We stayed at Sevilla Palace for 10 days in March, and had a wonderful stay. This hotel is ideally located on the Paseo de la Reforma, one of the main avenues of Mexico City. It is a few blocks walk to the nearest Metro station, and the public bus stop is almost directly in front of the hotel. Seniors note: regardless of your nationality if you are a senior ( ” adultos mayores”) you can ride the Metro and public buses for free. You are literally waved on! Interestingly, some of the staff at the hotel were not aware of this municipal benefit for its older guests! And the busses are modern, and very comfortable double decker's. There are two restaurants on site, one open all day for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and one, very elegant, open only weekdays for breakfast and lunch. Both serve excellent food, at reasonable prices, and the service is universally great. Although not the newest of hotels, it has an elegant atmosphere. Rooms are large and fully equipped. Upper floors have a city view, and there is a delightful rooftop swimming pool, with great views of the city. Staff at reception and at the concierge desk were unfailingly helpful, especially in ordering a cab. ”Zocolo”, the old center of the city, is a 10 minute cab ride, for about 12$ US. However, if you have enough Spanish, you can simply hail a cab yourself and perhaps negotiate a lower rate. Speaking of Spanish, it should be noted that this hotel appears to be very popular with Spanish speaking guests. Staff told us that although they have international guests ( many from the US, Canada and Europe), perhaps 75% of their guests are from Mexico or other Spanish speaking countries. Staff at reception are mostly bi-lingual, but many others ( wait staff, housekeeping, help desk personnel) speak only Spanish. So, knowing at least some Spanish will make your stay there that much easier, and good practice! The hotel is also located just around the block from La Plaza de Revolution, with its Tower of the Republic. And a wonderful lower level national museum....but everything is in Spanish. The airport and the regional bus stations are about 25 minutes away, and we took a great, comfortable, well outfitted bus (ETN) from MC to San Miguel de Allende, a trip we'd recommend. Beautiful Spanish colonial city! From the glass-enclosed elevators, to the almost elegant lounge ares and dining room, to city views, to location, to reasonable rates and helpful staff, Sevilla Palace is a wonderful choice. We would highly recommend this hotel, and would stay there again, without a doubt. You'll find an unhurried, old world charm.
