Hotel Mesra Haiwan Peliharaan di La Spezia

We recently completed a trip through Europe by train staying in each country in four star hotels. The one hotel that stands out the most from all the rest was the Poet Hotel, La Spezia, Italy, unfortunately not for all the right reasons ! Although out of the seven hotels we stayed , the Poet was the most basic of all, in fact we'd be generous giving it a three star. The room we stayed in was very cramped, no cupboards, no draws, or wardrobe to unpack clothes etc. Just a bed, an open clothes rail, a mirror and tiny small shelf-desk. Although we found it clean this fell far below the standards in all the other hotels we stayed. We went through all the channels on the T.V and the BBC, CNN were not available. For a language commonly used widely around the world, you would have thought there would have been at least one channel in English available. When asking the receptionist which way to the bar, she smiled and said ”the reception desk is the hotel bar ” and that they would get us drinks and we could drink them in the breakfast area, goes to say, we didn't bother. The Hotel's web site clearly shows a bar but we didn't see one and to sit in the breakfast area, no thanks. There is a sign in the hotel saying ”Enjoy the Fun” I'm afraid no fun to be had here. We did contact our travel company and they were very quick to get straight back with a message saying that they had contacted the hotel management and that they were aware of the issues. No one contacted us from the management rest of the three nights we stayed but we decided to not spoil the holiday and tough it out. This hotel was more like an up-market student hostel and clearly if you like living out of your case off the floor this is the place for you. Alan Carlisle

酒店位置極佳，只需要幾分鐘便可到火車站。酒店內的房間部分翻新，但我住的房間因是平價房，所以未有翻新。房間在地下，走廊牆上及地氈顏色深沉，光線又不足，感覺有點陰深；房內的傢俬破舊，地氈暗啞，毛也脫落，感覺不舒服，住了兩晚，第二天皮膚即出現過敏現象。 更因為是「平價」（酒店定義）房，所以不提供蒸餾水及水煲，更不會提供免費茶包、咖啡，最離譜的是水杯也沒有，刷牙用的膠杯第二天也收走！我們訂了五間房，我住的是「平價」房，但酒店在事前並沒有註明我住的房不提供上述物品，所以我只以為與其他四間房比較，我的房間面積較少而已。

This hotel has an excellent location, excellent breakfast and very nice, friendly and informative staff at the reception. Large and clean room. But..the beds weren't the most comfortable, the shower very small, and one elevator that was very slow and not always available.

We booked 2 nights with breakfast included. We were 2 adults with our 16 year-old daughter. The room is comfortable and it has all you need and won't break the bank. The staff was really helpful and suggested a great restaurant for the first night. The location is awesome, being right above the train station, it makes it perfect for a day trip to Cinque Terre. The room has a kettle, coffee and tea and some complimentary cookies. There is storage for your clothes (armoire). There is a common room with 2 loveseats and books to borrow/take/exchange. There is no elevator and we were on the 3rd floor. Not a big deal for us, but good to know in advance. Communication with the staff in advance was great and they were helpful to get us there easily. We also booked for breakfast. They give you a voucher for a coffee shop one street over for a coffee and croissant. The place and staff was great. The croissant was really tasty. I would recommend this hotel.

Affittacamere del Golfo was the perfect place for us to base ourselves for a few days exploring the Cinque Terre. We loved La Spezia and are glad we chose this city instead of staying in one of the actual Cinque Terre towns. Affittacamere is a ten minute walk to the La Spezia train station where frequent trains run frequently to the towns. Staying in La Spezia you have many great choices for shopping and dining without the crush of crowds and limited restaurant options. Our accommodations were well-appointed and comfortable: Affittacamere del Golfo is a collection of rooms with a lobby, in a typical older multi-family apartment building. Our room was well-maintained and clean, the bed was comfortable (and the bathroom was also clean and in full working order). There were no problems with water pressure or availability of hot water. Elisa, the proprietor, was friendly and helpful and always more than happy to get us situated and oriented. We asked for local dining off the beaten track and she directed us to a place near the water where we had amazing seafood every night. Affittacamere del Golfo is not fancy but it was exactly what we needed and we would stay there again without hesitation.

The rooms are very nice, but a bit small. However, there is no reception. If you are lucky you will see small plaque (see photo) near a large door which infers that you are in the right place. However, there is no clue as to how to get in. When I rang the number on the booking form I was informed that I had been sent a WhatApp message with instructions as to how to get in - not a lot of use when travelling all day on Italian trains with no wifi. To be fair, the chap did turn up within 5 mins or so and let us in, but not a great start.

Great location: close to train station, food store, laundry and a myriad of restaurants. A breeze to train it back and forth to Cinque Terra. A huge plus. DO NOT stay in the Cinque Terra touristy villages. Down side; the bar on the street below~ noise and cigarette smoke rises! TheMonterosso room is a direct hit from the bar. And, the room Frig was marginal at best. Yet, shower was great, maid service was amazing and the maid herself a sheer delight. The bed was a toughie to befriend as it was rather hard and took a night to grow accustomed to. The coffee maker and tea pot were a plus; however, only use bottled water. The “breakfast” was a far cry from breakfast and was basically packaged spongy rolls and Melba toast. Plenty of bakeries and breakfast bars nearby; go there. The price was a steal and yes, we would return and request one of the other Cinque Terra rooms. The proprietor was accessible and responsive. Stay here.
