HHenricksenA beautiful ryokan that offers a respite from the crowds at the monkey pool. The service was flawless, the food was amazing and the onsen a highlight for my partner. I liked the snow-covered garden and the view of the mountains from my balcony.
Be aware that the ryokan is family friendly so you may be eating your nine-course kaiseki to the sounds of screaming toddlers.
PPengguna TetamuLocated just within 3min from Yudanaka station, Raki Onsenryokan is run by a Chinese family. As a quiet town on its own, no one was tending to the reception when I arrived, after ringing the bell, a lady came down to help with the check in - very straightforward. I believe the family stays in the same building as they said if we ever needed anything, we could just ring the bell at the reception. Obviously I had booked a room too big for a solo traveller as this was the only room left as ”non-smoking”. Toilet and sink are at two different parts of the room which was a little inconvenient. Ryokan offers free drive (15min) TO snow monkey park, but not return, so please cater at least 35min to walk from park exit to the bus stop. Ryokan also provided a hearty breakfast, overall for the price paid it was a decent stay!
PPengguna TetamuWonderful hotel to experience amazing Japanese hospitality. Our family of 4 (2 adults 2 teenagers) stayed in a Japanese style Family room. Each night futon beds were made and in the mornings packed away by staff. The room size was comfortable and has a great view of the ski slopes. I have included a picture of the view from our room with the review. Our stay included delicious buffet breakfast and Japanese dinner. Staff were very helpful and accommodating, enhancing our stay experience.
In terms of location, it is about a 15-20 mins walk to the ski fields, through the old town. Nice walk and very manageable. We’ll definitely love to stay again the next time we get to visit beautiful Nozawa Onsen.
PPengguna TetamuI took my 3 adult children to Japan to experience what my childhood was like growing up there. We went to see Snow Monkey park which was fantastic and then we went to this hotel to experience traditional Japanese life style and the natural hot springs. They have an inside and outside hot spring. We were also served a traditional 7 course meal for dinner and breakfast in our own private room! My children were in awe and they said it was one of the best parts of Japan!
PPengguna TetamuMy review for this place is not as negative as some of the comments on Google or trip and here is the reason why: i stayed in 3 different places in Nozawa osen this trip, this has by far the best value for money, cheapest with private toilet and real onsen. Location is good and the bed / futon was made for me instead of me having to make my own bed in other places and with shared bathroom and no real onsen. This place provided me with hot water and green tea and snack inside the room of which some other places didn’t. There is a dog in the premise and it barks when you first walk in, I think he is notifying his owner of new guest as the old man’s hearing is not good. The dog never barked at me anymore when I go in and out of the premise once I have checked in. The old man doesn’t speak English and he is not the nicest Japanese you will ever meet, but Google translate works fine.
PPengguna TetamuExcellent location next to ski lift at Sun Valley. 3 mins walk to the local bus station with buses going to Nagano Station direct (express service) or Yudanaka station.
Room and bath room (2 basins and 1 sink) are spacious - we had 3 futons and 2 single beds for our family of 5. They may be a little dated but very clean. Room has a view to outside snowy forest during our time.
Highlights of our stay:
Half board meals - authentic Japanese! Big portions and lots of pretty and dishes served! Free coffee everyday in late afternoon.
Service was impeccable - the front desk lady (very friendly and excellent service disposition) , and the elderly folks who served in the restaurant - thumbs up!
PPengguna TetamuWe had a lovely experience at biwaike Hotel. It's a ski in and out and very conveniently located near the sun valley bus stop which helps if you are travelling with luggages. Check in was straight forward. Mr Tokutake who runs the small hotel was very gracious allowing us to get our ski equipment quickly. Passes were easy to get depending on the number of days you plan to ski and the area you want to ski in. Dinner and breakfast were delicious and after a long day skiing, it was wonderful to soak in the onsen that apparently is filled with natural spring water. The room itself is adequate, very big, the futons were comfortable enough. The room was well heated and there are vending machines downstairs to get drinks as well as a small convenience store to get instant noodles, ice cream and snacks.
So happy with my experience there :) the team was gracious, hospitable and we couldn't have asked for anything more.
PPengguna TetamuFirst off, the staff are lovely. Even with a language barrier they were friendly, and the reception man was kind. I've stayed at Villa about 4 times now, but this was the first time in about 11 years. Sadly there is a lot that needs to be fixed. The pricing has increased heavily since I was last here. Whilst it is very close to the ski lifts of Ichinose Family, this is a budget accommodation. But I would still expect it to be cleaned more regularly. The rooms are fine, but the hallways, and common areas look very dated and have paint peeling, cracks showing, carpet is old, worn and dirty, and nothing would imply it is being maintained.
We never had dinner here, but breakfast was a buffet style, and whether it's worth it to you or not is a personal thing.
The convenience store downstairs is only open at night times, and not every day. I remember the restaurant at ground level facing the road served excellent gyoza, ramen and beer. Sadly it's been closed for a while and used as storage.
I don't want Villa to become like the rest of the hotels in Ichinose, only for school groups or super expensive because of their proximity to the ski lifts, but it really needs to have some money invested in the property, replacing old and damaged decor, and carpets professionally cleaned yearly.
But thank you to all the staff for being lovely and kind people.
