We stayed here for a night in the last week of April 2023 - though we booked this hotel because it mentioned 24 hour access to the park, when we went after the park closed it was not lit up, was quite dark so frankly we would not have been able to enjoy even the large main geothermal pool (we changed and went there, but didn’t even get in when we realized it could be dangerous due to the depth and lack of light), instead opting for a morning dip before the park opened. The rooms smelled a bit musty, and the bathrooms would get wet constantly because the shower “door” was glass that didn’t extend enough to prevent water splashing out so the bathroom mat would constantly get soaked - a pet peeve of mine. Keep in mind the restaurant there shuts early with the last order at 9, so when we got back from the town by 9:20 and wanted to have dinner, we were told to order “room service” - which meant we had to go down to the bar to order the food, pay and wait for it there, and bring the cart up to the room ourselves when it was ready. Not sure if this is the case also for room service order before 9pm. Though the Terra Nostra gardens are worth a visit, in hindsight I would have done it as a day trip, as there are other geothermal pools close by as well that are open until later ( 10:30/11 ), so no need to stay at this particular hotel unless you want access jacuzzis and geothermal pool before other guests can arrive. When we visited the jacuzzis were under scheduled maintenance work until June 2023 so perhaps this access in addition would have made the stay worth it.

Excellent hotel overall. Great location and friendly staff and great grounds/view. The experience there could be dramatically improved with just two small changes:
1. Poolside service - as it is, you have to get your own food and drink. Adding an app or call system would be awesome. A pool waiter/waitress would be amazing.
2. Better mattresses. They felt quite hard, like a budget mattress not appropriate to a nice hotel.

Mooi, zeer rustig gelegen complex met appartementen en hotelkamers. Het complex is gelegen in het rustige dorpje Capelas, kwartier rijden vanaf de hoofdstad en het vliegveld. Een auto is een must, maar die heb je toch nodig om dit prachtige eiland te bezichtigen. Ons 2-kamerappartement was zeer ruim en schoon. De bedden lagen prima met keuze uit twee kussens. Keuken zeer volledig met oven, magnetro, Nespresso apparaat (cups tegen betaling) en waterkoker met gratis thee aanwezig. Het hotel wil vanwege het milieu de gasten stimuleren om minder gebruik te maken van de schoonmaakservice. Bij geen schoonmaak ontvang je per dag een voucher à €3 om in het restaurant te besteden. Echter is €3 in dit restaurant niet veel waard, aangezien de prijzen fors zijn: een cappuccino kost hier €3,50 terwijl op het hele eiland de prijzen voor koffie rond de €1, 20 liggen Je moet zelf om de vouchers vragen, ik vond het geen handig systeem en de compensatie is natuurlijk totaal niet in verhouding (€3 versus geen schoonmaak, handdoeken, opgemaakt bed, aanvulling thee en fles water). Het restaurant waar we koffie hebben gedronken met de vouchers vonden wij ongezellig. Van de sauna, fitnessruimte en het binnen- en buitenzwembad geen gebruik gemaakt, dus dit kan ik ook niet beoordelen. Voldoende parkeerruimte. Gezellig koffie drinken tussen de locals in cafetaria Moby Dick in het dorp. Supermarkten Pingo Doce en Continentale vlakbij op auto afstand. Al met al een prima verblijf.

All of the accommodations are top notch, the bed was supremely comfortable and even the linens and towels had a plush feeling.
Breakfast options can be slightly redundant but the quality and freshness of the ingredients, along homemade jam and juice, as well as a flexibility to switch things up on the menu, more than make up for it.
We the hotel restaurant is excellent for dinner as well. So much so that we ended up defaulting to it more than once during our stay.
We also appreciated small details like the phone they provided upon check-in that followed us everywhere on the island for spur of the moment suggestions and reservations through the hotel!
All in all, highly recommended, my wife and I know we’ll be back!

This was my second wonderful stay at Herdade do Ananas. Staff manages to be both friendly and professional, and my strongest sense is that this hotel is extremely well managed and well maintained--it has every right to claim to be a polished boutique rural hotel. The property is spotless, and the outdoor common areas are being further improved through more plantings. Rooms are very comfortable with modern bathrooms and cozy beds. The location is not walkable to anything; you do need to either have a car or take taxis. Breakfast is excellent and plentiful, with eggs cooked to order. We had dinner at the restaurant and it was excellent, particularly the hummus. Two small points for improvement. One, the coffee at breakfast is indeed poor quality, although I appreciate they serve it alongside hot milk and will bring a custom espresso. The in-room coffee is unfortunately instant. Secondly, they allow smoking and while I only saw ash trays, not smokers, on the balconies, this really has a dampening affect considering how the building and grounds are laid out. If one person did decide to smoke, it certainly would affect others in the vicinity.

PPengguna TetamuWhilst the hotel was very modern it seemed to lack basics such as a kettle in the room (there is a nespresso machine but for any tea drinkers out there they will know that making tea through a coffee machine is far from ideal) and being able to retrieve an iron. Instead you are expected to put items in for laundry when all we wanted to do was run an iron over a shirt for the evening.
Pool area is stunning however has the most uncomfortable loungers you could ever find. They look great but the max stay to bathe is less than an hour before your entire body goes numb.
It seems that this stunning hotel is trying to be a little above its star rating and failing on these few points at just trying that bit too hard for the clientele staying.
Rooms were very clean although signs of some wear and tear are already starting to show.
Location is EXCELLENT and staff helpful, polite and welcoming.
Not sure if we would stay again as we are real sun worshipers and really struggled to enjoy the pool area here.

PPengguna TetamuThis is a gem of a place. Superb choice. Staff are off the charts friendly and helpful. Apartment hotel. We had a 1 bedroom apartment which consisted, a bedroom, good size living room for two with kitchenette. Spotlessly clean, everything in great condition. Close to the town to walk in. Here's a tip - you will need a rental car to explore the island, and so you will need to park it at night. You can find spots to park after about 5:30 PM fairly close and free, near the hotel. In the morning and most of the day, parking can be challenging. But we always managed it. In the same street on the same side of the road, heading toward town, try the bar for a great deal. Beer and wine cheap and they do a very good burger and fries. we had a few nights in there. Friendly people, cheap meal. The Casa do Contador will not disappoint. 100% happy.

ZZ4577MHseanhWe stayed for four nights in a king room and returned for one night to a standard room on our way home both were excellent , Check in was so pleasant nothing was a problem stored our cases for 12 days while we visited islands ,Welcome drink is a nice touch and personal card in room each time . Off street parking ,really nice pool with towels available at reception ,lounge off reception with menu was our stop for lunch . Breakfast was perfect lots of fresh fruit and pastries. Outside was repainted while we were staying and looks great, you can see the management are investing and improving the hotel and when you walk in reception lounge/bar has a real fresh feel . Hotel is well located at the end of the sea front and a short walk to plenty of good restaurants. Thanks to staff for a super stay and we will definitely return next year . Honestly couldn’t recommend hotel enough.

PPengguna TetamuI just returned from a three night stay at this hotel with my girlfriend and our teenage daughter. We have been countless times in S. Miguel as we consider it such a pleasant and beautiful island. This time we opted for a hotel outside the main towns and in fact we managed to do just that. At the same time it is only 20 minutes away from the airport and 15 minutes away from Ponta Delgada or Ribeira Grande, the two main towns. We already visited the nine islands of the Azores archipelago and always get a rental car at the airport (exception at Corvo Island). If you are staying in this hotel, it is paramount that you do the same. As to the hotel itself, we booked it only four weeks in advance on high season, thus we had to pay the full rate of the stay at that moment. Upon check-in on room 206, we were given two identical cards without any distinctive element, one to open the door and the other to insert into the slot for lightening. That is odd, generally, hotels give two identical keys to open the door and one of them, if necessary can be left on the slot when we are out. We were assigned a spacious accommodation with living room, bedroom and bathroom. We did not have sea view and the living room had lots of glass walls overlooking the adjacent condo. All those glasses made it very hot on the sun shining days and we had to keep the AC on during the day. The décor of the room was unstylish and lacking attention to details. The bedroom had a big closet but no clothes rail or hangers. Besides that, one of the doors of the closet could not be opened fully, because it bumped into the shelves that are installed as bedside tables. The safe was old style, that is to say, it closes with a key that we had to ask for at the reception at no charge, along with a cumbersome key ring that we had to take with us whenever we were out of the room. The living room had a well equipped kitchen, that we did not use but it was constantly patrolled by half a dozen ants. We had bought previously some good looking fruits and had to fill a big dish with water and in the middle of it we put a small dish with our fruit so that the ants weren’t able to cross the water in order to get to fruit island. The bathroom was very spacious and pleasant looking even if the washbasin was more stylish than efficient. This room lacked tremendously of a place to put one´s belongings (toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, electrical razor and so on). Amazingly no one foresaw the installation of a shelf. The social areas of the hotel such as the lobby are, again, unstylish, corridors have shabby carpeting. The room where breakfast is served has a view to an outside wall and lacks natural lightening. Breakfast itself has a reasonable variety of items, but by no means is it worth 12 euro per person per day, that in our case we were asked to paid in advance, precisely at the same moment we made the reservation. EEdmicoThis is a great hotel in the centre of everything. I would class it as a boutique hotel with a lot of character including an open landing with seating area and library. I used the top pool area quite a bit in the mornings and it was generally quiet. The gym is there too and was being upgraded with new equipment when I was there. Breakfast was the usual tasty fair and a good way to set up the day. I also ate there twice in the evening and really enjoyed the food both times. The restaurant always seemed to be busy in the evenings and was part of the food tasting tour but I didn't need to book in advance. The staff were also great, from helping me fix my safe to generally looking after my needs and ensuring I was ok. As a slight aside, they do a couple of things differently to other hotels which I found refreshing as they cut out seemingly unnecessary admin. They didn't need my credit card on check in but I was still able to charge to the room. Also, pool towels were available anytime from reception with no need for deposits, etc and two drop off points for returning them. On a final point, I emailed them in the spring before my trip and asked if I could have a room with a balcony overlooking the public garden and they managed to sort that out for me. It was great leaving the doors/windows open and/or sitting on the balcony at different times during the day just to chill for a bit as the room sometimes got a little warm/humid.

I would grade this more as a European 3* but it still offered good value considering it's location and standard of accommodation. We had to move rooms after a few days as our original room (502) faced some outlets that omitted a nasty smell of an evening which meant we could not sit out on the balcony - reception staff speak great English and thankfully managed to swap to new room. The pools (indoor and outdoor), steam room and sauna were great but jacuzzi needs servicing as only a couple of jets actually work and was very murky. Spa treatments very reasonable and very good. (Read a review saying you need to bring your own towels to use pools - this is not true, you can obtain pool towels from reception for EUR10 deposit.) Didn't use restaurant but bar staff were great and food was good (chips are crisps, not fries though!) Kitchenette is exactly that, two hobs, combi microwave and kettle - cooking a family meal for 5 was a challenge but doable with a camping style outlook! All in all a great budget friendly base for exploring the island or taking boat trips and being able to semi self cater.

PPengguna TetamuWe stayed for only one night due to its proximity to the airport, as we were travelling on the next day. The location is superb, being very central and within walking distance of everything you will require. Turn right on exiting, and you are a 2 minute walk to the port area with all its restaurants, bars, and also a lot of street food on offer, there is also a public swimming area in the harbour. Turn left on exiting, and you immediately have a choice of two cheap breakfast locations. Walk the side streets for bars, restaurants, and entertainment. The reception and breakfast staff are really fantastic, knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating, which is worth a few stars alone. Our room on the 3rd floor was fine, it was spotlessly clean, the beds were very comfortable and the bedding of good quality. The ensuite was again fine, not luxurious but equipped with everything you require. The room generally was a bit soulless, looking over the rear of the hotel and pretty basic, but then we were there on holiday, the plan never was to spend much time in the room. The breakfast is a standard buffet type breakfast that's perfectly adequate but won't blow your socks off, many alternatives exist close by. No onsite parking provided but paid parking available close by. The hotels location and staff make up for any shortcomings that may, or indeed may not exist. Just enjoy the convenience it offers and relax.
