Had a number of rooms booked for my wedding, with less than 1 month to go they were all cancelled. I was told it was a booking error but I believe they house council tenants awaiting homes. I luckily found another local hotel willing to book in a wedding party at short notice, however it was double the price. I got no compensation from the old golf house. I now have people who cannot afford to stay over and will have to drive a significant distance after our wedding. It really has spoilt our day. Add to that my booking was cancelled with just under a month to go, however I had some friends who booked separately, who's rooms were not cancelled until 1 week before the wedding. Our new hotel was sold out and some of the local hotels were more than double the costs due to it being a late booking. So I now have a friend with a young child having to drive home after the wedding and can no longer stay for the whole evening as planned. I don't understand why it took so long to inform the other guests that their bookings were being cancelled. We could have booked everyone in at the new hotel but due to costs some decided to stay at the golf house as their rooms hadn't been cancelled initially. I guess when you have a council contract you don't really need to keep anyone else happy. As long as the council keep paying you. I am disappointed because the staff I dealt with, on 2 separate occasions when visiting the hotel, were lovely and very helpful. I know it isn't the staffs fault but it really has ruined my thoughts on this hotel. We live local and love to support local, but we will be avoiding anything to do with the golf house now and encouraging family and friends to do the same too. Myself and my wedding guests are out of pocket due to this "booking system error" and had no offer of compensation from the hotel. I just got a list of local hotels, that I was already aware of due to living locally and working in events. Some of the later cancelled guests where asked if they needed help finding somewhere new but they all knew of my other recommended hotels and their faith in this hotel was already ruined. I believe some of them did question why it took so long for their rooms to be cancelled when they knew they couldn't honour the booking 3 weeks earlier, but they never got an answer to this. Please avoid booking this hotel! It isn't what it used to be, the photo's are all old photo's, from pre covid. Also google the hotel and you will find youtube videos of people exploring it when it was closed between 2020-2022. It has only recently reopened.
