The hotel was extremely nice And very clean. We had a queen suite and it was very spacious with a separate bedroom, kitchen and living room area. The bed was very comfortable . We were able to sign into the Netflix app on the tv which was convenient. The shower head was solid with lots of water pressure. The area was nice and quiet. I would definitely book this hotel in the future when visiting the Utica area again. Downtown Utica is about 10 minutes away while downtown New Hartford is about 2-3 miles away which gives you access to many restaurants choices.

I booked 2 rooms at this property (Quality Inn and Suites, New Hartford) via ******* for Oct. 11-13th. We were going to New Hartford for a family reunion. I also recommended others in my family to book there. In total we booked 5 rooms at the property. It is a 3 star property, and we knew that going in. What I didn’t expect was the terrible service and attitude from the staff especially from Vimal Patel. We checked in as per usual. Had a comfortable overnight sleep. I noticed in the washroom there was a sign that said, if we wanted the towels changed, to drop them on the floor and new ones will be left. This signage indicated to me that someone will be entering our room at some point to clean the room, and if they noticed the towels on the floor, they would change it. The signage that we hang on the door asking for housekeeping or do not disturb, stated “do not disturb on both sides”. So I did not hang it outside the door so that the cleaners could enter and clean the room. As we headed out for the morning, I noticed 2 cleaners outside in the hallway. I went and spoke to them and said, when they are cleaning our room, I would like 2 extra towels left. English language seemed to be a barrier to them as they spoke back to me in another language. So, I went to the lady at the front desk and told her that I had requested extra towels from the cleaners when they were cleaning my room, and could she please ensure that they do that. She said ok. When I came back to the room around 2:30 p.m., I saw that the towels had been replaced but not the bath rug and the bed was not made nor the room tidied. Hence, I called the front desk to ask why the room had not been cleaned. I spoke to Vimal Patel. He said in order to have the room cleaned, I should have called the front desk per the notice in the room. I asked what notice and why didn’t they inform of us of this upon check in. This notice I subsequently found is a small one under the TV). Also, I had spoken to the cleaners personally and the lady at the front desk about extra towels when they go to clean the room. He said it was “the law” that they don’t clean rooms unless we call the front desk (I guess speaking to cleaners and front desk does not count.) I asked if I could get a printed copy of “the law”, he got hysterical and started berating me. He then said, if I didn’t like it, I could leave and he would refund the money. I told him I wasn’t going to leave (there were 5 rooms that my family members were occupying while we were in the town and I didn’t want to further inconvenience myself.) however, I would deal with this matter when my stay was over. When we checked out the following morning, I asked for Vimal Patel (Owner/manager I presume) to tell him face to face that I had been unhappy with the level of service, especially from senior management. Hotel in downtown Utica, the hotel itself does show some wear and tear, due for some upgrading of the rugs and some repainting. The room had a strong odor of Fabreez which was a little overbearing when you first entered the room. The bar and restaurant area is rather drab, looks like you are eating in a warehouse and not a hotel dining room. The rooms themselves are a good size and a comfortable bed. There are plenty of outlets for your electronic gear and a good amount of counter space. The bathroom was one simple word, tiny! You could not sit on the toilet and close the door at the same time! The staff itself was very good but spread very thin. There were times when the front desk was not manned for an extensive period of the time. Like all Marriotts there is a nook where you can get essentials and snack, that is the good news. Bad news is it was not well stocked. Keep in mind this is a downtown hotel, the area is rather dead at night. This did not bother us but if you are looking for shopping or other activities this hotel may not be a good choice for nightlife.

This hotel does a decent job of delivering what you expect when staying at a Fairfield. The rooms are clean and sharp, everything looks fairly new, the bed is comfortable, and the breakfast in the morning is just fine for a hotel buffet, though lacks the option range that some have and is not fully replenished throughout the service period. I appreciated that the TV in our room supported streaming (you can login to your Netflix service / etc) -- we used that. I wish that it was more common for a hotel like this to use actual reusable plates/silverware for the breakfast rather than everything throwaway. The breakfast was supposed to be available until 10am, but the staff started packing it up around 9:45. When my girlfriend tried to get breakfast around 9:50, the staff were able to bring a few things back out of the kitchen for her -- but really, if a breakfast will be packed up starting at 9:45, list that as the end time rather than 10am. Checkout time is noon. The housekeeping staff knocked first around 9am (while we were still in bed), then again around 10:30am to see if we had left yet so they could clean. Since we were not checked out of the room yet, this felt a bit like being rushed out. I always prefer it when the housekeeping crew either waits until checkout time or starts first on the rooms where guests have checked out early, so I'm not woken up. I understand that staffing shortages likely make this kind of coordination hard. These are minor issues in the scheme of things. Overall a solidly decent night and a hotel I wouldn't hesitate to stay at again if I was in the area, though probably wouldn't prioritize over other options either.
