What a fabulous place to stay, we thoroughly loved every moment and whilst we are not one for returning to places as the world is so big, we are going back next year! Not so good bits are, if you fly to Mombasa, it’s a 3 hour car journey to get to the hotel. I recommend flying to Malindi airport and then it’s a mere 15 mins to the hotel. The rooms are a little dated and overall quite dar. Some rooms don’t have sockets and lights by mirrors which is essential for women, no magnifying mirror in the bathroom and no iron and ironing board which for us was a shock but they do have an ironing service but the aircon is fabulous! The beds are extremely hard and for us we struggled with this though our housekeeper was super helpful and got us a mattress topper. The sea is full of sea grass and you definitely need sea shoes, the reef was disappointing but we have been spoilt. When on the public beach the locals do not leave you alone and whilst they have to earn money this can get quite wearing, you can’t even walk into the sea whiteout them trying to join you, in the end I was polite but firm and told them they were spoiling my holiday…I wasn’t troubled again! Shade for me wasn’t a problem but for my husband it was, no parasols were on the beach and only three by the pool. The hotel is one of three, each having their own pools and whilst we could visit there and eat in the restaurants they could not come to ours. There is a gorgeous beach restaurant with delicious food, I highly recommend the lobster. However, this is extra unless you have premium all inclusive. One day per week they have a gala dinner at the other hotel and the Al a carte restaurant is closed. Whilst the food was extremely varied and very good quality, for us and a few other guests it wasn’t quite our cup of tea. I do feel that on that day an option to eat either FOC or subsidised should be an option for the beach restaurant. Premium all inclusive was expensive and unless you are a big drinker, it really isn’t worth it. The rooms at night are extremely quiet and the housekeeping is wonderful and we were so lucky to have Michael who made our bed so beautiful every day! The food is Al a carte and for lunch and dinner and snacks is extremely varied, seasoned perfectly and of good quality. At lunch they give you an ice cold towel which is refreshing for your hands and face with the heat, they could do with bringing there round mid morning and mid afternoon when you are sunbathing as this would be refreshing. Breakfast was good and they made brilliant quality cooked food like eggs benedict, avocado and poached eggs on toast and nothing was too much trouble. If you wanted something specific, the chef was always willing to help. The fruit in the fruit salad though was very basic and limited and considering whist visiting markets fruits like grapefruit, plums, kiwi etc seemed in abundance we never saw any in the fruit salad. Phoebe and all of the waitresses and waiters were truly brilliant!
