Hotel 2 Bintang di Carmel-by-the-Sea

There are MANY cute Inns & Hotels in Carmel by the Sea. There are not any ”new” major chains. That is one of the quaint things about the town - no chain restaurants or hotels. We chose the Hofsas based on family recommendation. My wife and I reserved a King Room with a ”territorial view”. We also reserved a ”family suite” with a small kitchen for our Adult kids and their partners. We stayed 3 nights in early February 2024 while visiting for a family wedding. I was happily surprised to find that our King room's private deck with 2 chairs gave us a glimpse gorgeous view of the Pacific Ocean in the distance. The family suite had no view (on the first level), but was very spacious, with 2 bathrooms, a bedroom with a King Bed and a studio with 2 queen beds and a kitchen combined. The free breakfast is limited - but works as a starter: fresh fruit, yogurt and pastries + a small or large carafe of coffee, and a glass of orange juice. (I prefer this kind of continental to have really bad scrambled eggs and low quality bacon). The rooms show their age for sure, but the prices reflect that, and the rooms are clean and beds comfortable. The views from the 3rd and 4th floors are awesome, and most rooms seem to have a private deck. Excellent maid/cleaning service. Everyone we encountered was super friendly and helpful. Yes you may hear your neighbors - pick the 4th floor if you want to avoid having anyone directly over you. We fortunately did not have loud neighbors during our visit.

非常愜意的酒店，坐落在卡梅爾鮮花小鎮。非常方便，小巧玲瓏，停車方便。非常棒！

We booked this place hoping it would be one of the many, very smart independent motels you find throughout CA. Check in was painless and easy. We got a great patio as we had paid for a sea view but it did mean we were around the side of the hotel. The patio doors were surprisingly insecure - held by a small bolt. The room itself was surprisingly small (two double beds), particularly with the fireplace in one corner. The lack of a desk was a shame and we had hoped the room would be smarter/have more character. The bathroom was also relatively small. The beds were very comfortable. Remarkably when we got ready for bed we discovered that the room has no AC - not even a fan! We called reception and they said all the free-standing fans had been given out for the night. We managed to get one our second night but couldn't believe the lack of AC in California - the hotel is older but not so old as to not offer this. The pool was well located and of a good size. However, having been advertised as heated to 80 degrees I would say it was a lot colder. The pool hours (9am-7pm) were annoyingly restrictive, but not uncommon for outdoor pools and explained by the fact that some hotel rooms were right outside it! Breakfast was very poor - a grab and go bag with water, a piece of fruit and an unappetising, dry pastry - which forced us to go elsewhere. Overall given the range of choice and competition in Carmel, and the reasonably high room rate, we were left disappointed. The hotel lacked the character we had hoped for and needs to up its game where AC and breakfast are concerned. We would look to stay somewhere else if we returned to Carmel.

酒店位置相當不錯，就在主街上，不管去海邊🏝️還是逛街都非常近（幾百米的距離），周邊更有很多特色餐廳、畫廊、工藝品店…不過需要提個建議，酒店雖然包早餐，衹是基本上都是冷的，雞蛋還是包裝產品。

Great location in the middle of everything, close to the beach, the hotel is in a quiet area. Hotel was clean and had everything we needed. Plenty of parking, walking distance to everything. The only downfall I’d say is there is no air, so it was kinda hot at night even though we tried keeping the window cracked. The ceiling fan would’ve helped a lot but it automatically turns off after a certain time so we had to get up in the middle of the night turning it back on.

Thought it was time to redress the balance after a couple of bad reviews by people who hadn’t actually stayed here. TripAdvisor ought to delete them really. We passed through on 4th July for the night. Nice to be made so welcome on the day you were celebrating getting rid of us Brits! Lovely staff who answered every question we had and a nice little suite of rooms in which we were very comfortable. 🇺🇸🇬🇧

Stayed here for one night on a Choice redemption. Carmel is an expensive city, and I appreciated having a points option available amidst exorbitant rates at the inns and motels around the cities. I stayed in a nicely furnished King room that was modern. The bathroom had strong water pressure. The property was well-located and walkable to downtown. The breakfast options were run-of-the-mill with average coffee. I appreciated the friendly service from the stay-in manager who was also able to hold my bags while I was away at an event. I hope the Comfort Inn sticks around as an option, especially for international travelers who have loyalty points but are shocked by Carmel's high prices.

Posting the same review I wrote for YELP If you have kids this is probably one of the only places in downtown Carmel by the Sea to stay so there's that. My family and I stayed here for a few nights back in April and had some issues that we reported to the staff and emailed the manager about and basically got zero help from them so I decided to finally post a review here. Upon check in we found leftover items in the fridge which showed that housekeeping doesn't actually clean much. There was not weather ***** on the bottom of the entry door which not only allowed heaps of dirt to enter the tile floor and turn our feet black, but also allowed for us to hear the very loud leaf blowing that took place early the next morning. It sounded like the leaf blower was happening inside our room which woke up my 4 year old and 3 month old baby. Let's see what else...there was a huge loogie that was sitting in the drain of the bathroom sink, soap scum on the corners of the shower and light bulbs burned out. When we were checking out we were hoping to talk to the front desk about our issues but no one was at the desk so we called afterwards and explained our situation. They told us to email the manager which we did, we were asking for a partial refund mainly for the lack of cleaning but the manager never responded so maybe they wills see this! For nearly $600 spent, I don't think it's outrageous to expect a room to be cleaned. Save your money stay somewhere else! Customer service is lacking, cleaning was abhorrent and clearly management doesn't care about guests and just wants $$. If you have kids, spend your hard earned money elsewhere and just deal with the traffic to get into town. This place is NOT IT and they DON'T CARE about their customers.

We received a complimentary ‘upgrade’ to the Kitchen Suite. This ‘suite’ is literally the kitchen of a former home with very minimal renovations to make it look like a hotel suite. The whole suite was just very chopped up. Huge full kitchen, tiny bedroom and very strange bathroom. No care was put into the decor in fact I think it was still decorated when it was lived in as a home. In the morning we had no hot water to shower. No one at the front desk until 8am. Called the overnight service line and woke someone up. She told us to wait until 8 when someone would be there. We needed to be on the road by 7am. Finally a knock on the door and she said it was fixed. Still no hot water and the girl said she didn’t know what was wrong. Waited until 9 for the office manager who was told another guest lost power all night. She came in to the ‘kitchen’ and reset the fuse box for the building. We were supposed to spend 2 nights. Luckily we were refunded for the 2nd night. Also - It is not walking distance to the town. Would have scored a 1 but the office manager felt very bad and easily refunded us.
