Hotel berhampiran Smábátahöfnin í Keflavík, Keflavik

This hotel is very clean, the room was large and the bed very comfortable. It is situated on a little harbour and we had a nice room with a harbour view. There is a restaurant attached and the food was excellent. My only issue is that it is about a 10 min drive from the airport and the taxi ride one way was 42 euros which translated to $136 Canadian dollars round trip, that was a bit of a sticker shock for a 10 min ride (20 min total).

Like many people, when the pandemic hit we had to cancel our travel plans. This was the only booking that was a giant hassle to deal with. We had booked and paid for an entire trip to Iceland, and contacted all of the hotels, transfers, and tours to cancel and get refunds or vouchers. Every other venue was willing to work with us under the circumstances – even if the reservation had been non-refundable - except this one. At first we were told that we could cancel and reschedule until the end of 2021. Then when we tried to do so, they said that if we cancelled we would simply lose all our money whether we rescheduled or not. After some arguing, we were again told that we could reschedule, but they wanted us to pay them more money. We refused, and there was more arguing. Finally, we booked a date without paying more, and when we received a booking confirmation it said the new booking could be cancelled for a full refund. After all of that. It was ridiculous that, for a one-night stay, we had to spend two or three hours arguing with different representatives, when every other booking – most of them much more expensive – dealt with us courteously and efficiently. When it’s safe to travel again, we intend to re-book the trip exactly as before – the only exception being that we won’t re-book here, as they were so unreasonable and stressful to deal with.

I recommend this guesthouse if it is your final destination before leaving Iceland. I think a lot of people do not understand that this is not a luxury home; it is truly meant to host you for a single night before an early flight. The place is clean and safe. The bathrooms are communal and the rooms are relatively small (keep in mind rooms are usually small in Iceland). One thing I did not like is that at night, it can get very loud due to the winds. However, this is absolutely not the responsibility of the host, it is just something to keep in mind. The reason I gave this location 4 stars is that it is very affordable, in my opinion it is a waste of money to stay somewhere expensive on your last night next to the airport. It is also worth repeating that the place is very clean and safe.

I booked a night here on my way out of town to be close to the KEF airport since my friends were leaving the night before. The four-bed female dorms are great and the bathroom down the hall was always clean. Towels and linens are provided, as well as a great breakfast starting at 4 am for those trying to grab a bite before an airport pickup. I wish taxis weren't so expensive to go the 7 mins down the road (about 2 miles) -- we were charged 4000 kroners for 2 people (~$30) ... It would be nice if the hostel offered free airport shuttles, even at just set times 2-3x a day. But overall, great option for overnight by the airport and definitely the best budget location/bang for your buck.

Prima notte in Islanda, dopo un viaggio lungo e faticoso. Dopo il volo in ritardo, tampone in aeroporto, problemi con il noleggio auto, per fortuna che siamo arrivati all'Arctic Wind. Stanza pulita e i due proprietari ad accoglierci, anche se ci avevano scritto che ci avrebbero lasciato la stanza aperta. Le stanze, con bagno privato, hanno tutte un ingresso proprio. Non bisogna passare prima da una zona comune. Inoltre c'è una bella cucina da condividere con gli altri ospiti e, volendo, preparano loro stessi la colazione per un piccolo sovraprezzo. La stanza, seppur non grande, ci ha rassicurato a prima vista e questo, arrivando stanchi la sera, vale tantissimo. Monika ci ha dato tantissime informazioni su tutto il nostro viaggio e delle ottime ”dritte” per visitare il vulcano in autonomia, cosa che abbiamo fatto con successo. Lei e il marito sono anche tour operator. Sul sito del motel potete trovare quello che fanno. Da i contatti via mail e whatsapp non sembrava, ma si è dimostrata veramente disponibile e generosa di consigli. Per la singola notte del 7 agosto, ho speso 110 € per una matrimoniale. Ciao.

This is a good option if you don’t want to stay in Reykjavík centre and just a few minutes drive out, but in a very secluded location through an upmarket residential area and down on a little peninsula on its own. It is so quiet. There are cosy basic rooms or superior rooms. I’d booked a standard triple room and when we arrived we found it was under the rooftop hot tub and sauna and feared noise so we called the number given for assistance and requested a room change. We had to upgrade however are so glad we did as the superior room had a sea view and was so much bigger. It was organised within minutes and extra bedding bought over for the sofa bed and we paid the additional cost over the phone. Great service thank you. I would definitely recommend the superior room, however we didn’t hear any noise fr the hot tub at all so I think people are very respectful. It’s a really quirky quiet place without any service such as reception bar breakfast etc but would happily stay again. Got a great sunset view and I imagine if Aurora played ball it would be stunning here. There is no check in, rooms are left unlocked so it’s very easy.

The # of stars rating for this hotel is irrelevant. My wife and I have never experienced such kindness and curtesy well beyond and above the call of duty. Stranded in Iceland due to weather, not an uncommon winter event, and stranded by the poor response and complete lack of service from hotels.com, the front desk staff here jiggered the ir rooms, and found us one. All flights had been cancelled; we thought we had booked, thru htelos.com-they failed, Hotel Vellir came through with flying colors. while waiting in the lobby to see what they could do for us, we were served coffee! When has that niceness been shown to any of us weary travelers recently? The hotel is clean;+ comfortable, with a sports bar attached serving food on a Sunday eve-again no small feat. Breakfast too the next morning-and then kindly called us a taxi. Such hospitality in the hospitality industry- many could observe and learn from the staff here. The Hotel Vellir staff are ambassadors for Iceland- and deserve all the kudos one can muster. (Btw , you've never really lived until you've watch a football/i.e. soccer match called in Icelandic! So cool!) Thank you Hotel Vellir- you helped make what could have been a disaster into a warm and welcoming experience!

A wonderful start to our holiday! Gorgeous cabins with so much charm! We loved all of the intricate carved details. Highly suggest dinner at the attached restaurant. Tasty meal and fabulous staff.
