Hotel dengan Bar di Hofn

In the small town of Hofn. Very small rooms. No cupbard. Very small sink and shower stall. Comfy beds. Near town amenities with supermarket. No bottled water, slippers, robes, safe etc. Kettle with coffee and tea. Actual keys to rooms vs key cards.

Having booked for the following day and not being able to continue towards Hofn due to a strong snowstorm, considering the very dangerous situation, we asked for availability or if they were full to let us sleep in any lucky situation or on a sofa in the hall . The Receptionist firmly denied any possibility of help both because they were full and for the lack of sofas and space in the hall, advising us to go to a guesthouse about twenty kilometers further on, stating that the storm would end shortly , unfortunately the news was without foundation. The next day, when we finally reached the room, to our amazement and disappointment we found that in the sleeping area of the structure there was actually a great deal of sofas and space available. Fortunately, on the evening of the storm, the nearby structure, even if complete, offered us hospitality Avendo prenotato per il giorno seguente e non essendo in grado di proseguire verso Hofn causa forte bufera di neve, considerata la situazione molto pericolosa, abbiamo chiesto disponibilità o in caso fossero al completo di farci dormire in qualsiasi situazione di fortuna o su un divano nella hall. L’ addetta alla Reception negava fermamente ogni possibilità di aiuto sia perché erano al completo e sia per la mancanza di divani e di spazio nella hall, consigliandoci di rivolgerci a una guesthouse a una ventina di chilometri più avanti affermando che la tempesta sarebbe terminata a poco, purtroppo la notizia risultava senza fondamento. Il giorno successivo, quando finalmente abbiamo raggiunto la camera, con nostro grande stupore e disappunto abbiamo constatato che nella zona notte della struttura in realtà c’era grande disponibilità sia di divani che di spazio. Fortunatamente, la sera della tempesta,la struttura vicina, anche se completa, ci ha offerto ospitalità.

Wir waren begeistert, und das ist nicht leicht uns zu begeistern. Wir haben in Island einige Kaschemmen gesehen, aber dieses Hotel hat uns sehr gefallen. Man muss das immer im Vergleich zu anderen Hotels sehen, denn die Hotelpreise in Island sind insgesamt recht hoch. Es liegt am Ufer und nahe des Hafens. Unser Zimmer war geräumig, hell, einfach und geschmackvoll eingerichtet und groß genug für zwei Personen. Das Frühstück war OK. Am Hafen befinden sich nette Restaurants in Laufnähe, wo wir sehr gut gegessen haben. Für einen Stopp auf der Island-Rundreise ist es bestens geeignet.

Struttura moderna fuori da Hofn. Ambienti luminosi. Poco pratica l'ubicazione del bagno con il lavabo in camera la doccia in ambiente separato ed il WC in altro ambiente. Buona la colazione

We were doing a 3-day Golden Circle tour and stopped here for one night. The buildings have an old-style quality to them. Knick-knacks everywhere give it a homey charm, along with the warm colours. Our room was comfortable and we slept great. Highlight was the restaurant. The food was well-priced and delicious. My partner and I each got a soup of the day, then we shared the cheese pizza. Many of the ingredients were local, including a beer made with arctic thyme. I wish I had saved room for dessert, because those sounded delicious as well. In the morning there is a free buffet breakfast with plenty of hot and cold options. My favourite was the pancakes with ”milk jam”, which tasted like dulce de leche, and bananas.

I have experienced youth hostels and campsites that were better maintained. The furniture looks like it came from the bulky waste, the window had a crack in the glass, the paint on the frame had peeled off completely, there was a hole in a tile in the bathroom, the veneer on the bathroom door was peeling off, I could continue the list. The two nights I stayed there, I did not dare to take a shower, as the mould on the rubber seals was not inviting here either, and in the mini-bathroom, moreover, there was no ventilation whatsoever other than through the door (i.e. there was no ventilation system/fan or similar - hence the mould, I guess). We also ate there on the first evening - a mistake. Lovelessly prepared, overcooked and at best mediocre canteen level. The only time in my entire 14-day Ring Road trip that I did not eat well. The only plus: the thoroughly nice staff. Even though it is the only one among the guesthouses/hotels in Iceland we stayed in where the staff is apparently not used to food and drinks consumed on site being written on the room and paid for on departure. This caused a misunderstanding as they asked the tour operator if full board was also booked and told us, panicking, we should immediately call the operator. This caused unnecessary confusion, but was the least of the problems. Overall, I cannot recommend a stay here. And since the trip was a very expensive one (several thousand euros through a regular travel agency and not a cheap provider), such a mistake in booking the accommodation should not happen. Very disappointed.
