YHA Cheddar

Lovely clean hostel. Lovely staff. Comfy lounge area. Warm friendly atmosphere. Sheets were sparkling white. The location was just a bit out of the centre of cheddar, about five minutes walk from the Tesco’s express. And easy stroll to the local pub. It was about a 10 to 15 minute stroll to tourist cheddar.

The hostel itself seemed nice. Beds clean and comfy and up to yha standards. It was disappointing to not have a sink in the room with the only place to brush your teeth being the one toilet that serves the entire floor. The toilet was very small and smelly so it felt really unsanitary to brush teeth in there. Especially after everyone has don’t their mornings business! Gross. For this reason we probably won’t return.

Really impressive as we have not used the YHA Before and if the Cheddar hostel is the Standard of all the rest we will definitely try them. Good facilities very helpful and pleasant staff we enjoyed our 2 night stay

Worst hostel ever. Iv traveled the world and never been treated in such a petty way and talked down to as if I was a child. The manager had the cheek to confiscate the dregs of bottle of wine and two unopened beers from our personal food supply in the fridge. We’re were not in any way having a party or being Leary. They could have notified us if they had an issue but they simply stole our items and left a note in the kitchen to try to humiliate us. I was simply with my wife and 2 year old trying to have a restful weekend. This incident was after I had complained about being woken up at 1pm by other drunk guests placed in the family rooms annex banging on our door which woke our baby up until 4pm in the morning depriving us of a nights sleep. No discretion was taken at all and they had the cheek after taking our drinks to try to sell us their own alcohol. No thanks! They must be failing badly if they have to revert to such childish tricks. Worse still I arrived 45 minutes before check in time after a 4 hour drive and the same manager wouldn’t even let me or my wife and baby use the toilet. This same manager felt it necessary to call me prior to arrival and state strictly the arrival times for check in making it clear there was zero flexibility on this this issue. I wouldn’t have minded that so much if the hostel was fully booked but it simply wasn’t. This is not a hostel to bring your young family as the manager will personally harass and micro manage your actions even to the point of rifling through your own food supplies if you’re self catering. Zero regard for your dignity as a paying customer. Stay well away and dodge this bullet if you want to have a restful time in cheddar best to go elsewhere.

Stayed for 2 nights with our junior rugby team. Staff wonderful. Helpful and friendly. Hostel really clean. Room 7 was a big room with en suite and spacious, this wasvthe disabled room i think, other rooms were as you'd expect, just bunks for a base. Food really good, fresh salads with evening meal and freshly cooked breakfasts, the ladies did well for us. Separate kitchen to use for prepping your own food or drinks. Great location, Tesco express not far at all, although the hostel.sold drinks and snacks too. For a hostel it was great, couldn't have asked for more. Thank you for a fabulous stay with all the lads.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The whole hostel has a very high standard of cleanliness everywhere. The kitchen was well equipped for self catering. From the hostel it is a short walk into Cheddar which has a choice of two supermarkets and a good choice of restaurants should you wish to eat out.
