For many years I have traveled 100 or more days a year. In SEP-OCT 2022, I traveled for a month in Greece staying at 12 hotels (and on an overnight Ferry). Within this context Niriis Hotel was well below average PROS: The room was spacious and with a decently provided kitchen (supermarket food was very inexpensive in Crete) CONS: Niriss Hotel has hostal-type dorms in the ground floor and the private rooms are reach by climbing long and steep stairs. The service by the women attending during the day was very bad. There was not even a hint of help with my luggage. In my 3 night at Niriis, there was NO change of towels and when I asked for one, the woman wanted to charge me several Euros extra. I had to wait for check out (and a young man for check inn) because the attendants did not appear at the posted time. After phoning, the owner appeared for my check out. In contrast to the owner, the regular attendants are rude and useless. Niriis is located several miles from the center of town, so you need a car (or pay exorbitant taxis). The hotel has no parking and the street is too narrow to leave the car, so my rental car slept several blocks away. The hotel is nearby a couple of beaches which were unremarkable. Next time in Xania/Chania, I will not stay at Niriis but instead at a hotel in the old town which is a much nicer area. Parting remarks: Greece is wonderful, except for the touristic islands which were crowded even in October and I may skip them altogether next time. Crete has many attractions and some great beaches but choose carefully your hotels. The Peloponesse resulted better than expected. Athens was safe anytime anywhere I moved, even after midnight. Travel light because not all hotels have elevators (and like at Niriis you will be on your own) and in ancient towns you will climb many stairs and walk over cobblestones. Missing church number 59 was OK, sitting in a café watching people go by and doing nothing was inspiring even for hyper me. I had a wonderful trip.
