A lovely venue in a picturesque village. An extremely warm welcome on arrival. Very friendly, relaxed atmosphere in the bar. Room was modern, clean and very comfortable. I arrived very late so missed out on an evening meal but breakfast was great with plenty of options, cooked to order. Would highly recommend. So glad I avoided the big chain hotels.

First time staying at the Bridge Hotel and it is unfortunately likely to be our last. We booked for a bubbly spa break for my birthday. On arrival the lady on reception was lovely and talked us through where everything was. We were very early so went to the bar which was a really nice area. We spent a few hours in the spa which was smaller than I expected but was pleasant. The staff in there were fabulous. The changing rooms are tiny and can fit maybe 5 in them at any one time and not much privacy, particularly if you use the showers. We were given a glass of fizz and given the details of what the spa had to offer. The afternoon tea was also lovely. The sandwiches were fresh and the scones were gorgeous. The only downside was that there was nowhere to sit inside because it was so busy with other guests so we had to sit in the courtyard. Fortunately the weather was pleasant so we were happy to do this. Our room (no 27) was not the best we’ve stayed in. The vanity light in the bedroom area didn’t work. The bed was the most uncomfortable thing I’ve ever slept in. It was like sleeping on bricks. The pillows were the same. To top it off we found a clump of fake eyelashes in the bed and on the side of the bath which was pretty grim. A little TLC was needed in the bathroom as paint was peeling off the ceiling, the basin was cracked, and the shelf under the mirror was falling to bits and in desperate need of replacing. Our room had sloping roof either side of the window. Fortunately neither of us are the tallest of people so it wasn’t as much of an issue as it would be for someone taller. We could also hear the boiler from this room switching on and off throughout the stay. Take ear plugs if you want to sleep. We had a 2 course carvery in our package which wasn’t the nicest we’ve had. The breakfast was good with plenty of options to choose from. One other thing, on signing up to the Bridge Hotel, the states  If you are celebrating your birthday then ‘sign up to our newsletter to receive acomplimentary bottle of Pommery Champagne. We’ll provide you with a complementary bottle to enjoy in our Bar or Restaurant to enjoy at the hotel within 14 days of your birthday’. I had forgotten about it until talking to another guest who was there for a birthday celebration and they mentioned that they had not received it even though they had mentioned they were there for a birthday. Don’t advertise something you are not going to give. We regularly have nights away throughout the year and this is a hotel so have wanted to stay at for a while so we were a little disappointed, particularly as it was a night away for my birthday. Unfortunately there are more negatives to my review than positives which I really don’t like doing but when people are paying hard earned money for a stay or package they need to know the full details. The room is clean and neat, the best thing is pet friendly and location is very convenient, we definitely go back, Remember to bring your own toothbrush

The market town Knaresborough looked an ideal stopping point en route to London by car, just off the A1 and with stunning views from the castle which was a stronghold of medieval kings, across the River Nidd and viaduct. It's also near Mother Shipton's Cave, named after England's most famous Prophetess who lived some 500 years ago during the reign of King Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth I. The cave is her legendary birthplace and near to a geological phenomenon, the Petrifying Well, England's oldest visitor attraction. Sadly, the weather closed in and driving down the rain-soaked A1, allied to an extensive delay because of traffic through Newcastle, meant it was closed when we got there. We had a walk but a chill wind forced us back to the Orchard Club Hotel situated near the centre of town. It's on the main road and easy to spot but finding the car park up a tight alleyway was a pain. We got there in the end. It is Grade II listed and was formerly the Newton House Hotel. Each room is named and styled with a particular fruit as its inspiration. Ours was comfortable if a tad old fashioned for our taste. It had everything you needed and we slept well despite our room overlooking a busy main road rear traffic lights. The breakfast choice was extensive and other guests were using it as a convenient location for touring to places like Fountains Abbey, the largest monastic ruins in the country, York and, of course, Mother Shipton's Cave.

We booked this B&B at very short notice and must say we weren't disappointed. Located in the heart of Knaresborough with car parking very convenient also very local to the many sights, restaurants and bars. The hosts were very welcoming and friendly with a good sense of humour but also very attentive and proficient. The rooms were very well equipped, we're warm and very clean. A very comfortable bed with nice duvets and comfy pillows made for a good nights sleep. Tea and coffee making facilities were available using fresh milk. The complimentary snacks were a nice touch. No road noise. A very warm and clean shower room with good quality towels and complimentary toiletries. For breakfast. A pre order form is requested the previous day with very good choice indeed, breakfast cereals and fresh fruit are available on the morning but we opted for a full English and must say it was one of the best breakfasts I have had in any accommodation, cooked to perfection and locally sourced. Ample supplies of tea, coffee and toast if required. There aren't enough of these little gems being preserved and this is one we will definitely be returning to. A great place run by great people. Can thoroughly recommend.
