The Bastion Hotel at Adrianahoeve 8 (there are two Bastion hotels served by the airport shuttle, this is the one that is farther from the airport) was the only hotel available during the busy spring season in Amsterdam. Despite paying about 160 euro per night without breakfast, the stay was anything but friendly and comfortable, colored by the apalling attitude of the reception staff member, Kareem, and the unreliable shuttle service that they advertise as departing every fifteen minutes from the hotel to the airport. While the room itself was passable (motel style), we were yelled at and treated with contempt and indignity at the reception desk by Kareem, one of their staff members. We had simply asked him to order a shuttle bus for us, based on the advice of the reception desk employee the night before (she had said to order it in advance as it was unreliable, and that if it didn't come, the hotel would pay for a taxi to the airport). We calmly explained our reasons for ordering the shuttle service in advance, relaying what we had been instructed the night before by the other front desk staff. He disagreed, and started shouting at us for some unknown reason, showing absolute disrespect to us, as customers. In the end, the evening employee turned out to be right, as we waited one hour for the shuttle bus to arrive the next day, despite asking a different front desk staff member that was on duty that day, to call and check on the shuttle's whereabouts every fifteen minutes. As it was clear the shuttlebus would not be coming, he asked if he should order a taxi, and I agreed, and when the taxi arrived, he told me we would be charged. I told him that the other front desk staff member had guaranteed us that it would be free, if the shuttlebus didn't arrive. While the staff member seemed to listen to us, I do not know if they would have paid or not, as the shuttle arrived at the same time (after one hour) so we took it, while the taxi driver was left standing there without payment. It is apparent that this hotel is extremely poorly managed, and while the other members of the reception staff were not outright rude, as was Kareem, it was clear that they were not trained in customer service, and were overworked, as one of them was preparing breakfast, while trying to check in people, and deal with the shuttlebus nightmare. I would recommend any other hotel or even hostel over this one due to the inhuman treatment we were subjected to by Kareem, as well as the extreme unreliability of the shuttlebus when heading back to the airport from the hotel. I believe the only reason this hotel is in business is due to the demand for hotel rooms in Amsterdam out*****ping the supply of decent, well-served and managed lodgings.
