We booked into a junior penthouse suite at the top of the hill. I am interested in architecture, history and culture and the rustic construction with worn and faded materials appealed to us. Our room was about 40 steps up a steep hillside from the main hotel which is about another 50 steps down to the fabulous and secluded beach. We are in our 70s and lucky enough to be reasonably fit so the climbing was not a problem for us even in 30c heat. The suite was spacious with a massive bed, large balcony and effective AC. The bed linen and towels were top quality, changed daily and super clean. The view from the balcony stunning as were the sunsets. Some of the fixtures and fittings are old worn and original but that is the charm of the place. The hotel even offered us a modern room close to the main hotel in case we did not like our accommodation ! I would recommend using your mobile phone torch when climbing the steps back to your room at night. The hotel staff without exception are the most helpful you will ever meet, nothing was too much trouble. We were half board. The evening meal was not the usual buffet but A la carte and very good indeed although the menu was not extensive but that can be a good thing as the meals were cooked fresh. Breakfasts were adequate and the choice commensurate with the size of a small hotel. A good choice of drinks although the wine is very expensive in my opinion about £40 per bottle, it is also expensive in the local shop. Beer and cocktails are good value. I’ve really want to return to this place, the hotel owners are “ hands on’ eat in the restaurant and are friendly and helpful. This is a very special place!
