The welcome when I arrived at the hotel from the Receptionist was pleasant and efficient. The room was ok although the level of housekeeping could be improved. Unfortunately, everything began to go downhill from there. The hotel is incredibly noisy as its sandwiched between a number of main roads but this became the least of my worries! The restaurant next door (a sort of Beefeater under the name of the Comet) is functional but that’s where the positives end. The facility was quiet but it still took ages for a member of staff to pull themselves away from a staff gathering by the kitchen door. My starter was unappetising and looked like it had been thrown together with little care or interest. My main course (which was delivered before my starter had been removed) was dreadful and little more than tepid with soggy almost cold chips that were probably cooked 30 minutes previously. The quality of service is awful and there was an air that nobody seemed to care. At the end of my meal, after patiently waiting at the bar with another customer for more than 10 minutes, I had to extract a member of staff from the kitchen to pay my bill and get my fellow diner served. Nobody seems to care and there is an air of unprofessionalism. Is this really the best Whitbread can offer? I thought breakfast might be an improvement – ha ha! Cold bacon that was barely cooked, anaemic sausages (also tepid) and dry, gritty scambled egg that had been so overcooked! As a point of principle, when trying to write my daily report, the Premier Inn advert promoting their ‘Premier wifi service’ at an additional charge of £5 continued to pop up thus breaking my concerntration. Surely Whitbread don’t need to upsell their service to business users. It’s irritating, unnecessary and distracting. If Whitbread are that desperate, please add £5 onto the cost of the room so we no longer have to suffer the constant promotion. Over this year, I have stayed at a number of Premier Inns and, whilst the prices continue to rise, the standards continue to fall. The restaurants fail to offer healthier food and the quality has diminished. Some time ago I made the decision to stop using Premier Inns for these reasons but, due to the necessity of being in the area, I relented. After this experience, it will a long time before I stay again! DISGUSTING WHITREAD!!
