Lock and Key Boutique Hotel - Duke Street

stayed there this weekend for one night. Hotel looks nice and bar is nicely done. cocktails good. Now the room.... ground floor very noisy as the doors to people rooms slam shut. The room smelt of damp ,guess thats why they leave the window open. The shower floods the floor of the bathroom. Such a slip hazard. i used the towels to mop it up. no toilet paper had to ask for it. really dusty blinds and broken. Dust on the bedside table. i told the staff about the flooding bathroom and they said they would have a meeting about it,but having read other reviews think that was a lie. carpet going down the hallway ripped and also a trip hazard. Staff lovely have to say. would we go back thats a big fat no. although great location.

Lovely little hotel in the heart of Liverpool. A great location and beautiful room. We had to check in late (after 10.30pm) but Meg on reception couldn’t have been more welcoming. The bed was sooo comfortable and everything was really high standard. Highly recommended.

Two night stay with a friend. Great central location. Walking distance to Liverpool One, Albert dock, Baltic triangle, cathedral etc. Only downside is that means it is loud at night on a weekend! Bar offers a happy hour Monday to Thursday which includes cocktails. Meg on the front desk was really helpful and got our bed switched from double to twin and sorted us some water because the delivery hadn’t arrived for the room. Room and bathroom was clean. There is a tablet to request food, extra towels, water etc but ours wasn’t functional so we called down from our mobile phone. Weirdly no body wash in the bathroom but there was soap and shampoo and conditioner.

A friend and I stayed here last weekend. Chap on reception was very welcoming and friendly, however, that’s where all the positivity ends. Our twin room was on the ground floor. Upon navigating the corridor I noticed that the hallway carpets were ripped and in tatters. Our room was small and absolutely reeked of damp. The bathroom was a let down, one roll of toilet paper and the wall holder was broken. No toilet brush. The decor in the bedroom was grubby and the wardrobe “alcove” was smattered with black damp patches. The room rate was £199 which for what greeted us is scandalous. We had booked breakfast upon arrival but when we saw the room promptly cancelled. Don’t stay here if you don’t want spend the next day washing every item of clothing you took as it stinks of damp. Avoid.

What a welcome, very personable and helpful. We arrived early to drop off luggage as we were in Liverpool for the Liverpool Legends match at Anfield. We had 3 rooms booked with friends. Luggage placed in our rooms ready for our early evening arrival back from the game. Our hosts were Luke and Megan and they were very helpful, warm and friendly. We were kindly upgraded from a Cosy double to a Stansard double, lovely decor and spacious rooms. Tea & coffee provided, safe available in room. Another plus for us, was the cosy boutique bar of the same name just through a door from reception. We were greeted by Lewis and his lovely colleague. A huge apology to the lovely young lady whose name I unfortunately cannot remember, but maybe I can blame the array of fabulous cocktails that I sampled! Both were very knowledgeable and took the time to chat in between their cocktail making! We all booked in for breakfast and the majority of us chose the full English. It all arrived freshly cooked to order. All cooked to perfection. All in all a very enjoyable stay, will definitely return. Thanks

This a fantastic boutique hotel. It's in a great location, in Liverpool City Centre. Not too far from Lime Street Station, or the local rail link . Excellent food - definitely eat here, it's great quality. The staff/Andrew are great, and go the extra mile.

Great experience in a great hotel with great people ! The staff is very friendly and helpful, the room I had was clean and nice, location is perfect, breakfast in the morning and cocktails in the evening were very good ! Hotel and bar/restaurant are highly recommended !

My husband saved hard to treat us to 2 nights at this hotel for our 20th wedding anniversary. This was a £200 per night (exc. breakfast) in February 2024. The first room we were allocated smelled badly of dampness. The room window was wide open when we arrived, and the radiator was not an adequate size for the room (and wasn't on). There were 2 electric heaters in the room. If you closed the window the smell of damp got worse. If you left it open, you couldn't heat the room. We suspect the dampness was caused by an overflowing shower tray. In ＜ 2mins the tray overflows so we suspected the floor under the tiles was saturated. The icing on the cake was the dirty bedding in this room. At this point we asked to be moved. Having been told the hotel was fully booked we had no option but to stay and were promised an upgraded room the following day. It was hardly an upgrade. The bathroom was a wet room but as you can see from the pictures, the water from the shower was able to escape through the gap between the bedroom carpet and bathroom tiles. There was a questionable stain on the bathroom tiles by the loo roll holder and there was wallpaper lifting off the walls in the room. Of the 4 windows in the room, only 1 had a functioning blind. The others were all broken with knotted cords. The air vent in the room was linked to the kitchen so until the chef finished prepping at 22:30 on the Saturday evening, we had to listen to the expel air in our room which was so loud we were unable to hear to the TV at maximum volume. Not ideal. Again, we complained. We were told that as we booked through a 3rd party, the hotel was unable to offer any direct compensation other than breakfast on one of the mornings. When we checked out, we explained that we would be taking it further through our booking website. We decided to hold off writing our review until we seen if the complaint was settled to our satisfaction. Sadly, the booking website has failed to make contact with the hotel despite numerous emails and calls. The booking website asked us to contact the hotel but again, they have failed to respond. My recommendation would be to avoid this hotel completely. I am sad to write this review, particularly as it’s an independent hotel, but to completely ignore both my and the 3rd party booking website’s attempts to make contact was the final straw.

I booked a smaller room than usual, and was worried the bed wouldn’t be big enough (I’m a pretty big guy, and I was sharing with my wife). It was bigger than it looked, and we had a great sleep at the end of a great night. The bar makes an amazing Tiramisu Espresso Martini, too.
