Its about 1.2km from the Freiburg Hauptbahnhof. Expect to walk around 20 -30mins. The walkways are all cobbled and therefore it feels rather uncomfortable to drag the luggage for the entire distance. If you like, there is a Tram bus #4 that goes to the city centre- from there its just a short walk to the hotel. The Tram bus stop is on a bridge over the railway. It's a loop service. We decided to walk instead. Head in the direction of the freiburg cathedral- you cannot miss it since it is a very tall structure. The hotel is to the right side. Use Google maps to lead there. Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. We stayed here for 4 nights. The room is spacious and well designed for long term stays. We were given the highest floor (6) and facing the mountain. Fantastic view! I had my morning coffee in the room and it was such a pleasurable experience. We tried the buffet breakfast (€22) and really enjoyed the spread. I particularly liked the smoked salmon. I would recommend the breakfast. This hotel is inside the city centre and very convenient to shop, eat and visit places like the cathedrals. Do note there's a market every morning from 9 to 12 around the cathedral square. You can buy fruits, vegetables, etc. Have your currywurst breakfast from the many stalls there. I would definitely stay at Mercure Freiburg again in my next trip.

My husband and I stayed here during our stay in Freiberg. The hotel's location is very nice among the trees with a great view of the old town below. There were many narrow streets on the way up to the hotel, but it's sparsely populated up there so it wasn't a problem. We mostly came across hikers. The hotel staff was welcoming and the room was comfortable. The hotel could do with a bit of an update as it felt a little stale in design. It may have felt that way because the night before we had stayed in a hotel that was less than two years old. There were some trails nearby that we took advantage of with our dog. I wish we had stayed more than one night to truly enjoy the area.
