Large Japanese style family room was good, though the hard pillows were hard even by the standards of a traditional futon pillow. The hotel is large and overall the facilities are good, even if there is a somewhat North Korean vibe to the very large public areas and decor. Baths were functional, but the water is excellent especially in the small outside bath which is very sulphurous. Food was rather average given the cost. Dinner is a combination of items from the buffet (which were fine if you got them when freshly prepared) and shabushabu made at the table. Breakfast was rather chaotic, but that might have been a function of the large group of tourists from China that were staying at the hotel. Overall, a decent if slightly institutional onsen.

This ryokan is close to the bus terminal and main square yet not too massively big. There were still crowd control with limit on maximum number of person in each onsen so it was a pleasant experience with about 3-4 persons in the onsen when we visit during our stay. Dinner and breakfast (excellent) were delicious. Only 1 check-in/out staff speaks minimal English and she used google translate to help during communication - we managed fine. Meals were in private dinning room and staff who spoke good English explained the various courses. A pleasant experience. We stayed in the traditional room without bath and it was clean and comfortable. Would recommend!

Location - about 10min walk from the bus terminal at Kusatsu station. Walkable unless it's snowy or froze on the ground as part of the path is quite steep to walk up. Not hard to find as the town is quite close to everything. About 15min walk to yubatake for the famous onsen for pictures and local food and snacks. You can walk to the Sainokawara Onsen(open air public onsen) for about 8min which is located just behind the hotel itself. Service - they do provide transport to and from Yubatake with a specific timetable. They also have an open luggage area at the main hall if you area before check-in you could just leave the luggage and explore the town. They also have separate gender onsen with both indoor and outdoor facilities. They came around 7pm to my room to offer to set up my sleeping mattress. The dinner time was 6.45pm to 8pm and they may vary between seasons. You will be located in a seat in the dining room so don't worry about the crowd and having to fight for your seat. It's buffet style food and I read previous comments about food being cold. They aren't cold as it was heated around 60c ish but the moment food leaves the Bain Marie it will become cold especially during winter. Alcohol is included but you need to be 18 years old. They will start closing some stations including soft serve around 7.30pm so do get there earlier. Cleanliness - just an older building and maintenance pretty ok. You could tell from the design it's a bit outdated but it wasn't dirty or messy. Amenities - they have a Japanese sleep/bath robe at the main hall for guests to take if you need. There's no wifi in the room unfortunately and the only free wifi provided by the hotel is just located down at the main hall. I was given a Japanese style room which is pretty standard. It was on the 7th floor so it came with a pretty good view.

一番小さい部屋でしたがリニューアルしたようで壁紙なども新しく畳表のいい匂いがしました。 食事は手の込んだものが色々あり楽しめました。フォアグラの茶碗蒸しだけは脂っこくて高齢者には無理でしたが、上州のサーモンや牛など地のものを沢山いただきました。私が左利きなのを見てとってくれていたようで朝食時には箸の向きを代えてくださる気遣いも嬉しかったです。テーブル間隔も広くとってあり、お互いを気にせず静かに食事を楽しめました。 湯畑もバスターミナルも近いですが、静かな場所にある落ち着いた宿です。

This is the hotel taking 5 star from my own scoring so far in Japan. 1) Central location with free car park 2) Amazing Food with Kaiseki type traditional service(Dinner and breakfast). All the ingredients and the way that they prepare in nice atmosphere is amazing. I think it was the best food experience for me so far in Japan. 3) Indoor and open air onsen which is so clean. 4) Service quality and hospitality is top class. We wanted to give a surprise gift to our cousin. We asked their restaurant management to prepare a special closed ceramic bowl etc. They perfectly prepared more than our expectation. Moreover, they also gave their own small gift to our cousin. 5) Building also in traditional shape and well maintained. 6) Our room was traditional tatami style and it was big enough with bath tube and toilet. 7) First floor is the biggest souvenir shop in central kusatsu area.

将軍の湯お汲み上げの湯は、天井が高く、木のぬくもりがありとても風情がありました。硫黄のにおい、湯量、少し白く濁った色合い・・・草津温泉の泉質は本当にいいですね。 館内廊下には、花、美術品などが飾られ気持ちがリッチになります。宿泊費はそれなりに高い宿ですが、その分きちんとお金をかけているように思いました。従業員の方は見かけると必ずあいさつをされ、とても気持ちよかったです。 風呂上がりにまったりとビールを飲みたくなったので、軽く生ビールが飲めるラウンジがないかと探したのですがありませんでした。ただ、すぐ隣に宿併設のカフェがあり、地ビールが飲めます（残念ながら生ビールは飲めません）。 クルマはノーマルタイヤのため（降雪の心配があったため）今回は、JRの長野原草津口のパーキングに車をおいて、バスで草津温泉に行きました。あまりPRされていないように思いますが（宿予約時にクルマを長野原草津口に駐車することを言いましたが宿からの説明なし）、長野原草津口～草津温泉往復バスは、パーク＆ライド割引で30％引きになります（駐車券提示要）。草津バスターミナルから宿までは下り坂なので（５分ぐらい）温泉街を見ながらのちょうどいい散歩になります。帰りは登りになりますので宿の送迎バスを使ったほうがいいと思います。

Perhaps the biggest flaw: they don’t have non-smoking rooms. Aged hotel, great location, abismal architecture, ugliest building around the Yubatake, nice service, parking out of the town centre, but with a shuttle taking you back and forth any time of the day. The hotel onsen is ok, but not big enough to deal with peak times. Breakfast is fabulous. A true banquet. And service is so good that they’ll even bring you a nama tamago if you ask them. If you don’t want to pay for a traditional-looking bath house building, you’ll find nothing more convenient than this hotel. And if you have a problem with any ashtray smell of your rooms, they will desodorise it in a process that takes 1 hour. Perhaps not a bad idea to ask them to do this before your expected arrival time.

ツインの部屋を予約したのですが、宿泊確認メールに喫煙可能という文字があったため、 部屋の変更を依頼して和室に変更しました。禁煙希望の方はツインは全室喫煙可能ですので避ける事をお勧めします。実際喫煙可能のお部屋はとてもタバコ匂いがきつかったですよ、でもフロントの対応がとても良くて安心しました。 設備は古いですが問題点はありませんでした。 トイレを流す音がうるさいぐらいかな？、かなり快適です。 お風呂は万代の湯で、湯畑の湯より優しい感じですが、草津の湯は体が火照り寝苦しくなるほどのパワーがありますねー、流石です！　内湯、露天風呂どちらもかなり大きくて快適 食事が最高です！一万円でこのコスパは素晴らしい！！　しかもサービスと思われますが 基本プランなのにカニが付いてました！カニは大変だからあえて避けたのですがやはり美味しい！、感謝です！、群馬県産の食材中心で、豚肉も200gもあるので硬いかな？と期待して無かったのですが、全然柔らかくとても良いお肉で大満足！　朝食も群馬産オンパレードで、特に納豆が素晴らしく美味しくて、9個で3700円とお値段張りますがお土産で買いました。でもこんなサービスを受けてこのお値段を考えると全然okですよ、また湯畑の大東館までの送迎もあり、湯畑の湯にも入れる、しかも、漫画も揃ってる、本当に素晴らしい宿です。絶対お勧めです！！ また、長期滞在したいですね

Don’t be fooled by the appearance of this inn, while the furniture /wooden shelves are dated, it is clean and spacious and comfortable. The rooms are fantastically large, with a living room area with a giant TV and lounging sofa. The low table provided ample space to lay out all the things you need for your stay. There is also a shower and toilet in your room, yukatas, towels, hairdryer, etc. It is suitable for up to 4 people staying together, and also suitable for families. The owner/ staff of the ryokan are wonderfully hospitable and speak excellent English. He introduced himself and explained how to get a private onsen room. He also thoughtfully installed Nintendo games in my room to help pass the time till bedtime, I got super Mario. Onsen: There are 3 private onsen rooms, and a system where a closed door means the onsen is occupied, while an open one means you can use it. The doors are lockable of course. There is no time limit on how long you can use it, or how many times you can use it. Outside the onsen room area is amenities like water and another large sitting area where you can wait for an onsen room if all are occupied. There are wonderful vintage arcade games that are lovingly maintained by the owner, such as Pac-Man. Sleep: The futon beds are a layer of foam mattress above a thick memory foam mattress, which were very comfortable and I slept well. Even though there were children in the room next door, I couldn’t hear them at all. Did not book any meals there so can’t comment on the food. The staff/ owner, knowing that I didn’t book meals, very generously offered maps of good restaurants nearby within Kuwait’s that I could go. On checkout, knowing that I hadn’t had breakfast, the staff/ owner gave me a voucher for free coffee at a small coffee shop n nearby. The thoughtfulness of the staff/ owner is very much appreciated and made my stay memorable.

Walaupun saya tiba agak awal, saya dapat menyimpan bagasi saya yang besar, jadi saya dapat menerokai bandar dengan tangan kosong. Apabila saya memasuki bilik, pintu masuknya luas dan bilik itu sendiri luas dan saya berasa agak santai. Sejurus selepas mendaftar masuk, kami dibekalkan dengan teh dan gula-gula. Ia sangat lazat. Sepanjang penginapan anda, pintu masuk akan dibuka sehingga jam 25:00, jadi anda boleh keluar dengan bebas. Tidak ada tempat mandi di dalam bilik, tetapi ia bagus untuk dapat menggunakan tempat mandi awam dengan bebas semasa saya menginap. Walaupun ia mengatakan ia adalah bilik sahaja, sarapan disertakan dan ia lazat. Minuman dan kopi juga disediakan. Selepas mendaftar keluar, saya dapat menyimpan bagasi saya sehingga waktu bas, jadi saya dapat mengambil masa saya pada hari kedua. Jika saya datang ke Kusatsu lagi, saya ingin tinggal di sini lagi.

湯畑から近く、コンビニも近くにあり、場所は便利です。 お宿は古いですが、お部屋はキレイにしてありました。 こたつもありました。都内は20度あったのに、雪がちらついて寒かったので助かりました。 2食付きで8000円しないので、草津ではリーズナブルな方かと思います。 お料理は家庭料理のような感じですが、美味しかったですし、夕食はかなりボリュームがありました。 お部屋とは別に個室が用意されてあり、準備が完了すると呼ばれ、食事中は宿の方の入室はありませんでした。 1階にわたの湯源泉の貸切風呂、地下に湯畑源泉の男女別と貸切風呂がありました。 初めてわたの湯源泉に入りましたが、湯あたりが柔らかくゆっくり入れました。 煮川の湯、大滝の湯、地蔵湯、白旗の湯は徒歩圏内ですので、湯巡りできます。 3年程ぶりに草津にいきましたが、新しいお宿等ができていました。

伊豆の共立リゾートさんを利用してます。横浜からはやはり遠く車では大変ですが、草津の湯を堪能出来、また草津の豊富な湯量に驚きました(噴出量日本一！)。ヒルズさんは内湯、露天風呂、部屋風呂は全て保温以外は掛け流し。長くなりますが、草津では6つの主要源泉(万代鉱、湯畑、白旗、地蔵、煮川、西の河原)が有名ですが、ラビスタ草津さんは、湯量が少なく貴重な湯川の湯を部屋の露天風呂に引いていて、檜の風呂に贅沢に張れます。大浴場の内湯と、露天風呂は湯畑、ほんのり硫黄の匂いがします。内湯にある１人用の檜風呂は万代鉱と、3つの源泉の湯が楽しめます。湯川の湯は冬の外を散策しても湯冷めしにくくビックリしました。大浴場はほぼ24時間入浴可能な事も嬉しいところ。アイスキャンディー、夜鳴きそばのサービスの他にも時間帯別に他のサービスがあります。サービスが充実している反面、朝夕の食事は、ラビスタ富士河口湖が上かな？紅茶や、コーヒーのサービスは、他の共立リゾートさんの宿の良い点を結集した感じで、お部屋でも美味しいお茶を飲みながら寛げます。湯畑までは徒歩だと15分以上かかりますが、時間指定でホテルの送迎車があります。温泉とサービスは申し分ないですが、朝夕の食事内容が、料金に見合ってない(伊豆、河口湖の系列の宿) と思いました。ただ味つけは良かったです。

We stayed here for 4nights and enjoyed the convenience of this place. We had a rented car and parking was easy. Room was spacious and heating was very good especially in winter nights. The owners gave us free breakfast on a Sunday and it was very nice gesture. The staff and owner tried their very best to make us feel comfortable, and they are the only ones in Kusatsu that speak a little bit of English to us. All in all, this place was very convenient and fairly accessible. Thanks for having us, will surely return.

This really was a treat. We stayed three nights and found the service very hospitable. There were four small ofuro baths to choose from, an area to relax in, a very clean and comfortable room, and one of the best breakfasts I’ve had in a hotel in my life - the food was very freshly prepared, with little tasting dishes, each of which was very tasty. The staff were so friendly and there were many details that just made this place exceptional - the way in which they put our shoes out in the morning, or how they wiped down our bag wheels and greeted us with matcha and a Japanese sweet when we arrived. A real gem of a hotel.
