I'll start to say that I've used TripAdvisor for more than a decade and had been happy. I'd reserved this room about a month in advance, on 12/22. The stay was for 1/25. There was a big race in town and I booked the room for one night. When I got there, there was no one at the desk, but they had a number to call. One of the work guys got me in the lobby and looked at me kind of funny when I said I wanted to check in. The reason was that they were full, and had been full since November when they stopped taking reservations. The place was full of FEMA folks displaced from hurricanes HeleneMilton since November. The folks at the Beach house were super sympathetic and helpful (even tried to see if one of their 2 other motels had room) but they said I had to call TA. The motel was getting close to a complete redo after hurricane Matthew damaged so many places a couple of years back. It looks like it's going to be a nice, freshly redone older motel, which is something I love over the fancy high rises. I WILL try them again as I only live an hour or so away and like to do a weekend in Daytona to get away. When I called TA, they couldn't help me directly. They had to call a partner to see what went wronng. I was told 5 - 10 minutes. The lady kept checking on me as it was taking longer then expected to reach the partner. Finally, she said she'd have to call me back in an hour or 2 as she couldn't reach the partner. If I couldn't stay at the Beach House, I needed to get myself into another room pronto so I wouldn't miss my race start, which I had been looking forward to for many months. She said she couldn't do anything until she got with that partner. Even if I was a net new booker, she said she couldn't try to find me a room. At this point I asked her if I was even talking to TA. She said I was. She couldn't go to TripAdvisor and find me a room. Nutty. Even if she just handled problems and not bookings, a soft transfer to someone who could help. Finally, we ended the call so i could wait for the callback and try to find a room since I was on my own. This wasn't easy because of the race in town....things were booked pretty solid. I finally used Trip Advisory and found a room in Ormond beach. They did the best they could to get my room ready quickly so I could get to my race. I ended up missing the start by about 45 minutes. I never did get that callback, but did get an email saying they'd refund the charge for the Beach House. Gee, thanks. You weren't going to charge me for a room that didn't exist. You deserve a cookie. They also then provided me a chance at another reservation.....at the EXACT same place where I had already booked a new room. It was a bit more money, but I was in a bind. I asked if they could at least credit me the difference as a little compensation for their mistake and my missing the race start. They replied they could only refund for the original non-room. No kidding, if they had the nerve to try to charge me, my credit ca
