We had an issue when we checked in, for a 3 night stay, on Friday as they accidentally gave one of our 2 rooms away. The desk clerk was able to rectify the situation to our satisfaction. When we returned to the hotel approximately 12:30- 1:00 am, after a Packer game Sunday night, our key cards would not work. We parked my 80 year old exhausted sister, who can't walk without a cane, in a chair and one of us went down to the desk to have our room cards re-keyed. That person was told that we were supposed to check out on Sunday and hotel personnel went into our rooms and threw all of our personal property in our bags and stored them in a room behind the desk. Even more concerning to us; the safe inside the locked room, that now had someone else occupying it, still had our wallet, credit cards and jewelry in it. Naturally, we were upset and wanted the desk clerk, Penny, to fix this mess. She insisted we were checked out; so I called my wife, who was sitting with my sister upstairs in the hallway outside her room, down to show her proof that we had confirmed reservations till the next day. By the time my wife arrived downstairs with my sister, the situation was even more ridiculous. All of our belongings were sitting on the lobby floor, our valuables were still in the locked room safe upstairs and we were pretty upset with Penny. She refused to accept any hotel responsibility for this fiasco and also refused to give us other rooms at this late hour saying we were rude to her. We insisted we get our valuables out of our room safe, and she said she would go upstairs and see about it. She came back down a few minutes later, said she'd be right back and went into the back room. She didn't return. We called the police, and apparently she did too saying she felt threatened. We were irate and tired. 3 of us are over 70 years old. We wanted our valuables out of the safe, but we never threatened her. The police arrived, listened to everyone's account of the situation, and went to the room to get our valuables out of the safe. The manager arrived and said our entire stay would be refunded. She said we could have other rooms, but we were so turned off by how this all went down that we repacked our bags and left. We had to drive all the way back to Midway Airport in Chicago at 1:30 in the morning. It is a 4 hour drive. Our flight wasn't till noon. I travel extensively and stay in hundreds of hotels, but I have never been treated like this before. Surely there was a better solution than going into our rooms and handling our personal belongs. I am a Marriott Gold Elite member, so they had my contact information to call me and rectify the matter. Or lock the rooms and wait for me to return to figure it out. Or charge my credit card that they had on file. The way this whole situation was handled was totally unacceptable.
