I surprised my wife with a weekend at Rhinefield House after reading reviews on Trip Advisor and it certainly didn't disappoint. Being a significant Birthday I wanted it to be special so contacted the hotel and was put in touch with Annette, from this point organising the weekend, including getting some friends booked in was so easy. Annette was so helpful, quick to respond to emails and gave some great ideas it culminated in a truly relaxing and special time. The hotel is beautiful and set in lovely grounds. The room was spacious and the team had gone to the trouble of decorating with balloons, banner, a signed card and cocktails which was a lovely surprise. We spent the majority of our time in the bar and restaurant, all of which were fantastic with very attentive staff. Unfortunately the spa was going through maintenance, which can't be helped, which meant the water was cold, but the facilities were nice and if warm would have been relaxing. My wife and I had treatments and these were brilliant. The forest is on the door step and I went for a run before breakfast, there are a couple of routes which loop you back to the hotel for an interesting 5km. Thank you to everyone at the hotel, we will certainly be coming back!

A Second Edition Review since it upset the owners. I called in for a drink and a bite of lunch with the intention of booking a stay. I wandered into the lounge/bar which was unattended and remained so for further 10 mins until a staff member appeared and who registered that I was not a guest, I had not come from the Spar, and that I wanted lunch. 5 mins after that a waitress appeared, who also registered that I wanted lunch so she took my name and drinks order. Drinks arrived and waited another 40 mins for someone to take a food order. I searched the area for staff and found two semi naked women in dressing gowns wandering the lounge floor also looking for staff and a bite to eat. So I told them of my experience thus far, wished them luck, poured my drink into a pot plant and walked out. This “luxury” hotel has just undergone a major refurb, charges £265 a night, and if I was a paying guest I’d have been livid. This establishment is simply NOT geared up for lunch, its staff are spread too thin and required to cover too many public rooms. I have stayed here before, and the old habits keep reoccurring with guests having to locate staff for service. Clearly, the manageress, who was on duty, needs to walk her rounds and check on guests, and there also needs to be a bell or call service in the bar and lounge, so guests can call for service instead of waiting around, or worse having to find staff. My message to the owner/manger, is the same message I put to ALL the New Forest Hotels, and that is to take a look at the dismantled ruins of the Lyndhurst Park Hotel, which I regard as a monument to Hotels that get it wrong. This Hotel used to tick all boxes as a great winter retreat, with Mulled Wine in the Lounge, A local game menu that complimented the main menu, an extensive wine list, and an open fire in the Lounge. It’s now a retreat to cater for Londoners at London prices and has lost its charm and atmosphere as a Country Hunting Manor.

Very warm welcome by Mauricio. Lovely cake and cup of tea. Our room was Verderers which is on the ground floor. Room and especially the bathroom very old fashioned. Lovely toiletries, locally sourced. The bed was so soft and springy it was extremely uncomfortable. On our first morning we went to have a shower but the water flow was so low the button on the taps to convert it to a shower would not stay up and the water flow kept stopping. It was impossible to have a shower. We reported the issue to Mauricio who could not understand it as we were next to the pump room and he stated he would look at it during the day. The next morning it was just the same so we started to run the bath at 7.45am and by 8.05 there was about 5 inches of water. Just about enough for a bath. To rinse my hair I had to hold the button on the taps with one hand and the shower head with the other for the slightest trickle of water. Not good enough. As other guests have said breakfast was extremely good but dining room cold on both mornings, no radiators on. Coffee could not have been weaker! Jam and marmalade were served in a tiny paper cup, no jars on table as shown in photos on website. It just felt as if money was being saved at every turn. We would definitely never return nor could we recommend.
