Hotel berhampiran Karnevalsmuseum, Monchengladbach

We wanted to find a cheap stay at a hotel in Mönchengladbach. Normally mcdreams is the choice…sub 50€ with free parking. This is quite basic and no frills 3 star accommodation. But in Germany 3 stars means a lot…even when basic. It’s clean, great beds, bathroom … great price quality. While looking I got a special offer for this hotel on **********. 50€ per room per night. This hotel has what I call the trifecta. Great price, free parking and free breakfast. But it was so so much better thans expected. To be honest the pictures on the website didn’t do this hotel any justice at all. We almost cancelled because it looks dated and with shabby bathroom. Let’s do the bad first. The floor in the room…looks very shiny, plasticky. But it was meticulously clean and walking on it is beer than on the carpets that just doesn’t feel clean enough in older hotels. The bathroom I must say feel and looks old. That’s due to the white tiles and bathtub I guess. But bathroom was meticulously clean and all in working order. The bath is really not so functional, quite high. So elderly or less flexible persons must be careful when getting in or out from bath. But great if you have a baby or kids I guess. In our room the shower didn’t have a thermostat and the water temperature moved around a bit…from coldish to too hot…and everything in between. That’s a negative, but water pressure was good. But the rest was much much better then expected. First of all free parking underneath the hotel. But I think the street is free parking too. Location is in upper residential area so feels really safe in the street. Weirdly you can enter the hotel via the garage…but the door doesn’t open from the outside. Also no chance to call reception topen it. This means when you arrive you need to walk outside on quite a steep climb to enter hotel at reception. The rooms as I mentioned was very clean and quite spacious. There is a good working TV. Beds are great. Sadly two singles, but at 90cm that’s a good width. You get two pillows and there is plenty of plugs to use. For the summer..unfortunately no AC. What really sets this place apart is the amenities provided. It shames 4/5 star hotels. From toothbrushes, shaving kit, toilet wet wipes, to sewing and even a shoeshine kit.wow. The best I saved the best for last. The free breakfast. We got a full German breakfast. The downside it was at the nearby elisenhof hotel. The good thing….It was top quality breakfast. In 5 star hotels I have had breakfast with more choice, but it was not so tasty or of such quality. Don’t get me wrong. It had everything.bacon. Sausage, 2 types scrambled egg, salmon, and the usual continental spread. The breads was great and cold cuts with local specialty always good. The juice bar was tops with fresh squeezed OJ machine. A very satisfying start of the day. I cant recommend this place enough. The price quality king..even if without the extra discount.

La struttura è nuova e ben curata. Il servizio del personale è gentile e professionale. La colazione è davvero ottima, c'è tanta scelta e tutto scelto con cura e estrema attenzione al cliente. Era la prima volta che soggiornavo in questa struttura e mi è stato regalata una sistemazione di benvenuto oltre le mie aspettative con una camera più grande rispetto la media, super spaziosa e provvista di ogni confort. Anche se leggermente lontano dall'aereoporto, la struttura è a una 15 di minuti dal centro di Burgplatz che consiglio di andare a visitare specialmente nel periodo di Natale con un piccolo mercatino tipico.

L'hôtel est extrêmement excentré. Cela ne semblait pas être un problème à la réservation dans la mesure où l'hôtel est supposé être plutôt bien desservi par les transports. Cependant, l'hôtel déclare être à deux minutes du métro. Cette station est en effet présente, mais est la dérivation d'une ligne avoisinante. La station est fermée le soir et le dimanche et est désservie une fois toute les 30 minutes. Une autre station à 7 minutes de marche à pied dans un quartier d'affaire et désert le soir (et donc pas très sécurisant) s'impose donc la plupart du temps, et l'hôtel omet cette information de son site. De plus, cette autre station n'est désservie que toutes les 20 minutes. Comptez donc au moins une demi-heure pour rejoindre le centre-ville, ce qui réduit toute possibilité de repasser à l'hôtel pour se changer avant d'aller dîner par exemple. L'accueil est plutôt amical, mais la réceptionniste qui était présente pendant la quasi-totalité de mon séjour semblait de moins en moins sympathique lorsqu'on avait besoin d'elle. Par exemple, je ne parvenais pas à faire fonctionner le coffre-fort et visiblement elle non plus. Aucun mode d'emploi n'était mis à la disposition des clients ni du personnel semble-t-il. Une atre personne est venue voir si elle pouvait faire quelque chose et devait revenir vers moi, mais cela n'a jamais été le cas. J'ai donc dû me débrouiller moi-même. En attendant de trouver une solution le 2ème jour, j'ai dû confier certains de mes effets personnels à la réception afin qu'ils soient entreposés dans le coffre fort central. En raison de clients ayant fumé dans leur chambre d'après les membres du personnel de l'hôtel, le signal d'alarme à été automatiquement activé pendant la première nuit, et nous avons tous dû être évacués, dans la rue, avec une température de 10°C. Je dois dire que j'ai été impressionné par la réactivité du personnel qui à distribué des couvertures aux enfants et qui s'est montré à l'écoute des interrogations des clients en revenant dans l'hôtel. J'ajoute qu'ils semblait bien connaître et appliquer à la lettre un plan d'urgence. Le petit déjeuner était de belle qualité.

I had to stay here durring a fair in Dusselsdorf. After a 40 minutes drive I arrived in a place that was absolutely beautiful. The buildings and its gardens are absolutely beautiful. I had a very large and spotless clean room. The lobby and the restaurant are very cosy, and breakfast very good. At the end was was looking like a very stressful trip ended being relaxing and agreeable.

Gestern zu zweit im Restaurant. Zuerst wird Brot und Butter gereicht. Die (gesalzene) Butter schmeckt leicht salzig und - leicht ranzig. Meine Begleitung bestätigt, dass die Butter einen „Stich“ habe. Leise bitte ich an der Küche um neue Butter. Wenige Minuten später erscheint eine weibliche Servicekraft - mit leeren Händen: „Der Koch hat probiert. Er sagt, die Butter ist nicht ranzig, sie ist gesalzen.“ Für einen Moment sprachlos, starre ich die Bedienung an, eine Frau am Nebentisch dreht sich kopfschüttelnd um. Dann muss ich tatsächlich ein weiteres Mal um neue Butter bitten. „Gesetzt den Fall, ich hätte mich geirrt - was nicht der Fall ist - würden Sie mir dann wohl bitte nichtsdestotrotz ein neues Stückchen Butter bringen??“ Die erbettelte „neue“ Butter wurde uns dann von einer weiteren Servicekraft überreicht. Danke auch … Das weitere Essen war übrigens gut, nicht sehr gut, aber gut. Gottlob gibt es genügend Restaurants im Umfeld, wo der Gast noch König ist.

Great location, 3 minutes walk to the main train station. Was not very cleaned, found some hair on the bed when I checked in. But not that important. Internet is not so fast.

We made this a stopover in our way to the Harz Mountains and it was a total treat - relaxed elegance. Would have liked to have stayed longer to explore the gardens next door and the ceramic museum. Comfortable bed, good breakfast, pretty terrace and picturesque moat. Only downside was they had fully booked the restaurant so we had to go elsewhere but this turned out to be a good move! I stayed at Theaterhotel Venlo during Carnival for one night. The room was good, the indoor parking average (a bit narrow and expensive (15,00 EUR for 24 hours)). But the breakfast service was very weak! The personnel - three ladies - did not care pretty much about the buffet (bread rolls and scrumbled eggs were empty) but the guest has to ask to fill it up although there were many guests in the breakfast room. Besides you have to go to breakfast bar to ask for hot tea, coffee etc. as nobody from the personnel felt responsible to go to the guest's table to ask whether hot tea, coffee etc. is wished. The same with dirty plates on tables. Nobody of personnel cleaned it up. For 100,00 EUR for one night including breakfast - single occupancy - in such medium-sized city of Venlo I can expect proactive and attentive guest service! Probably I do not recommend Theaterhotel Venlo. P.S.: In the breakfast room it is very drafty as it there isn't any doors and it is part of the huge entrance lobby of theater of Venlo. So not very cozy there!
