The Greyhound hotel has been one of our favourite premises for quite a while. During which time it has changed hands several times. The premises don’t really change but unfortunately the operators do!! My wife and I called in approximately three weeks ago on a Sunday evening, the premises were very quiet. It was cold outside and the previous evening, on Facebook, the hotel published a photo of a log fire with an invite to join them. So we did!! The fire was not lit and, in fact, had not been cleaned out since the previous day. The premises were cold. On our way out I mentioned to the bar man that the fire needed lighting to which he replied that “we have run out of logs but have some more on order”. I then visited the gents toilet to also find that the radiator was stone cold. There was no heating on in the bar area. As we walked to the rear car park we passed the log store which had plenty of stock and was definitely not empty!!! Saving money by operating a cold premises? No doubt!! We again visited the premises this evening 20/12/23. The bar area had no customers but the log fire was lit. Unfortunately, the smoke was not exiting by the chimney and was filling the bar area. We moved to the furthest point away from the fire, finished our drinks and left. Needless to say, I had to check the toilet radiator before leaving and, guess what, surprise, surprise, I was cold!! It would appear that Country Village Inns, the current operators do not accept that hospitality premises need to be warm and welcoming. The Greyhound hotel is definitely not that!! In addition, although we have not eaten here, our previous experience with this operator is that we believe their menu is made up of frozen produce that just needs to be re-heated and served. I think that we need to find another premises to call at!!!
