Private retreat on the edge of Loches (Beaulieu-les-Loches) We were warmly welcomed by Angelique …..with a bottle of Chinon wine and instructions on the use of the dishwasher, coffee maker etc. along with a tour of the spacious and solid gîte. We enjoyed our snacks on the terrace with laughter of young children from a nearby school. The adjoining larger gîte, was unoccupied so we had the entire enclosure to ourselves. Very quiet, very secure and very restful. The surrounding village and neighborhood are also quiet and pleasant to walk through. The gîte was clean with a large comfortable bed in a very quiet, dark bedroom downstairs. We did not use the upstairs bed. There was plenty of room to unpack the suitcase and put clothes away. The salon was comfortable but we did not use it since we were rarely there to watch tv. Most of our time was spent away from the gîte walking or sightseeing. The weather was nice enough to relax outside till late in the evening watching the birds flying around the cathedral steeple across the street. We found good multi-grain baguettes and pain aux raisins at the local bakery a few blocks away. And there’s a pleasant walk through fields to get to Loches And it was most enjoyable to walk there in the evening to watch the sunset on the town. Plenty of hot water and good water pressure in the showers. Wi-Fi was a little weak in places but that’s expected given the building is made of thick stone. Angelique was readily available at any time we called with questions. Parking was only a few steps from the front gate in a public space of approximately 20 cars in a quiet area used by the locals. We always felt safe there.
