45 Steps - the Culinary Beachside Inn

After careful research in the internet, we found this gem of a place and are we ever happy we found this place. The hosts, Thomas and Barbara are true professionals, they know how to welcome people and make them feel important. The rooms are tastefully done, minimal furniture, peaceful colours, comfortable pillows and duvets, bathroom amenities, the list goes on. Breakfasts are wonderful, served European style with various meats and cheeses, yogurts, breads, cereals, etc. We booked in for 2 nights and chose to have the 3 course dinners that were offered. To say the meals were delicious is an understatement. Each course was artfully presented and explained as to the ingredients and style of cooking. The attention to using local ingredients made each bite an experience. The location is excellent, close to the airport, easy for navigating around the island. They were very helpful in giving us recommendations for dinners, travel and itineraries. We have traveled throughout the world and find this special inn one of the best. What a gem ! Beautiful room with lots of little extra touches showing quality and great style -the food was great with more then a little European touch ! and host charming even though we had made an error in booking ! Would definitely recommend !! The sunset charming ! A little oasis !

Wish I was a wordsmith so I could explain what an amazing place this is to experience. The beautiful,quality, peaceful rooms with amazing views, the delicious food, and private beach. The quality of a European trip right here in the maritimes. Can't wait to go again.

I do not know where to start, as from the booking onwards everything was managed exceptionally well by the passionate and warm hearted hosts Barbara and Thomas. Location: right at the ocean, pure nature - awesome Rooms: Perfectly clean, spacious, equipped with all the amenities you need Food: Fantastic breakfast (self-made bread, cake, Bircher muesli…) and delicious 3 course dinner (freshly prepared by Barbara) Hosts: always available, wonderful tips for exploring the area There is really nothing to complain about. We will be back - and I think the best compliment for a host is a returning guest.

Amazing. i doubt one could find finer accommodation on Prince Edward Island. Top class food, attentive and accomodating hosts. Architecturally stunning Inn and naturally stunning ocean view to match. Options to lounge and socialise in a gorgeous, comfortable, spacious living room of a common area comforted by a massive central fire place; Read in a library nook with a view of the ocean and sliding library ladders. The accomodation is an Island experience of its own. Hardly a need to venture off property to other local attractions.

We were very grateful to call 45 Steps our home base for 3 days/2 nights for the first time on PEI. We felt wrapped in quiet and solitude at this very beautiful home, right on the ocean and beach. The setting of 45 Steps is a very scenic, secluded and peaceful part of the island. We had delicious dinner and breakfasts there, and there is a room refrigerator to bring along your own supplies. We enjoyed sitting in the library by the fireplace after dinner, on the cooler Fall evenings when we visited. It's obvious that hosts Barbara and Thomas take such pride in the comfort and beauty of 45 Steps. They also have an interesting story on how PEI has become their home and passion. Super clean room and furnishings, with sound sleep, thanks to the first class bed and bedding. A great find, and we plan to revisit someday, if we get back to PEI again.

Barbara and Thomas and their wonderful assistants, Claire and Lisa, are truly the most wonderful inn keepers in the world. The inn is immaculate and beautifully curated. There isnt a detail that is not attended to with extreme care. The hotel is just steps away from the most beautiful beach in PEI. The inn itself is absolutely gorgeous and the attention to detail with which this place is cared for is extended to all of its guests. The open kitchen is spectacular and Barbara can always be found cooking up wonderful creations throughout the day. The living room and library are cozy and available for you to relax in, chat in, or just enjoy the ambience of a quiet inn on a unspoiled coastline. Breakfast is amazing and i am partial to the fresh breads and jams that Barbara takes care to make herself. In the evening, cocktails and wine are provided with quiet elegance and Thomas is a master at finding great wines that pair perfectly with the offerings for dinner. Everyone is so friendly you feel as if you cannot help but feel part of the family. I have now stayed there three times. The tower suite is by far my favorite but it really doesnt matter because all of the rooms are lovely and look out on the ocean. This is the most magical place i have ever stayed where peace and serenity surround the inn and its environs. I hate to share this treasure with the world because the more i share it the more booked up the inn becomes. However, it is truly a one of a kind place that everyone should be able to experience in their lifetime. I am grateful and thankful for everyone there and cannot wait until i can once again return to 45 steps.

Wonderful two nights here exploring the area. Perfect room with beautiful sea view, the bed was the most comfortable ever, as were the pillows. Owner/chef Barbara very knowledgeable and helpful and a very well stocked library. Dinner and breakfast both delicious, home made jams and bread ,cheese and cold cuts for breakfast. A beautiful place to spend time!

We stayed at this hidden gem of a getaway by the ocean in August to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary and felt relaxed the moment we arrived with the clean and tastefully appointed room with view of the ocean to seeing the hummingbirds in the feeders. Barbara and Thomas have set the bar high as hosts and still craving the homemade breads and jams we indulged in each morning. Extra special treat to be able to have a cuddle from their two pugs who are adorable. The beach was fantastic for collecting sea glass and the steps leading down gives you a bit of exercise. This review is a bit late as I had written one when we returned but see that it did not get posted ( I think I forgot to sign in first). We would highly recommend staying at this fabulous Inn and hope to return again. Sterling and Cathy
