The entire grounds, the pool area, the bar and cafe area are really nice. The place was very peaceful at the time we visited, 3rd week of December. People at reception and the cafe were great. Very helpful and friendly. I also liked the fact that the reception desk and even the cafe is staffed all day. In the cafe you can get a cafe leche for 2 euros, or a regular espresso for 1 euro, and pan tostada with pate or tomato (spanish style breakfast) for 2 euros. Apparently there is a 'happy hour' from 5 to 9 pm as well although it's hard to notice it with the sign sitting flat on the counter top. It would be nice if they would stock the cafe with more food choices. Some pizzas in the evening or something similar would be nice. The pool was unheated so, too cold for me. And even the whirlpool was unheated, which is a bit surprising. But all very clean, and pleasant. The Duquesa port area, with its scenic views of the port. There is a good selection of places to eat here if you don't mind paying close to UK prices. I also liked the nearby beach town of Sabanillas. Good tapas there, and a nice little Spanish cafe as well. There is even a burger king, in case you are hungry for something like that. There are also a couple of little cafe/bars in the Castillo area. There are two supermarkets about a 10-15 minute walk down and 15 minute walk up. The supermarkets are Dia and Eroski. Both have comparable prices. There is a small shop on site but there is not much there you'd really need. And the sizes of items they sell are not practical. You are better off going to the supermarkets at the bottom of the hill. They should really reevaluate their shop offerings. You would be well advised to have a car to come here. You may be able to get by without a car, provided you have very little baggage and are capable of walking 20 minutes up to the hotel from the bus stop. There are 6-8 busses a day from Estepona to La Linea. They leave a bus stop right next to the pedestian overpass (just down the road from the supermarkets) in the direction of Duquesa port. You can look up the scedule. It is bus 240 on Avanca. There is an underground parking garage which is handy, but take care hen entering and exiting. The garage door remains somewhat ajar even when fully open and it would be easy to accidentally brush up against it when driving past if you are not careful. A couple of negatives: When we arrived we were offered a choice of either an apartment with oven not working or one with dishwasher not working. This seemed odd as there are so many apartments on site. However we chose one with dishwaher not working and it was fine. Also - not sure about the other apartments but the lighting in our apt needed upgrading. Some of the rooms have energy saving flourscent style lighting, which is not as good as modern LED with balanced hue.
