I booked and paid for a superior room based on your offer, as I have stayed in this room before. However, I was given a shabby, small room, number 14. It seems rooms 14 and 15 are reserved for guests you no longer wish to see. The explanation from the friendly receptionist was that the hotel was fully booked, which was not true. She tried to make up for the situation with a practical gift from Champneys, but the claustrophobic room and the difficulty of accessing it with a large suitcase after a long journey were unpleasant. The hotel incorrectly judged me based on my attire, even though I intended to use their facial massage services, which were very professional, as were their massages and the products they use. Everything that was old seven years ago is now seven years older and even more worn out. Breakfasts are modest but healthy. They could use more fresh herbs, which they once grew in the spa gardens, now overgrown with weeds. Guests leave their plates and glasses on the lawn, and no one picks them up promptly. The spa lacks organization, except on weekends when older women step in to help, solving problems more quickly and efficiently. I am disappointed because it is not fair to deceive customers regarding room types. While the room lacked nothing and was regularly cleaned, it was next to a smelly toilet, and I was promised a superior room but given a standard one, as indicated on the temporary card received upon arrival. However, I must commend the lady who has diligently worked there for 30 years. It would be nice if she were friendly even when not promoting their services. If improvements are not made to the facilities and surroundings, there is no reason for me to return specially after the room switch and no difference in the price.

Absolutely filthy. Cold tubs instead of hot tubs, broken saunas, dirty cups, dirty floors, broken lockers. (A male worker walked into the ladies changing rooms while I was topless getting changed to help another lady use the locker) completely terrible. We have been to 2 other champneys resorts this is by far the worst, we absolutely will not be returning.

Having visited in March as a day guest, I returned this week as an overnight guest and the experience was completely different and absolutely dire. Check in was rushed and the briefest of tours given. They seemed short staffed. New booking system for treatments mean you have to trek back to main Reception to book, yet they are dealing with check ins!! So a long queue. My massage was rushed and not what I'd expected from a spa! Lunch..........what a shocker. Dead fly on the dessert area! All self service and I didn't see the utensils changed. Dinner....service dire! Firstly perhaps you'd like to clear up the crap and rubbish behind your till which your diners see! Dirty tissues, old glasses, chapstick! Grim. Food, inedible. Bedroom, absolutely appalling. We paid for an upgrade but I'd rather have slept in my car. Dirty bedding, dust everywhere (along with cobwebs and dead moths), tatty furniture. We were given a different room, which to be honest had it's faults too. Tatty decor, tatty bathroom, empty tissue box. This is not what I expected for Champneys. Clearly there are issues and to be quite frank find a hotel with a good spa and spend your money there. I'm afraid Champneys, you have lost your way. We came to spend time with you to relax but instead left stressed and disappointed, oh and without an itemised bill as apparently "we have to check our back account to see the extra transactions"

Extremely disappointed by the staff and service in area where buffet is offered. Rude and abrupt as if we are causing hassle. Younger staff were worse and don’t seem to know what they are doing. Drinks come from pre made. They do not check again to see if everything is ok. Not worth the money.

Food, amenities and treatments cannot be faulted. Big THANK YOU to Kim for my radiant massage and Tatiana for my pedicure you done an awesome job on my nails!

Other than a few hiccups at the start of my stay, which were dealt with efficiently and fairly by the Operations Manager, my stay was wonderful. I would like to give special mention to the all the staff who I met with while I was there. It was a real pleasure to see all of them again and long may it continue. Despite their very long hours and very busy schedules each one of them took the time to look after me. A special mention to Gary in maintenance who has always taken the time to talk to my friend and I, despite the million and one things he has to attend to. His friendliness and kindness and that of other staff is what makes Henlow beautiful. Thank you.

My friend and myself had a two night stay with treatments included (it was a 40% off offer) at Champneys Henlow. On arrival we were greeted with a bag, flip flops to keep and a robe. We stayed in a room close to the pool which was OK - rather dated and basic. The layout of the hotel is very confusing - very spread out with some very under utilised rooms. There are two beautiful rooms in the main house with hand painted murals (which feature on the menu covers) - one is used as a reception room and the other for what looked like a meeting room. Why are the most beautiful rooms not for relaxing in? There are some other rooms such as the library which seem to lack any sense of atmosphere - they could be a room you withdraw to after dinner but there is no bar, no music, no games and generally no vibe at all. Even if they just added music and an honesty bar it would make it better. The restaurant is above the swimming pool. The food isn’t great. Breakfast - it’s OK, lots of tinned fruit, no pastries at all, we had to specifically request actual butter instead of Flora. Bread selection could be better. Cooked breakfast was very basic with revolting looking pale sausages. Lunch was a healthy buffet. We were here for three lunches and it was identical each day - a shame really. They had some hot cooked meats, veg and some nice salads. Room for improvement in the salads - eg more seasoning and flavour combinations - some salads very bland. Pudding options at lunch were pretty bad - the Eton mess is about the only decent one, the others are disgusting. Dinners - our first dinner we rated the food as 4/10. Very odd combinations of flavours and wierd presentation. Second night we tried different starters - both terrible again. We opted for steak for the mains which we felt we couldn’t go wrong with. It was good, a 7/10. We went for a cheese board which again we felt we couldn’t go wrong with, other than the fact it was supplemental. The chocolate fondant pudding (again hard to go wrong with) was ok, lacked the real chocolate punch though. Service was sloppy with drinks arriving after our food arrived, some servers were charming, others you could tell didn’t want to be there. The pool is big and lovely with two jacuzzi pools. All facilities for spa were nice. Treatments we had were nice, but not indulgent. There was always an ‘upsell’ at the start. For anyone considering a visit here, don’t bother coming if you haven’t got an offer or you will be very disappointed. I would recommend a day visit but not overnight, the food in the evenings and breakfast really lets it down which is a real shame and something that could easily be fixed with a smaller menu with simpler and better flavour combinations.

So disappointed. Food average, service at lunch and dinner not great, not enough lounge beds for the amount of people there, sauna could only fit 5 people at a time, jacuzzi pools were lukewarm warm at best. Only 4 beds in the Hideaway so again, nowhere to really relax. Ended up in our room ordering takeout! The massage I had was great though and the view over the weir was lovely but room decor dated and felt very much like they are changing top tier prices because it’s ‘Champneys’ but not living up to the reputation of the name

We visited champney spa at Henlow this weekend for my hen do. The spa was beautiful, calming and a very joyful experience. The staff were professional and worked really hard to deliver exceptional service, especially Tommy in the restaurant. The restaurant was very busy with low staff. Tommy was very efficient and did everything he could for us and other customers to make sure we had a good experience even though he was clearly rushed off his feet. Thank you Tommy for a lovely dinner.

We stayed one night with dinner, bed & breakfast and lunch, and arranged for flowers and champagne in the room on arrival. Check in was OK with robes and flip flops provided. The ground floor room had a really impressive view of a waterfall, and the room itself was OK but not great. The bedroom seemed to have been renovated fairly recently, but had a few cobwebs in the corners (complete with dead fly dangling) and a hole in the duvet cover. Outside were a couple of chairs with dirty cushions. The bathroom was a big letdown which clearly was not renovated at the same time as the bedroom. The tired, yellow tiled floor seemed to have weird marks drawn all over it; the shower over the bath had a knob missing and the shower itself was merely adequate. The champagne was in an ice bucket but with no glasses, necessitating a call to reception who took ages to answer. In the afternoon we went for a Rasul mud treatment and steam room. The steam room was nice, but the meagre amount of mud was not enough for my wife and me. Later, before dinner, and another lengthy wait for reception to answer the phone, we enquired whether they had any couples’ treatments like couples’ massages available. “No”, was the answer, but they recommend a rasul mud treatment! Honestly this was a big disappointment , since it seems the other saunas and steam rooms are single sex within the spa building which severely limited our options for doing things together. Dinner itself was very tasty, and well cooked (even if every dish was accompanied by the same tomato salad). We skipped dessert and went to bed. For breakfast there were limited time slots available, and the selection was a very disappointing buffet with hardly any hot options, no bacon and coffee from a big urn of black coffee. Also a bit weird was having breakfast with 50% of the diners wearing spa robes. Couldn’t people get dressed for breakfast?! Given that it was raining, we couldn’t explore the grounds which look nice in the pictures. The gym looked rather busy, so we decided to call it a day and left without having lunch so we could go to our own gym club near home. Given that a 1 night stay with a treatment cost over £600 I think this place is outrageously bad value for money. For that sort of price one might expect a five star experience, but the rooms are at best four star and the bathrooms 2 star. The dinner was 4 star and the breakfast similar to a Holiday Inn Express (but with people in robes). Service is polite enough but very slow, and checkout was bordering on rude - good job they didn’t ask “how was your stay?” since they might not have liked the response, but we couldn’t be bothered to complain and just wanted to leave. For our next spa day we will go somewhere else that is a hotel with a spa attached, rather than the other way around. And somewhere that caters properly for couples.

We came to Chapneys for a hen do after visiting Cambridge for a night out. It’s been a well needed retreat after a boozy Friday evening. We were warmly welcomed and shown around the extensive grounds. This place feels more like a holiday complex than a spa facility. It’s gorgeous and feels extremely relaxing. One of our favourite parts is The Hideaway which consists of 4 heated waterbeds, with complimentary pillows and blankets. A highlight of today was visiting the restaurant. Unfortunately it was understaffed due to staff illness but our waiter Tommy was an absolute diamond. He was super attentive despite the understaffing and chased our food / drinks when he could. He explained and apologised for the delays and made our visit extra special. The food was exceptional. I had the Caesar salad with halloumi, the lamb biriyani and the apple desert with custard. The quality of ingredients were excellent. The salad was fresh and tasty. The curry was mild and served piping hot. And the desert was a favourite, with the thickest, creamiest custard. The food was included in our price of the stay and succeeded expectations. We have treatments booked in for tomorrow at the spa and we’re all excited with high expectations because everything so far has been 10/10.

Very very disappointed with Champneys Henlow, some staff at this place could not be bothered, I done classes with Jamiela, Dan, extremely disappointing, shoddy work and could not care less about how members was training just wanted to get it done and leave, I suggest some re training would not go a miss. Restaurant staff was great, Mo, Rhys, Angelina, great service, management seem to be having relationships with each other, Jodie who seems to be having an affair with Hendricks the chef (too cosy and making it known in front of guests they are really close) Debbie on reception, pure rude and arrogant, thinks that she owns Champneys instead of respecting members and guests as she should, Lisa is lovely and very welcoming, wanted to have a word with Louise the fitness manager but all I was told by the staff was unless you are shagging her then she won’t see you, unbelievable request, I am very disappointed and will never return Tomas from the shop was a real pleasure, Andrew is a pure gent. Champneys I’m Very disappointed

Extremely disappointed with our stay which I booked for my husband and I for our anniversary. The bedroom had cobwebs in corners and spiders therefore not cleaned thoroughly, the bed had one mattress higher than the other and bed not very neatly made as you would expect, quite dated and generally looked worn out. The tissue box came away from the wall in bathroom, the shower head kept sliding down the rail, I asked if there was a better room and told no, explained of my disappointment but not much interest shown from staff. The spa/pool area was not very pleasant either, not well maintained, water gathered making it quite dangerous, not regularly cleaned as you would expect when there are many people using it. The steam room and changing rooms again not maintained, looking dirty, bit smelly and worn out. This was not at all the relaxing spa break we had hoped for. The next morning breakfast and lunch was good and we just walked around the grounds which were very nice. It has so much potential with the right TLC much needed. Last year I got vouchers for my daughter as a gift which she has yet to use and now having had such a disappointing experience myself I asked if I could have my money back and was told that was not possible!

My stay at Champneys Henlow was just brilliant. As we entered we were warmly welcomed by the staff and Tegan at reception was especially kind and friendly. The hydra spa was beautiful and very relaxing. I would definitely come again and I highly recommend this spa. Thank you Champneys!
