in the bar area that are toasties and by the pool we had burgers for lunch, which was a nice change from the dining hall! We weren’t able to extend checkout because they were fully booked, but they provide a shower room and let you use the facilities while you wait for your transfer which we thought was really nice as our transfer wasn’t until 5 pm. And again reception, bar and entertainment staff kept us busy! Location was great many bars and restaurants nearby, as well as only being a two minute walk from the beach! Thank you again to all the
