Hotel berhampiran Nýheimar, Hofn

Clean, spacious, well equipt, family friendly and good customer service! 😊 Tough times are a blessing in disguise, it always reveals the true color of the people around us. We planned to stay in 2020 however Covid happened. Team was very understanding and accommodating to our predicament. It was a happy surprise to find premise exceeding our expectations too! Shoes are well organised with rack and oraginsers neatly stacked at entrance. Reception was friendly and informative. Room was clean and neat. In room wash basin was a big plus! There were 2 spacious and well equipt WCs to our section of 6-8rooms. 2 spacious dining areas, 1 large double fridge, 1 single fridge, spacious well equipt kitchen with various prep tables and 2-3+ sinks, pots/pans of various sizes, kitchen towels, utensils, cutleries, hot water dispenser, toaster, coffee percolator, sandwich press, oven, microwave, beverages and absolutely all one needs in the kitchen and more are furnished. It is also children friendly with baby chair, cot and safe play area provided. Rooms are well sectioned with family rooms assigned at the back, away from the hustle and bustle. There are also rooms in basement. There is also a washer/dryer and small drying rack at the far end, past kitchens and book cabinet with reading materials for the avid reader. We had a good comfortable night stay and hope you do too! 🙂

1.) This is NOT a 3 star hotel. The accommodations are very meager. 2.) The staff did NOT warn us about the Sandflies in the area upon check in. By midnight, our room was infested with these bugs that bite and itch. We had to leave in the middle of the night to make our return to Reykjavik to escape this situation. 3.) There was a bunch of horse dung outside our window as well that was disgusting and likely exasperated the sand fly problem. I emailed the owners and never heard a response.

Based on the description, I thought this hotel would be new and modern. Instead, it felt like we were in a room from the 1970s with no amenities. The sheets were pilled and rough. The walls were so thin that we could hear conversations next door. The refrigerator in our room was broken. Every other accommodation in Iceland offered a Nespresso machine while this place offered powdered coffee and a kettle. For the price, I expected a much newer, nicer accommodation. I’d look elsewhere next time.

We stayed here yesterday (for one night) and was totally disappointed with the service. We arrived late around 10:30 pm, it was cold and raining. After unloading the luggage, the receptionist lady told us to load it again and drive to the backside entrance. We were not allowed to go through the building to our rooms as it might disturb other guests sleeping. When we entered from the back, there were group of kids sitting playing and talking loudly. How was that acceptable? Also, Why was a family given a room in middle of teenage kids who were loud since 7 am? Next day in the morning, a staff/maintenance guy just opened our room door without knocking a door.

Fabulous guesthouse, in a secluded - yet easy to reach -place. Beautiful bedroom, nice and warmhearted staff, creative vibe. A perfect place to stay in that area. We had dozens swans crossings at sunset, silence, beauty, majestic views. Thank you!

The guesthouse is made up of two-room cabins. Old cabins. We had neighbors but never heard them. Nice, clean, and no smell. Two beds are separate. It is a nice bed, not super soft, but very comfortable. Wood floors. The bathroom looks worn, but everything worked well. Plenty of hot water, TV, and Wifi. Breakfast is simple but good. Good views. This is a sheep farm, and sheep walk around the cabins. You should enjoy your stay as long as you expect a comfortable cabin and not a 5-star hotel.

The place was much nicer than shown in the picture. The breakfast was really good.

Good direction instructions. Chalet type quality building better than average but not luxurious - in isolated nature location with expansive views. Main benefit in winter is night-over location for next day visit to Hofn & Jokulsarlon glacier. Location easily accessed off A1 main road route. Only a 6/10 as a value proposition , lack of even a basic breakfast purchase option. A yogurt,fruit & croissant or sandwich via vending machine or breakfast box would add value. No amenities closeby. Note: If coming from Southwest last eatery on A1 is about 63km before residence. An hour to the East most Hofn restaurants closed for winter. Lock box entrance process efficient. Second floor apartment accessed by metal stairs. Three roof covered parking spaces utilized by three lower floor residents.No problem with parking on lot. Big wooden deck on upper floor for two available rooms. Larger third abode was cordoned off. Perhaps the latter abode has a hot tub but none was visible on site. Room was very warm on entrance. Comfortable bed. Request for not walking in shoes inside wood floored room. After seeing a tourist enter a shop in clampons I fully understand the need. A shoe rack though would be a welcome addition in winter. Bathroom and toilet combined. Ventilation is via small window. Electricity socket each side of bed. No usb outlets.So bring your own suitable plug. Good quality internet:53mbsdownload, 41 upload.TV was not programmed but Netflix/Disney was accessible. Wine opener Kettle & drinking crockery/cafetière. & coffee,tea,sugar is provided. No microwave or cooking possibilities. Security cameras very small, discreet and intrusive - directed straight into room windows! Overall location a benefit but need to have dined and breakfast groceries pre-purchased.
