We opt to stay at the Premier Inn (M5 J29) as it is convenient for seeing family in Exeter. We have stayed at this property/unit many time over the past 4/5 years, and have witnessed gradual decline in the quality of the rooms and the locale. There is a very clear and distinct lack of investment into the property/unit. It is now really tired, old, and dirty; bordering on dreadful. We were given a family room on the ground floor, which smelt of damp on opening the door. It was overpowering. As such, we were given a second room (109), which was terrible. The bathroom extractor fan was broken, so after three bathroom showers, condensation covered every surface of the room. The towel rail was missing, which made drying towels unnessarily difficult. The light around the mirror in the main room was broken on one side which made getting ready more challenging. The hairdryer attachment was broken. The corners of the skirting boards and windows were covered in damp. And finally, there was thick dust around the beds and sofa, which demonstrates a lack of care when cleaning. Experience has taught me that it is pointless brining these issues to the attention of staff, as they are clearly not empowered to effect change or compensate - thats if there are any staff at all. The staff are always friendly enough, but it does raise the question of who in management deems such rooms to be "on brand'. Given the price per night, the state of the hotel is unacceptable. This is a tired brand, that is clearly suffering from a distinct lack of care, investment, and attention.
