Historical hotel in a good area of Chicago. Check in staff is very helpful and pleasant. Good gym and big pool to exercise and many restaurants and pubs around which are very convenient

This is a historical hotel in Chicago, love it very much. I love their restaurant & bar, good atmosphere and serve with good foods (see my pictures). I will definitely choose this hotel again by the next time to Chicago

Excellent hotel, from every point of view. I will stay again in it, no doubt. Breakfast was superbly good. And all the people at the hotel, from the front office to the luggage storage, provided an amazing service. Kudos to you Hyatt and your people!

The location is great. The cleanliness of our room was fantastic. I asked for a luggage cart to be at the room at x and the front desk said I needed to call for the cart. Really? It took over 15 minutes for a bellhop to arrive at 6:45 in the morning. There is an additional $25 a day charge that is not disclosed at booking. The coffee costs more than Starbucks...? We bypassed getting our room cleaned for two days. On the 3rd it was never addressed. Staff said ... oops. It used to be THE hotel to stay at in Chicago. The last two nights teenagers were running around unsupervised and making noise until security was called. Probably not going back, so sad.

Let's start with the check-in. Since we got into Chicago early (9am), we had to wait till 2pm to check in. the hotel was nice enough to keep our bags for free. However, given it would be a walk around downtown for a few hours, we had to repack our backpack. unfortunately during the repack, one of our passports dropped onto the lobby floor. after an hour of panic, as we only discovered the loss at lunch, we got back to the hotel to ask if it was turned in. The check-in person basically just brushed us off by opening a couple of drawers and said he knows nothing. After we got into the room, we called downstairs (Guest Services) to ask for slippers (which they don't have) and also asked about the passport again and they again said no. our last ditch effort was just to give Guest Services our room number and name and ask them to call if and when it is found. Within 5 mins of the our call, a different person called up and said they do have our lost passport. A bit strange that a found passport is given much priority especially when the passport name matches our reservation name. Also at check-in, I overheard another guest was staying 2 nights and heard that they were told that for 2 nights, there might not be a room cleaning as they only clean 'every other day'. For us, we stayed 3 nights and there wasn't any cleaning attempted. I wish they would have told us of this arrangement beforehand and we would have priced this into our calculation. For the room, the carpet was quite dirty and had sticky wet spots on them. We had to place our bed covers down on the floor so that we don't get sticky feet. The A/C was working very well but it just wasn't well designed. There was only a single outlet vent and it was at waist level and blew directly onto one of the 2 beds and it was very loud and came on very periodically. To be fair, we never reported any of these in-room issues as we just didn't want to be bothered moving rooms. The laundry service was somewhat of a bonus as it is free. however, it is at a different location and there was only 1 washer and 1 dryer (for the whole of 2 hotels). Luckily when I wanted to do laundry, it was available. The washing was fine (around 25mins) but the drying was at least 90 mins. Guess when something is free, it cannot be that good. On final day check-out, we were given a late check out which is appreciated.

I visited this hotel with my girlfriend and it was a good experience as it was close to downtown and close to several convenient areas.

After taking a friend’s recommendation to change our hotel booking from the RI Chicago Downtown/River North as it’s a newer property, closer to the action, and their family friend is the GM — we happily did so about a week before my daughter’s 11th birthday weekend trip over Canadian Thanksgiving/Chicago marathon. Especially because there was a 2-bedroom suite for our family of 4 which was a huge win at $1000USD per night. Recognizing there would be a higher chance of winning the lottery this weekend than having a hotel room ready for early check-in, I still called en route from the airport as I always do, and also as a courtesy to let them know we’re on our way and will require concierge services to store our bags in the meantime. The front desk manager Andrew answered the call and very abruptly and rudely said with a scoff “Your 2-bedroom suite is our most in demand room so no, it’s not going to be ready early.” Just the way in which he said it took me aback a little but I’d just come off a flight, maybe I was tired so I shook it off. He then proceeded to use the same dismissive tone when I asked two follow-up questions: “When is our room expected to be ready then?” — “Normal check-in time, 4pm.” “Is there somewhere my girls can change and freshen up from our flight?” — “No there’s nowhere for your kids to change here.” I found that response a bit bizarre so I rephrased it: “You mean, there’s not even a lobby washroom that we can use to freshen up from our flight in?” - “Well, you can use the bathroom if you want to. I’m just saying we don’t have change rooms or anything set up for you to change in.” My husband and I have both been in the sales and service industry, albeit finance, for over 20 years. There’s not much that bothers us, or would compel us to write a review to share a negative experience. I will always make sure that I give someone the grace to course correct, as I would hope someone gives me, if I have acted out of character or said something or done something to hurt someone’s feelings. Whatever Andrew was going through that day, the immediate impact of his words was taking the wind right out of our sails for an exciting and special birthday weekend within minutes of arriving in Chicago. So I reached out to the GM Tommie Van to express exactly this point - that tone matters. Words matter. Tommie assured me he would take care of rectifying the situation and when we checked in at 4pm, the girls would be “elated” about what the hotel was going to set out for us. After a day touring Chicago, we arrived back at the hotel at 5:45pm, exhausted, and giving them additional time for our rooms. As the two-bedroom suite on this property is two adjoining rooms - only one room (the girls bedroom with two double beds) was ready. The main room (one-bedroom suite with dining area, kitchen, etc) was not ready and we would get a call later on. A historic hotel with accessible prices if you get a discounted offer. It’s a shame they don’t offer breakfast but the location makes up for it, right on the magnificent mile. Our room was confortable but the A/C unit was too noisy.

I would spend my money elsewhere. Yes, this hotel is in a nice location, and yes, the rooms were nice. That's about it. I was quoted a price for a room that INCLUDED taxes and fees. The customer service representative confirmed twice with me that the rate included taxes and fees, and then we checked out, and taxes and fees were added to what we were told was the total charge. The manager tired of looking into it I guess after one attempt, because she wouldn't listen to my second call with customer service to rectify the issue. Also, the ”rooftop” bar on the 4th floor allows DJs to play blaring music until all hours of the night. There was a wedding the weekend we were there, and we called the front desk who said there was nothing they could do and the music would stop by 3. So, in a hotel, where you go to rest, we were just told to deal with it and I guess not sleep. This is a HOTEL that happens to have a bar. It is not a bar, and I would expect better consideration for guests who are good money to stay here. My room should not have had the windows shaking from the music. Also, we asked to speak to a manager and were told there would be no manager until Monday. What hotel has no manager on duty on the weekends when most people are staying? They did give us half off our room for the night, but it would be better if they would require private events to end at a more reasonable hour considering they are a hotel or tell DJs they have to turn the music down at a certain point. Finally, when housekeeping came by, we were getting ready to leave for the day. We asked them to come back around 12:30 to make up the room, and they wrote it down and never came back. We got some fresh towels, but the garbage was left and the beds were not refreshed. I can get better service and a better experience for a much better price at another hotel, which I will do next time.
